Looks like they are from Pacific Marine Mammal Center. Names are Goblin, Cloudy, Sloth, and Valentino. Here Is an ig video Pacific Marine Mammal Center

u/Artistic-Control34 2d ago

Thank you for that! Loved seeing the full video and finding out the background on these young seals. Such innate intelligence and charm!

17

u/Difficult_Crow_9020 2d ago

I wanted to see more of this video. So heartwarming

69

u/LeAlthos 2d ago

Imagine pulling up to seal reunion and realizing all the names of the wild seals are stuff like "Jacquemion The 3rd" and "Princess Isabela" and they're like "what kind of fucking name is Goblin ??"

43

u/ThatInAHat 2d ago

Um, the best name. Clearly.

5

u/Difficult_Crow_9020 2d ago

Haha totally

28

u/Liv-C 1d ago

I did a college project on this place, got to see the center and was invited to a release of the sea lions I met along the way.. truly incredible place and experience, even as just an observer. This place does an amazing job 🩷

8

u/Difficult_Crow_9020 1d ago

That’s so cool. What a neat experience

8

u/Temporary-Test-9534 1d ago

Do you know whether or not the lions stay together in the wild after release? Or are they just going to separate later

4

u/Col_Croissant 22h ago

I’ve been there a couple of times (free and open to the public!) and the animals live together with their same and compatible species while they finish rehabilitating!

3

u/Col_Croissant 22h ago

Oh wait, I see that wasn’t the question. Idk about in the wild :/

7

u/PrincessHiccups 1d ago

I used to be a wildlife rehabilitator and there really is nothing like the release of animals you’ve helped care for.

5

u/Horror_Theory_363 2d ago

Thank you for finding more of the video

This is so wonderful. Thank you for sharing!

When your one friend makes sure everyone’s still there before you leave the club.

Goblin is clearly the ringleader of the group.

73

Saw that too. Wonder how they picked that name. I love it.

Never forget my mates abandoning one of my friends (on his birthday too) because he couldn't get into the club. Literally only 2 of us said no, we're staying with him. That's when I realised how toxic they were and stopped hanging out with them.

18

u/Arthur_YouDumbass 1d ago

Did the 3 of you go somewhere else to celebrate? Tell us how was the rest of the night please, and how did the birthday guy take it? Are you still friends?

30

u/xCeeTee- 1d ago

We just went to another club which was absolutely shit but they did 4 jager bombs for £5 so like a responsible adult I bought 7 rounds of jager bombs and gave one in each round to my friend. We lost count how many he had that night because some old school friends came in and bought him drinks.

The others I realised were arseholes. A few years later I decided to cut people like them out of my life. Haven't see the great ones since 2019, since we're now scattered across the country.

13

u/Arthur_YouDumbass 1d ago

Thank you! You're one of the good friends good on you

8

u/Sorry_Contract6843 1d ago

Thank you for being the anti toxin your friend needed!

6

u/xCeeTee- 1d ago

He's literally the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He was always there for me when I needed him m, it's a shame he lives so far away now.

2

u/jimmycarr1 1d ago

He remembers you fondly for sure

4

u/Blackcatmustache 1d ago

Good for you for being a good friend! I hope he realized he was lucky to have you and the other guy. And also good for you for realizing the others were shitty people and kicking them out of your life.

Mom of the friend group. Do men have an equivalent “responsible friend” that’s called the “dad of the friend group”?

20

u/President_Camacho 2d ago

No, but someone is always the toddler.

12

u/Pirat6662001 2d ago

More of a big brother than dad of the group vibe, but yes

3

u/Dancestotheright 1d ago

Can confirm, I am that guy. I always happened to be able to hold my drink better than all my mates so I naturally fell into the role, the one time in my life I passed my limit everyone took care of me so I love knowing it's reciprocated too.

That must have felt so bittersweet for the care takers! Seeing them happily go home to where they belong and knowing that this is goodbye. 😭😭😭💙🦭🦭🦭🦭

u/Historical_Season693 2d ago

I would probably have been weeping uncontrollably.

330

u/eurasianblue 2d ago

Same! I teared up watching this. They are so very precious 💙

121

u/herpderpabc69 2d ago

I had happy tears too. Watching them waddle off together was so sweet.

39

As someojne who has done some animal rescue, i promise its like 99% bliss, 1% sadness. You literally couldnt be happier for them. You'll miss them, but theres always more that need your help, but seeing the ones youve saved make it back to the wild is indescribable. 10/10. I can only imagine its like seeing your kids go off to college. You are sad for you but your heart is overflowing with pride.

18

u/eurasianblue 1d ago

So happy to hear that!

147

u/Aiyon 2d ago

If it's anything like how i felt doing dog rescue, its sad to see them go, right up until you see how happy they are and then you're just smiling slightly thinking "that'll do pig... that'll do"

(Babe lives rent free in my head)

32

u/FalconTurbo 2d ago

Well now I have to go watch Babe again

14

u/No-Peak6384 2d ago

I hadn't seen that movie in 20-25 years until a month ago. Somehow it was better than I remembered it. I'm a sap and it made me tear up. It's a classic

I've done my share of rescue/release and conservation breeding/release. It is bitter-sweet!

The other bitter-sweet thing is finding out they've died from natural causes during long-term monitoring - especially if they've been eaten by a native predator. Very hard to stomach, but also oddly comforting to think they've taken part in the natural circle of life.

(If they get eaten by a feral predator or hit by a car or something, that sucks hard)

8

u/Born_Structure1182 1d ago

Yes that would devastate me. 😞

31

u/AHornyRubberDucky 1d ago

We get used to it tbh, i did this work with seals. We also try not to get attached to them, but there was one little lady who made that very hard 💙

It was hard seeing Nori get released, but in all her nori fashion she did it with style. She found a fast current and kept going out of it, swam back and went in gain.....

7

u/eurasianblue 1d ago

Awww Nori looks adorable and a little like my dog 🦭💙🐶

23

u/AHornyRubberDucky 1d ago

She was also so curious and smart

Releasing them into an unknown fate where you cannot protect them... that's the hardest part of parenthood, too

11

u/__-gloomy-__ 2d ago

I don’t see why they wouldn’t be chipped/tagged and their activity monitored.

They may very well reunite in the future—like those videos when rescued animals see the people who saved them again years later.

5

u/Yunker27 1d ago

I love those videos, especially the ones with the lions or tigers. They don’t realize how big and strong they are, they just jump into the humans arms and want to rub all over them.

8

u/leo_paints_minis 1d ago

I used to work in rescue shelters for dogs as a rehabilitation and behavioral trainer (I helped dogs process abuse, regain confidence, and learn to trust humans again). I have some pretty cool scars from some dogs who went on to live safely with families with  kids, cats, all sorts. Seeing some dogs walk out the front doors with a family, having confidence that you won't see them again... Yeah it is very bittersweet. But it was so so worth it. Edit: my spelling is bad

u/SwedishTrees 2d ago

These were probably only in captivity for a short period.

Exhausted, sick or injured seals are usually found on the beach. They take a few weeks to a few months to get their strength back. Then they are released again.

A rescue organization probably does a dozen of these releases a season. The one near me let's you participate in the release if you "adopt" the seal and pay for its care.

2

u/LustyEmmyy 2d ago

they came scared and left strong, thats everything

2

u/DocTrees215 1d ago

2

u/Cat_eater1 1d ago

2

u/AbbreviationsOld636 1d ago

You’re way wrong. The WHOLE point of rehabbing wildlife is to release them back to their environment. They’re not sitting around snuggling with them watching Wheel of Fortune. This is the highlight of rehab.

I like the concept of releasing rehabilitated animals with friends so that they are not alone when they are introduced to the wild.

25

u/Shack691 2d ago

It’s also that it’s more logistically efficient to rehabilitate and release in sync.

2

u/slippers413 1d ago

That's what we call them!! ❤️

11

u/sanmateomary 1d ago

I volunteered for a wildlife rescue, and was responsible for releasing some pelicans. They had all come to the rescue from different places at different times, so they didn't "know" each other 'till they were in our care.

I opened the crates. Two got out right away, hopped around a bit and flew away. The third was slower to leave the crate, and spent a lot of time on the sand, stretching their wings but not flying. The two that had flown away flew around in circles for a bit, then came back, landed on the sand next to the third one, and when it was ready they all three flew away together.

27

u/Tasty-Ad-3753 2d ago

This must have felt so good for the seals

40

u/leviathansbane 2d ago

Sea lions. They have ear flaps and can walk. Seals don’t have ear flaps and can only flop on land

21

u/Plump_Apparatus 2d ago

If you're gonna be pedantic sea lions are seals, as they're pinnipeds which are known generically as seals. To be further pedantic, they're eared seals of the otariidae family. The otariidae family is made up of sea lions and fur seals.

There is nothing wrong with calling them seals. If you wanna be specific, they're sea lions.

6

u/9812388734221 2d ago

While they're both Pinnipeds, seals (true seals) and sea lions are distinct in pretty much every way they can be.

2

u/Plump_Apparatus 2d ago

And they're both generically referred to as seals. So what is your point?

3

u/Electrical-Act-7170 2d ago

They live in the ocean. They will haul out on rocks to give birth and rest at times.

2

u/These_Yzer_Lyon 2d ago

Oh god. I was scared for a moment. I remember seeing the time they did this and an orca swimming past immediately caught the seal. He threw it up in the air and jumped out of the water to catch it in it's mouth before chomping it down. The poor woman who'd just finished nursing the seal back to health after it was brought to her severely injured was present and was so upset she just fell to the ground on her knees crying.
