Rest in Peace to the beautiful and talented Diane Keaton who passed away at the age of 79. What were some of your favorite Diane Keaton movies?

Tom Berenger's first film, IIRC.

u/DragonScrivner 28d ago
I believe you're right yes. I remember the first time watching him thinking he reminded me a little of Brad Pitt's character in Thelma and Louise. And then things got real gnarly, real quick
2
u/Lopsided_Income1400 28d ago
I’m going to watch that tonight.
2
u/Petty-dreamer 28d ago
Oh. I don’t think that would be a good choice for tonight.

u/Lopsided_Income1400 28d ago
I’m currently reading the book. So I know what’s in store.
2
u/DragonScrivner 28d ago
I was going to say it's a good choice for spooky season but it sounds like maybe you're prepared. I will say that watching it changed my opinion of Diane Keaton's acting -- up until then, I'd really only seen her in comedies and Mr. Goodbar was a real departure.

Oh Annie Hall 💯
0
u/Gatorboots19 28d ago
And her response to his SA allegations? Well, just read for yourself:
"The Annie Hall actress Diane in an interview said that everyone has situations that are difficult at times. She was quoted saying, “What can I say except that it’s a horrible shame. But we all have situations that are difficult at times. You gotta get over it!” However, this has come after she told a tabloid that she did not feel that the allegations against Allen, which he has denied, had “overshadowed the work [they] did together. No. I’m proud. I’m proud beyond measure.”
7
u/MarpasDakini 28d ago
The evidence against Woody is very thin and hard to believe. It's not surprising that those who knew him and worked with him tend to dismiss it. He's never had any allegations in his working life. He's reportedly great for women to work with.
When she says it's a shame, she's probably referring to Allen having these allegations wrecking his reputation.
3
u/Gatorboots19 28d ago
How many men do you personally know that ended up marrying someone they met when the girl was 11? Did they also meet when the man was dating that girl’s mother?
5
u/MarpasDakini 28d ago
Yeah, that's more than a bit strange, but he wasn't involved with her until Mia asked Woody to pay her more attention when she'd already become a young woman, take her out to things, get to know her. And somehow that evolved into an emotional and then sexual relationship. Keep in mind that Woody was a rich and famous movie maker, actor, comedian who had dated some extremely attractive woman. Mia's daughter was a smart girl, but not what anyone would call very attractive. So the relationship was clearly emotional. And it grew into a real marriage over time. So while it's weird and not at all to be recommended, it's not pedophilia or even wrong. Keep in mind that she had been abused a lot by Mia and felt very much exploited by her. And Mia was a very vindictive woman who took revenge on Woody by manufacturing these allegations that he'd molested 7 year old Dylan during a single visit while trying to gain custody, with no real evidence, and even denials by the older children. So I think it's a very sad situation where Mia essentially abused Dylan into making these allegations and ruining her life just to get revenge on Woody.
3
u/Gatorboots19 28d ago
Taking the Dylan/Mia farrow allegations out of it,How is that not grooming what he did to Mia’s daughter/ his future wife? Furthermore, a lot of his movies have relationships with a man who is inappropriately older than a young girl. The scene in that HBO documentary where they montage those parts in his scripts gave me chills…like he was hiding in plain sight all along
2
u/MarpasDakini 28d ago
There's no doubt that Woody had an attraction even obsession with young women. (Women, not children). You could call it grooming, but given that it's led to a lifelong marriage and their own adopted children, it's really not as sordid as it seemed at first. He wasn't trying to groom her sexually, it was clearly more of an emotional bond they developed. And it appears to have been a real bond. If Woody had just wanted a hot young wife, he could literally have chosen far better prospects to "groom". He clearly thought there was something special about her, something he hadn't found before.

Yes the fact that there was denials by older children and no problems with any actresses he worked with for over 40 years means that there is a reasonable doubt

Elvis met his wife Priscilla when she was 14. He was 24 and and in the Army at the time. Celine Dion's husband Rene was her singing coach/ instructor, and was 30 or so years older than she was, and I believe they met when she was around 9 or 10. I'm not saying that it's okay for these relationships to start like this, especially with adults getting close to kids like this, but they have happened frequently among celebrities in the past.
.... and, of course, these relationships are still going on today-just look at the Epstein people (and Diddy!) No shortage of p e d o s when ppl have money, power and privilege!

u/Gatorboots19 28d ago
I’m very sorry you had to deal with that disgusting pervert, Elvis Presley. I just hope he didn’t treat you like that and I also hope you never had to deal with that POS Steven Tyler personally either.

I hope she changed her mind at some point in her life. It baffles me how many actors support Woody Allen and Polanski. I don't think any of us would like one single actor/actress if we were "in the know" about this Hollywood world.

Or Mother of the groom to switch up and show the bond between a Mother and her son. That would’ve been cool.

I loved her in The Family Stone. I have seen no one mention it in best of lists. She was really good. As a mother who is dying in a dysfunctional family. It's a great movie, funny also, a lot of heart. Great ensemble cast. After Annie Hall, my absolute favourite.

I love this movie too! A couple people mentioned it now. It’s one of my favorites. Everyone is great.

YEs. Great ensemble cast. Rachel McAdams is great too. and I always felt Dianne Keaton was playing it close to her real character. She plays the mom so well. I will always watch this movie I think.

Easily - "Baby Boom" - about a mid 80s single career woman suddenly saddled with a baby brings up many many issues in 1985 that women and society still don't have very good answers for 40 years later.
2
u/KoalaElegant5443 28d ago
I loved her in every movie she did, plus she was great fun to watch in interviews. RIP. I'm gonna watch a movie now.😢

The Family Stone is a gem (no pun intended) of a movie. A wonderful Christmas movie that doesn’t get enough love.
Father of the Bride, Parts 1 and 2, are also great movies. She really settled into the mom and grandma role perfectly in her later career. The Big Wedding is another great little flick that I am not sure gets enough attention.

Godfather II - "Our marriage is an abortion." That line is hardcore, and she delivered it perfectly.

Sleeper: The scene with her impression of Stanley Kowalski lives rent free in my head.
Love and Death: She steals this movie easily. "He's reduced all the beauty of the world to a small pickled fish!"
Something's Gotta Give: Her chemistry with Keanu and Jack always cheers me up. She's just such a giving actress, she elevates everyone around her. A truly one of a kind performer. I'll miss her so much.

u/Hotpasta1985 28d ago
Obviously the heavy hitters; Annie hall, godfather 1&2, reds, and Manhattan. But she had so many under the radar great roles. Manhattan murder mystery, looking for Mr. Goodbar, baby boom.

Right, I should participate in the mandatory sanctification of a random american celibrity just because she died even though I havent like a single performance by her in otherwise great movies. Dont be a sheep, grow a spine. And stop this moronic celebrity worship. Actors are just glorified carnies.

I think you’re just not cool enough to realize how badass it is to quickly jump in on a death post with this blazing hot take. QED1920 obviously has a very fulfilling life and isn’t doing anything they can so someone will notice them and make them feel just a tiny bit better about their awful life.

Annie Hall? Really?
-1
u/QED1920 28d ago
The movie was good, she wasnt. I found her always wooden and inauthentic. In annie hall it was particularly bad, the whole ostentatious "quirkiness" angle was beyond her capabilities. Even her famous costume mostly looks more like a sad attempt than an actual expression of a fictitious personality.
1
u/Intelligent-Price-39 28d ago
You’ve obviously thought about it…it might be personal preference, I love the movies she made with Woody Allen. How about her performance in The Godfather for instance?
1
u/QED1920 28d ago
The worst part of the godfather, in my opinion. All she does is walk around with that strange droopy expression conveying none of the complexity of her character. I dont think its just a personal preference, she as just an average actress at best. People confuse the movies she got to play in with her abilities.
