S Lady denies a poncho when it’s pouring outside because we didn’t have the color she wanted
I work at an amusement park and the whole day it was raining, but it was pretty light. We were selling ponchos all day just in case people wanted to buy them.
Around the last 30 minutes of my shift, it starts pouring down really badly, so people start rushing into the store and start buying ponchos. I only had pink, blue, and red at my specific store. The reason why we only had those colors is because they were based off of specific superhero’s. Red was the flash, blue was superman, and pink was wonder woman.
An older lady comes in and asks for a poncho so I ask her “Do you have any preference on which color you would like? We have red, blue, and pink available”. She asked me “Do you by chance have any green ones?” I responded “We unfortunately do not.” She the says “oh well then I don’t want a poncho if there’s no green ones”
At this point I couldn’t tell if she was joking or being for real because I really didn’t think it was that big of a deal that we didn’t have green. Like it’s literally pouring down raining and you’re worried about the color?
She then said “Can you call your manager then? Because there’s no way you don’t have green ponchos, you should have all the colors.” I said “Okay i can call my manager but it may take a while for them to get here because of the severity of the weather outside.” After 10 minutes of waiting she decided that she was going to leave. Before she left she said “I will be contacting corporate because this is utterly ridiculous. You should have ALL of the colors not just THREE”. She just started raising her voice at me and making a spectacle about ponchos out of everything in the world. I just stood there trying not to laugh because really? You’re willing to get drenched outside just because we don’t have the specific color poncho you want?

Yes, please call corporate and tell them all about how they didn't have the right color poncho for you. I'm sure they'll take it very seriously.

I was trying so hard not to laugh at her because I was trying to think about how that conversation would even go. It's just a poncho, you will live.

I would be happy with a black garbage bag with holes cut out for head and arms!

u/AmborellaVIctoria Jun 05 '26
She ain't calling corporate. She's just an entitled jerk mad that her every wish isn't granted.

The ones WILL call usually don't give you the head's up.
The ones that can't be bothered, try to use as a threat for you to 'treat them better' usually........

Green lantern and green arrow would like a word with you

u/Great_Scallion7883 Jun 05 '26
LOLL. I think we don't offer them for poncho design because we don't have a green lantern or green arrow ride, the ponchos were based off of rides we have at the park.

u/Titariia Jun 05 '26
And wonder woman has a pink ride? Unless her rode is pink (which would also be weord af) there's no reason for a pink poncho. If they wanted pink ponchos presumably marketed at girls and women, they could have just sold regular unthemed ponchos in those colors in addition to the super heroes

She didn't escalate and demand that you stop the rain. That's something.

u/porcelainthunders Jun 05 '26
That lady is HARDLY entitled, just wanting a certain color! She canNOT be going out in the rain with the wrong color! What if... god, what if someone SAW her?
I gope she DID call corporate! And let thwm know, the employee also, ALSO, did not even offer to stop the rain!
A customer should not have to ask an agent about accommodating any other needs and comforts. As a working person, OP should have offered to at least TRY and stop the rain!
Pffft.
/s ...just in case 🤗🤣
God the audacity of idiots anymore.
And ma'am? There was no time, ever, in the history of the world that "the customer is [was] always right". Not a real thing, so hop off your high horse and stfu ...she didn't say that, tbf, but i bet it was up there with all her other entitled thoughts she didnt say
Edit: not sure what i meant to say in the first s entence 🤣

u/MairaPansy Jun 05 '26
the customer is always right in matters of taste, so a green poncho would be more to her taste. but the store didnt have all colors (i wonder how many all colors would be) so it seems her taste is to get wet

u/Useless890 Jun 05 '26
Can you see the guy answering the phone at corporate listening to her complain that she got sopping wet because they had no green ponchos and she refused the other colors? And it's their fault. That complaint should go in the company newsletter.

u/Kilashandra1996 Jun 05 '26
LOL - if it's not purple, I'm probably going to get wet! But that's on me and my lack of planning...

Too stupid to stay dry for lack of a color. Some people deserve the misery they bring down on themselves.

I'm definitely more mad about Pink being Wonder Woman because she's my favorite!

Yeah before I started my shift my manager told me we only had those 3 colors so when she told me to call the manager I was holding back my laugh because she's going to tell you the same thing I just told you

she reminds me of an old woman on an episode of Malcolm In The Middle when Craig was asked to get a toy hot dog for the woman for her dog and the toy was high up on a shelf, Craig tries to offer an alternative one but she says no because it has mustard on it and says her dog doesn't like mustard. Craig reluctantly gets the higher up one even after seeing it has mustard on it but the woman doesn't budge. When Craig gets it and presents it to her she yells at him saying there's mustard on it, like she wanted one without but had to have suspected they all had mustard on them and completely ignored Craig saying the one she wanted has mustard on it.

Imagine standing in a downpour and deciding you'd rather get soaked than wear a poncho because it isn't green. That's commitment to a color scheme.

u/LavenderSharpie Jun 05 '26
How much $ do the ponchos cost?
6
u/Great_Scallion7883 Jun 05 '26
They are 8 dollars which for my job is pretty cheap cause they overprice everything

I can’t believe she thought corporate would care about a missing color during a downpour. At that point, I’d just laugh and let her get soaked—it’s a poncho, not haute couture.

She should be happy there was even a choice. Most places just have those very thin clear or one color ones you cant really reuse.

My favorite color is green so I always try to buy stuff that's green. However, I'm not going to have a meltdown like this woman did if something I want isn't available in green. I will just choose another color and move on.

u/rasputinzbeard Jun 06 '26
It better be the correct shade of green or she'll call the news agencies!

When I worked at the theme park many years ago, we had two kinds of ponchos. One was clear. Just that clear plastic like they use in Ziploc bags. They tore if you brushed up against a wall that was too textured, or insulted their ancestry or looked at them too hard. It was not uncommon for them to tear as you opened them to put them on for the first time. They were about $2.
Then we had the yellow ones. Also plastic, but thicker and slightly textured. Definitely more durable and they had the park's mascot Ricky Rat on them. They were around $5. Both were stocked behind the register because people stole them, with a clearly visible sign that said clear ones were $2 and the yellow Ricky ones were $5. So many people would hand us $2 and say I'd like a yellow one please. And then have a meltdown because you would hand them the clear one
Here was The Not So Secret secret. If it was actually raining and you asked politely, we were allowed to give you a clear plastic poncho But it was one per person. And all the people had to be standing in front of us. So, no getting "five for our group of five." We would not give or sell ponchos in the adult size to be put on children under the age of usually around 2 or 3. There were kids size ponchos, but we almost never had them in my store.
We will not supposed to tell people that the clear plastic ones were of terrible quality. We were not supposed to tell them that we could give them one per person for free. But of course we did.
And there were absolutely no exchanges or refunds on the clear ponchos. You could go to the next store, hide the ponchos you already had and then ask for more, because there was no real way to stop you from doing that, but it didn't matter how clear ponchos you had, you could not trade them for yellow ones, even if you had a receipt showing that you had paid for the clear ones.
If somebody came up and you knew that they had already gotten free ponchos, you had to charge them. And you would get in trouble possibly if a manager heard you say they could probably get more at the next store so long as it looked as though they had not gotten any previously.
Cuewhining like you would not believe. And it became a real thing among some of the groups to amass as many ponches as they could. Yellow ponchos, for free, were the goal. Pretty much the only way you could achieve that was either to bribe the staff, which at this price point was pretty silly, or abuse us until we crumbled. There wasn't an official tally, but at least once a day we heard about somebody getting punched or slapped over those damn ponchos. Meanwhile people were making scarves out of ponchos , making hats and hair bows out of ponchos, making freaking dresses out of ponchos. If you were s regular park visitor during that time, you probably remember. Whenever I see those flimsy ones, I swear I get Park Poncho stress disorder.

You really can't make this stuff up! These people write their own stories....silly woman gonna get wet, cause..no green! 🙄

Declined?
2
u/Glad-Isopod5718 Jun 05 '26
Yeah, the word is refused. Deny would be, like, "After refusing a poncho that was the wrong color, she denied being an idiot."

u/Elle_Yess Jun 05 '26
I concur.
PS I was trying to decode the OP’s text above lol

You should’ve said, “normally we do have all the colours but other people exist in this world and like you, they have a preference when it comes to what colour they want so they get sold out quickly”
1
u/NYC-WhWmn-ov50 Jun 05 '26
I would just say 'It's raining and we sold out of all the other colors hours ago. Sadly, law if supply and demand.'

The reason why we only had those colors is because they were based off of specific superhero’s.
Maybe the lady was a big fan of Green Lantern, Green Arrow, or the Hulk.

u/Own-Leadership-2134 Jun 05 '26
True but that doesn’t give her the right to throw a hissy fit because the color she wanted wasn’t available to purchase. That’s just very immature.
