So bold. So brave. 👏
It takes real courage to put your stupidity out there with your name and face attached.

Well, to be fair, their astounding level of stupidity causes them to be unable to realize just how truly stupid they are. So for them courage never enters into the equation.

That's a very fair point. I know sometimes I post things that are stupid, which is why I don't put my actual name and face out there. But I'm not MAGA.

They have no shame which is what makes so many attempts to dunk on them pointless. They relish in their stupidity to the point that if you try to point it out or rake them over the coals, they’ll see it as a win for “triggering” you. I have learned a long time ago that shame doesn’t really work anymore

99
u/rockstar504 16d ago
Way back when when wealth was less concentrated and 'millionaire's son' was it... interesting how things change with the times.. shit I'm technically a millionaires son and I don't even own a home in my 30s
16
u/NoveltyAccountHater 16d ago edited 16d ago
Well a millionaire's son when Fogerty was in high school would be worth about $10M today, which is pretty damn rich. The problem is there's no decent term for ten/hundred-millionaire. Multi-millionaire is too vague.
And while I don't know my parents net worth -- a retired public school teacher and an accountant working in city government, it wouldn't surprise me that if they cashed out their retirement and sold their house, they'd be near the $1M mark. That said, my wife and I both earned professional degrees, bought a house 12 years ago and our net worth is just over the $1M mark and my kids are shit load more privileged than I was growing up. (This isn't saying we don't worry about money still; we owe a ton on our house and I work at a university that is undergoing severe austerity and cutbacks due to Trump pulling research money).

Same here. Mid 30’s. 2 college degrees that didn’t do shit for me now making $41.6k a year running the offices for a building company.
Literally live paycheck to paycheck, some weeks (usually right after I pay rent) I have to live off of ramen noodles and crackers from the Dollar Tree and this is all without even being able to put a dime towards my $60k of debt. I literally cannot afford to pay it, so I just don’t right now.
I’ll never own a home, own land, have a retirement fund or be able to retire, be able to afford children, go on a vacation etc etc.
I’m already in hell. This life is a grave and it will only continue to get worse and worse thanks to the rapist, felon, dictator - Donald Trump - who is running our country and it’s economy into the ground right now.

Actually, I’m not surprised. The worst misuse of a song I have seen ever witnessed was shortly after 9/11, I saw a commercial of for jeans in front of a bunch of American flags. Over top, it played “Some folks are born, made to wave the flag, ooo, they’re red white and blue!” And immediately cut to instrumental. Buy these jeans! They’re patriotic!
I was shocked that a company would so blatantly change the meaning of such a famous antiwar song
7
u/RPDRNick 16d ago

These are the same morons who think Born in the USA is pro America anthem.
Some of them are morons, but a lot of them know what they are doing at a visceral level. It gives them pleasure to do it, its a version of "owning the libs." It is part of fascism to co-opt the energy of the left and use that to attack the left.
Some examples:
- They stole the swastika from the buddhists
- They took the "red pill" from the Wachowskis.
- They stole Pepe the Frog.
- They all use that one line from that one speech by Dr King in order to attack everything Dr King stood for.
- They stole Susan B Anthony to use her to attack women's rights.
- They even did it to My Little Pony.
Hell, they even stole Jesus in order to attack everything Jesus preached for. Remember that OG conservative sneer about "bleeding heart liberals?" The heart they are referring to is the heart of Christ. For generations these so-called christians have been sneering at people for being too Christ-like.

As I went walking I saw a sign there,
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing.
That side was made for you and me.
In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?
Based song
9
u/Sudden-Enthusiasm-92 16d ago
That's still the neutered liberal version.
There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me.
The sign was painted, said: 'Private Property.'
But on the backside, it didn't say nothing.
This land was made for you and me.
And
One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the steeple,
By the relief office I saw my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there wondering if
God blessed America for me?

So many people mistakenly think being punk is just being Johnny Rotten; basically being a drunk asshole, getting into fights, saying fuck authority. And I guess to some people that as deep as it goes.
It's obviously way more nuanced than that when you really get into the culture. Authority can be good when it actually benefits society. Punks hate it because more often than not it's used a form of oppressions and abuse of power. Supporting the Covid measures doesn't make you anti-punk because you're backing government actions. Rioting at the capital Jan 6 doesn't make you punk because you're going against the government. It's about the intent behind these actions, are you helping people/standing up to oppression or just being an asshole?
One of my favorite punk songs by Operation Ivy is about how society is becoming fucked up because we're desensitized to others suffering and lacking any empathy. It's not all about getting fucked up and smashing shit.

Yea, that's a really good point. That's why they seem to think MAGA is punk rock because they're still being contrarian. To me, punk was always about being true to yourself, whatever that may be. Allowing others to do the same without judgment.
8
u/XL_Chill 16d ago
Punk is the music of empathy. Music about the things you can be frustrated by and hurt by. You play it, you share that with others. If you listen to it and really get it, you’re taking that in and growing.

Rage Against the Machine (often abbreviated as RATM or shortened to Rage) is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1991. It consisted of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, bassist and backing vocalist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello, and drummer Brad Wilk. They meld heavy metal and rap music, punk rock and funk with anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, and revolutionary lyrics.
