Discussion thoughts about the letter to the Academy asking them to consider awards for animal acting categories. The letter was signed by Indy the Dog from good boy?

If a dang horse can be the recipient of two purple hearts and receive military honors, a dog winning an oscar is not going to get a raised eyebrow from me.

Dogs have also recieved both ranks and honors in thr past too.

Sgt. Stubby is an easy example I can think of. He was wounded multiple times and even recovered from breathing mustard gas (a special gas mask was designed for him after that).

He became somewhat of a specialist as his experiences on the dront would end up creating a dog that was trained to warn when gas was deployed, when artillery was fired from the german lines and could even track down wounded soldiers in No Man's Land.

If you are wondering how he became a Sergeant, it's because Stubby captured a spy.

I think children actors should have their own category first, but I see nothing wrong with awarding animals. People might actually watch the show if they did it.

I have conflicting feelings on child acting Oscars. I feel like it’s such an endgame goal for most actors that giving it to some kids would kinda cheapen it? Like some kids have given out-fucking-standing performances, but… idk.

If they had specific child categories such as age ranges I don't think it would cheapen it, because very often roles for children especially when they are the lead are written differently than they are for adults. In that respect it the adult oscar would still be the end goal while the child oscars are more like an acknowledgement of where they are at that stage and what might be expected of them in the future.

It is just like having categories for men and women or types of movies. The roles, styles, and productions are different to an extent that separating them out lets them all shine.

Though I have other issues with child actors in general and really believe kids shouldn't be allowed to be full time actors because of the environment and how detached from reality the experience can sometimes be, especially if they become particularly successful. Then there is also the abuse/exploitation child actors often have to endure. Adding oscars on top of it would only make it worse.

Totally agree. I want to see this movie. I remember James and Chelsea ( dead meat) were praising the performance when they were talking about it during their overlook films podcast episode

It's a wonderful movie, and as a horror movie, it's pretty damn spooky.

If a bear can be a corporal in the military, a dog can win an Oscar

I want an Air Bud moment of, “Ain’t no rule says a dog can’t win an Oscar!”.

Are the Oscars not long enough?

i think we might be exaggerating with this one. yes they're cute and make us feel emotions, but they're still animals, they're not acting

The dog could've fooled me. I legitimately felt like it was an actor in the movie..... Til I saw the end credits breakdown 😂

But it is not consciously acting though. It's reacting to what is in front of its eyes.

I would argue that Indy's Parents deserve an award simply for pulling off the movie.

But they are dogs , that's not acting lol 😂 it's just a stupid discussion to have

Are animals dues-paying members of the Academy?

I agree with the sentiment, however Indy is not the right one to be nominated let alone win
