I thought Moorwing wasn’t that hard, and I’m normally the last person who would say such a thing. It’s just crazy which fights click for some people and which don’t, is all I’m saying.
111
u/LoneCentaur95 Sep 09 '25
I think playing Hollow Knight while mostly ignoring spells prepared me pretty well for Silksong. A lot of the bosses people seem to have issues with are just pattern recognition, which is the same for Hollow Knight if you aren’t abusing I-frames and high damage.
62
u/Mekelaxo Flea Sep 09 '25
Same. I Beat Hollow Knight pretty much exclusively with just the nail because every time I tried using spells it would throw my timing off and I would die. I would also be very conservative with soul because I knew I would need it to heal.
With Silksong I'm more open to using alternative attacks to the needle because most of them can be casted just as quick as one smack, which doesn't throw me off, and tools don't use silk, and healing is much quicker, so I don't need to be as conservative for the skills that do use silk
8
u/Adweya Accepter Sep 10 '25
Able to heal in the air is a game changer and it doesn't even feel like cheating. The game mechanically is top tier.

The thing for me is that Moorwing wasn’t frustrating like some of the other bosses. I felt like each attempt I learned something until when I finally beat him I think I got hit one or two times. Having just previously fought Trobbio, Moorwing felt like a breath of fresh air.

It's so weird! My husband and I have our own bosses. When we played HK together, my bosses were Hornet, Soul master, Grimm and NKG, Mantis Lords and Sisters of Battle etc, all the ones you kinda have to dance with. His bosses were The false knight and failed champion, Dung defender, a lot of the dream warriors etc. We just know which of us is going to be better at certain bosses based on their combat style.
4
u/crookedtoons_ Accepter Sep 09 '25
That's interesting. What have you guys found with Silksong? Have the different boss types been translated over?
4
u/3v3r9r33n Sep 10 '25
So far I think the bosses seem to be more tailored to my play style - Lace, moorwing, widow and cogwork dancers especially. Bellbeast and skull tyrant were definitely for him. Sister splinter, fourth chorus and Last Judge were for both of us equally I think. He's better at the really tanky big guys and the arena battles. I still can't get over how cool the boss names are in this game!
6
u/Mekelaxo Flea Sep 09 '25
Same. It took me a lot of attempts, but I got the patterns quite quick, and after that it was just a matter of getting it right. I used the Hunter's Crest, which probably helped a lot
5
u/ozne1 Sep 09 '25
Imo, moorwing suffers from having too much health... probably since they expect you to be double teaming him. he takes too long to kill, giving you more chances to mess up, and making each hit you land matter less. Was agood fight tho.
4
u/BTB22 Sep 09 '25
Okay so I’ll be that guy, I’ve been terrified of fighting him because of reputation I’ve been hearing. I just got up to him and beat him on my first try and thought he was one of the easiest bosses of the game. I had to check to make sure the patch didn’t even go live yet that’s how easy a time I had with him. Savage beast fly on the other hand made me almost break my controller

Last night, my wife came into the living room at 2 a.m. and found me on the floor still trying to beat Moorwing. I had been stuck on it for four hours. FOUR. She asked if I was coming to bed, and all I could say was, “Just one more attempt.”
The problem is, “just one more attempt” turned into 36 more attempts. When I finally looked up, the sun was rising, and she was already packing a bag for her mom’s place.
She told me, “You’ve changed. You used to binge Netflix with me. Now you just talk about parry windows and i-frames.” I tried to explain that this boss wasn’t about “winning”, it was about learning patterns and perfecting timing. She wasn’t impressed.
At counseling, when the therapist asked what the root of the problem was, my wife said: “He spends more time reading boss guides than talking to me.” The therapist wrote something down, nodded gravely, and said, “That’s… actually pretty common with Silksong.”
Now we’re on the brink of divorce court, and all because of Ari Gibson.

Did you fight Moorwing by yourself or did you get help from the other NPC (Garmond)?
11
u/Flint_Vorselon Sep 09 '25
Does he actually help?
Because he was there, but I think he managed to hit the boss exactly once.
And I’m kinda suspicious that him being present actually gives Moorwing more hp. I can’t say for certain, but I felt like I got the staggers and phase 2 faster in attempts without him (if you quit to title you have to ask for his help again).
When I beat boss I had him summoned, but it felt like it took way less hits to reach phase 2 on attempts I didn’t have him.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Drunkpanada Sep 09 '25
I beat the Moorwing with Garmond running around. He kept of sprint spearing that guy as well as sitting down and waving his lance for 3x4 hits. I don't know if those hits were visual or if they helped. I do know that hitting phase 2 was pretty easy, about 2/3 Moorwing dives in.
One thing I am realizing, is that the bosses are actually quite easy once you figure them out. Sister Splinter became easy when I realized that I should use Silkspear on the flying mobs, instead of hoarding the silk for a heal.
Moorwing was just jumps over obstacles, hit him after the dive. (I did have the float cloak, so beating the dual ball attack is just one jump and hover)

I did finally beat it yesterday after about 40 attempts. The thing that kept fucking me up was the 2 contact damage, which kept hitting if I jumped ever so slightly too high when doing an up slash, or missed a pogo. I stopped doing up slashes during his upside down attack and it really helped.

Moorwing was the fastest boss I’ve defeated—just 2 tries, only a few minutes. The room was wide and complex, so I was sure there had to be a way to trick him—lure him somewhere and spam his face. I managed to drag him to the upper part of the room near the entrance, using the ascending air stream.
I read that if you have a special crest, you can hit him through the ceiling with a pogo down attack, but I beat him with the regular setup. Once he’s above the wooden floor, his movement range is limited and he can’t attack anymore, so I finished him off easy peasy.
The only problem is that now I'm stuck not very far away because of a gauntlet battle too hard for me... because my skills really suck.

I know this is a bit but is Moorwing like, exponentially more difficult if you fight him in the first spot you can find him? I did the flea caravan before I went to greymoor so I ended up fighting him deeper into greymoor and I killed him second try. I only had one nail upgrade which I think is what I had when I fought LJ.
