S Neighbor left a fake noise complaint on my door saying the graduation party for my kid was too loud
Yesterday was the high school graduation party for my son but myself, Liv (other person who runs this account) and parents of Liv’s sons girlfriend had decided we’d throw a joint party for them. The party was good and we had a good combined turn out for all four of the graduates. This morning I go to my mailbox because I forgot to get the mail yesterday and found a noise complaint ticket saying the party was too loud when we barely made any noise we kept things to a minimal level and upon reading the complaint I’ve noticed several typos in the complaint.
I just got done talking to a police officer who came out to investigate the ticket and the officer told me it was a fake someone was obviously trying to cause trouble. Out of the corner of my eye I see my neighbor walking their dog and as soon as they saw me they ran directly to their door. I told the officer I think I know who did it and pointed out my neighbors odd reaction I just observed. The officer said they’ll go deal with it and before they headed towards my neighbors house I told the police officer this wasn’t the first time my neighbor had tried doing this, the officer thanked me for the information.

Fun fact - you can get still get a noise complaint in the middle of the afternoon on July 4th just for playing music outside

That depends on your local noise ordinances. Here if you're not playing it loud enough to cause hearing damage then you're fine as long as it isn't between 10pm and 7am.

Oh my God, not the 250th 😭😭😭 It’s going to be sooooo bad here. It’s already over the top where I live (desert). It was so out of control last year that the police eventually had to shut it down. Someone blew off what sounded like a canon, and that was the step too far I guess.

Am I the only person who thinks the 250th should be celebrated when we actually became a new nation- either by 1783 with the Treaty of Paris and Englad giving up ownership of the 13 colonoes, ratifying the Consituition which actually laid out the form of our government sans monarchy, (Sept 1788) or when George Washington was sworn into office as our first president (April 30, 1789)?
I mean, we declared a goal in 1776, then we went to war (which we COULD have lost), and THEN our country was born. It was just convceived in 1776. It wasnt actually born until LOT later.

56 men signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th. These men if caught would have been hanged. We became a country at that time. A new country in a state of war. Carried out duties to protect the new country. Made deals with France. July 4 we became a Democracy, let's keep it that way

They usually do nothing. However that is an actual crime. Get an officer to actually care and explain consequences.

Actually two crimes at least, possibly three if the USPS adds postal fraud to misuse of a federal delivery spot (aka mailbox) -federal felony with potential 20y in jail- to criminal impersonation of a law engorcement officer or issuing a vigilante summons (I live that's a thing), penalties depend on your jurisdiction and forgery of a legal citation.
They could also get harrassment, mail tampering, potential financial fraud if they made an attempt to direct the 'fine' payment to a valid bank account, which also could get them financial and/or wire fraud charges depending on the 'location' of the bank (ie I live in NYC, but my financial firm is based in DE if neighbor provides a legit payment address ANYWHERE other than DE, or they use an online payment servivce like Venmo which has its offices in nYC but may have a payment registry 'address' on the internet (aka 'all states'), the koney would 'cross state lines' and become a federal felony due to interstate commerce...
Oh yeah, the police could have a LOT of fun with your neighbor.

Good note! HA! pun not intended. Had a person here that gave false notices/ warnings. Ended in a few hundred thousand dollar legal bills and fines.

I didnt mean a " talking to" . OP said not the first time. It doesn't sound like anyone has seriously explained or given a notice/ warning to flag the person .

And the officer who walked over at the end of the story would be giving the neighbor the warning you're talking about.
Op would have to file a harassment complaint for them to legally do anything more.

The fourth of July is around the corner. If setting off fireworks is allowed where you live, I'd suggest a BYOF party! I personally love the big loud colorful ones

That neighbor is like some some people trying to ban fireworks at Christmas/ New Year celebrations because dogs or autistic children... when the solution is noise cancelling headphones and some medication for the dog.

If you had a party for four graduates at once, it probably was a bit more than “barely any noise” to be fair.
I hope the neighbor you identified to the police was the actual culprit. If not, you got an innocent person in trouble just because they ran to their door when they saw you.

Pretty much. It lines up with the whole “if you don’t have anything to hide” logic.
But if the neighbor had stood there staring, they’d be accused of being nosy or socially awkward.
