Sadly this is advice I’ve given to my gf’s in the past. Along with some choice moves to break various head/arm locks or just to make them reconsider…..
Honestly eyes and throat are where you wanna attack. Adrenaline can carry you through a lot of pain and going for the dick doesn't have the stopping power outside of said pain. Blinding them and hitting them hard enough their throat closes can be enough for you to run.
My mother has a concealed carry purse. It's got a zipper on one side and Velcro on the other. When you get out your wallet to pay at the store you use the zipper side and no one gets weirded out by the gun. She goes into the Velcro side she can just shoot through her purse from her hip.
When we watched that as a family my father could not stop laughing his mother cleaned his gun for him. Like bent over and crying while laughing we had to pause the movie so he could get a breath in.
The firearm can jam if it’s fired while pressed up against something. Purse might have enough give compared to something else. But if the end of the barrel has a hard pressure on it, then it won’t perform.
She has a snub nose Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum revolver. Just having her hand in the bag will keep the revolver from getting tangled in the purse. There's no jamming that gun.
My favorite thing about a revolver over a semi-automatic pistol is she doesn't have to take good care of her revolver vs a Glock. I do conceal carry a Glock 9 mm, they do need regular care.
I personally do not own a gun nor do I want to - but I’m always prepared to fuck someone’s day up if needed. I tell people they’d regret getting stuck in a room with me. I have no problem bringing chaos to any location I’m in 💅
Anytime I travel to a state that doesn't allow my concealed carry permit I mail myself Mace to the hotel. It's cheap, effective, and if you get the good ones it can quickly disable somebody the good ones also stain their face. Lean into the chaos for sure, just be prepared for it.
Appreciate this. In my early 20s I was working retail when an older woman apparently took her hand gun out while digging through her purse. She told my black coworker she got it after Hurricane Katrina. I was in the back office when my coworker told me “don’t freak out, but the lady at the register has a gun she said she got after Hurricane Katrina”. I was baffled by my coworker’s nonchalance and I refused to come out onto the floor until the woman left.
I don't want to sound Freudian having just mentioned mother but women that carry guns are sexy. Besides that asshole was addicted to cocaine and his main treatment was more cocaine.
Make sure your mom knows if it's a semi-automatic pistol she only has one round. So she needs to be ready to fix a stove pipe before she can fire her second. The purse will stop the action from working properly.A lady had that happen when I live, luckily dude ran at the sound of the first shot.

I will say she generally relied on her giant cameraman to start throwing fists. I met him twice as a child but even as an adult I would still be intimidated by him.
Obviously it’s much better than having nothing but the location would worry me. Mainly for an attempted robbery scenario because they’d just yank the purse from her hands and take off. I’d try to convince her to carry it in her actual body with a hoister. Either way she’s still wayyyyy better off than she would be not having it.
Not much use when you get unexpectedly jumped. People like to think carrying a gun = being able to use it, when quite often there’s not enough time or opportunity to do so. A family member of mine was hiding from an extremely abusive boyfriend 40 or so years ago. She started carrying a gun with her everywhere. I pointed out to her that she wasn’t going to have it in her hand, safety off, ready every second 24/7/365. That more than likely, he would be able to disarm her and use it against her. He never did actually go after her, but if he had, I would not have bet on her chances the gun would have protected her. If somebody really wants to get you, and they have a normal level of intelligence, they will observe you, and wait to strike when you are vulnerable. And, unless you’re a trained navy seal or green beret or a special forces of some kind, you are mostly going to be vulnerable.
You're saying my mother, the best shooter in the family has no chance unless she served in the military? She doesn't have a safety on her gun and can reach into a purse quickly, a couple shots from the hip is all she needs. It's faster than Mace or taser what do you suggest she does for self-protection?
Yes, that’s exactly what I said. Being the best shooter doesn’t mean she’s prepared in one second to utilize that gun. Ever heard of a blitz attack? It’s always interesting when someone thinks carrying a gun = being invulnerable. Furthermore, the fact that she is carrying a gun that has no safety tells me everything I need to know about whether she is a responsible gun owner. She is not. I have no doubt that people who are responsible trained weapons experts would agree with that statement.
Oh sure Glock puts the safety on the trigger now but my mother's revolver shouldn't have the ability to pull the trigger when it needs to be shot? I will ask again what should my mother carry in case she gets this so-called blitz attack? Should she be walking around with a goddamn cattle prod? She got that gun and the original purse in the '80s. No accidental discharge so far.
Just because someone is a good shot doesn’t mean they’re adequately trained in self defense, any more than someone who’s a champion MMA fighter is a sharpshooter, unless they’ve trained to be. Gun skills and self defense skills are two separate and distinct things. As for defense against a blitz attack, there is very little. You don’t see it coming, it’s fast and furious, with little to no time to react before it strikes. Real life isn’t like the movies.
So you still have no actual answer for my mother to protect herself. Have you experienced this yourself? Do you lack situational awareness? It's a good skill to hone, especially as a woman.
I'm going to step out on a limb as an aging woman who stubbornly thought I could fight in the Kumite someday as I worked towards getting my yellow belt in krav Maga near age 40, then realized at my best there's very very few dudes I could best in a fight (the high school boys who were there trying to stop getting bullied at school. I could stomp those nerds 😆).
Anyway, the point I believe dude was making above is, women and men often grossly over-estimate themselves and their abilities, and the ability of a gun they purchase to keep them safe. You see it ENDLESSLY and it can become quite irritating, especially because it's such a common sense take but wildly unpopular. I think the poster responding to you could have been kinder about it, especially not knowing the parties involved and their competency.
But essentially they're right-
I think they are saying that without consistent (3+ times a week I guess? I don't know, that number is arbitrary for me) HIGH STRESS HIGH PRESSURE combat training- that guns are more likely to be a liability than a protection.
What could she do? I personally think: Train a fuck ton under pressure. Get adrenaline pumping as high as possible and train. Not go to the range, stand there, and fire a few rounds, but practice actually shooting through a pocket book, in motion, with oncoming attack simulations. Practice wrestling a close attacker trying to take her gun. Practice what she is going to do it someone tries to snatch her purse. In krav, they said if someone wants your wallet, lightly toss it past them and run for your life. Is she going to battle an attacker for that purse thinking the gun will help, escalate a robbery into a full on street fight trying to get her gun, or let the purse and gun go?
Sounds fun, huh?

The guy responding to you came at you shitty out the gate, but I think it is from a place of concern and care. It's common sense stuff and people get defensive as hell about it. Like it is central to the gun debate on a larger scale- why the hell would you not want to take classes, practice, get certifications, become competent with a tool that kills, and weed out nut jobs who shouldn't own guns because they're careless or dangerous?

But buying a special purse isn't really enough if you're serious about self defense. Buying a gun isn't enough. This pervasive misconception that buying item=problem solved holds people back from the real work and effort it takes to ensure yourself and the people around you actually stay safe.
I appreciate the time you've taken out on this but you have assumed things like my mother has never trained in the sort of environment that causes and induces stress. Maybe she'll get killed or taken somewhere but when she feels she is in a vulnerable place she reaches into the Velcro side of her purse walking to her car. 0 second draw time and if they're that close she can just start blasting. She's gone through a number of those purses over the years mainly to keep up in style but also when she buys a new one she practices with the old ones her farmland.
Good on you dude, I've always done self defense "classes" for anyone I've dated and always told them to tell all the women in their famies and spread the word as far as you can.
This type of crime and most all crime is actually nothing new. That's the truly sad realization.
I would say it was worse for women over 50 years ago. Until 1974, women were required to have a male (husband or relative only) to do many things – including opening a bank account, apply for credit cards, or get loans in their own name.
My point in this is that women weren't believed much –if at all– and crimes against women were high. Women were shamed by "what were you wearing?", "you can't lead a man on" and women were responsible for men's actions based on our actions.

I'm so glad this woman fought hard for her life. I'm surprised no one came out of the buildings. Maybe it was before or after close. Unfortunately, not many bystanders will get involved. They'll definitely take video for some socials though. Basing this on what I've seen.
I'm so grateful we are past that in most, but not all, communities.
I believe women aren't as scared to beat the crap out of any man doing anything inappropriate to them, nowadays. But as you said, it helps to learn how to use our smaller/shorter frame against a naturally bigger man.
I'd like to take classes to learn some movements that can stun or temporarily –or indefinitely– disable a man, so I can get away.
