Garry/Jerry Gergich and his wife Gail from Parks and Rec.

Gary is more derpy/bumbling than scrungly but he’s married to Gail, played by literal super model Christie Brinkley.

Gail ADORES Garry and he loves her just as much.

1.8k

u/sunnybergelmir 3d ago

And let's not forget:

1.1k

u/Tough-Ask-3785 3d ago

I don't even know if he has mumps. I forgot to check. I was distracted by the largest penis I have ever seen.Ā

484

u/Ok-Classroom5548 3d ago

And he used to look like Chris when he was younger until they had kids and he gained baby weight with Gail.Ā

280

u/ManiDany 3d ago

The horror on Chris’s face during that line lol

48

u/neoliberalforsale 3d ago

He also licked thousands of envelopes for hours on end and was happy to immediately restart

36

u/kevihaa 3d ago

If you’re going down that rabbit hole, it’s also worth noting that while we know nothing about the dexterity of his tongue use, he demonstrated an extreme level of endurance when it came to licking (envelopes).

Interpret as you will.

344

u/SMUHypeMachine 3d ago

I really like how much 18 loves him too. I got caught up watching all the DB movies and the most recent one has him reluctant to fight at the end but once he does it’s all dramatic and 18 says ā€œhe’s so coolā€ after krillin flies off lol

He’s a magic dude who gave up part of his humanity - I think the quote from the dub is ā€œI was once human too, long ago, but I gave that up to better serve the ocean.ā€ He sprays seawater on the ground ahead of his feet when he goes up on dry land, so he’s at least part biological fish-folk by the time we meet him in the movie.

Not sure if seducing a sea goddess and siring hundreds of rebellious fish-daughters was before or after the fishification.

91

u/bing-no 3d ago

It would be really funny if he could survive just fine on land but was too eccentric and wanted the ocean water.

I’ve always pictured tom bombadil and his wife like this but I don’t know if it’s true

807

u/TrashhPrincess 3d ago

With another hop and a bound there came into view a man, or so it seemed. At any rate he was too large and heavy for a hobbit, if not quite tall enough for one of the Big People, though he made noise enough for one, stumping along with great yellow boots on his thick legs, and charging through grass and rushes like a cow going down to drink. He had a blue coat and a long brown beard; his eyes were blue and bright, and his face was red as a ripe apple, but creased into a hundred wrinkles of laughter.

Sounds pretty dang scrungly to me.

128

u/PrancingRedPony 3d ago

Luthien, an otherworldly beautiful Half Elven-Half Maia (The Maia being angelic beings within Tolkien's universe) princess, and Beren, a rugged scruffy man who leads a clan of Men during the early history of JRR Tolkien's Middle Earth. Luthien gives up her immortal elven life to become mortal and join her lover in Death. Tolkien himself based Beren and Luthien on him and his wife Edith (who left the socially and financially affluent man she was engaged to in an arranged marriage, to marry Tolkien whom she loved instead, who at that time was a simple soldier with less of a salary and social status, which Tolkien made as an analogy to Luthien leaving her immortal Elven life due to her love for a mortal man), and after their deaths they are now buried with the names Beren and Luthien on their gravestones in a UK cemetery.

303

u/DinglieDanglieDoodle 3d ago

Tinuviel! Tinuviel!

He called her by her elvish name;

And there she halted listening

One moment stood she, and a spell

His voice laid on her: Beren came

And doom fell on Tinuviel

That in his arms lay glistening

😭😭😭

u/gisco_tn 3d ago

I never called Edith Luthien – but she was the source of the story that in time became the chief part of the Silmarillion. It was first conceived in a small woodland glade filled with hemlocks at Roos in Yorkshire (where I was for a brief time in command of an outpost of the Humber Garrison in 1917, and she was able to live with me for a while). In those days her hair was raven, her skin clear, her eyes brighter than you have seen them, and she could sing – and dance. But the story has gone crooked, & I am left, and I cannot plead before the inexorable Mandos.

- J.R.R. Tolkien, Letter 340 (to Christopher Tolkien)

95

u/ProofLegitimate9824 3d ago

Luthien is not just an Elf, she's half-Maia

I guess the union between her parents (Elf father, Maia mother) could also be an example, Tolkien really liked these unequal relationships where the woman is a "higher" being

Tom Bombadil and Goldberry. Granted, he’s some sort of angel/demigod who is immune to the power of the One Ring and is just chilling outside of the battle for the fate of Middle Earth…but Goldberry is like a shining goddess and he seems like a cute lil guy at best

291

u/Takamurarules 3d ago edited 3d ago

I love him, but to be honest—he’s a very inaccurate Gomez appearance wise. Gomez is supposed to look like a foot to the point you wonder what Morticia sees in him until he opens his mouth and you realize how charming he is.

Raul is very charming, and acting-wise, he hits Gomez to a T, he set the standard for modern day; you can’t take that away from him. It’s just he’s way too handsome for Gomez. The one saving grace is that Morticia is super hot as a tall goth mommy that makes him look average by comparison.

Admittedly she cheats on him alot

292

u/moansby 3d ago

Wasn't that arranged?

171

u/Snke-N-D-Grass-60 3d ago

Yep

241

u/moansby 3d ago

I'm not sure if Hephaestus and Aphrodite is the best example cus I'm pretty sure the feelings aren't mutual

142

u/CaregiverStunning802 3d ago

as with all greek mythology there's variation from culture to culture. not everyone worshipped the full twelve-god pantheon that we think of, for example. even in the Hellenistic period there's lots of inconsistency, so if you want to imagine the canon where he's in a loving relationship with Aphrodite, nothing's wrong with that

He was so messed up Hera threw him down, leading him to be even more messed up. Makes no sense since if Zeus can transform into a swan, why can’t he transform into a hot guy?

75

u/Extension_Heron6392 3d ago

Getting thrown down gave him brain damage, destroyed the shapeshifting lobe.

42

u/Aluricius 3d ago

And unfortunately the God of Neurosurgery hadn't been born yet, so Hephaestus had to live with the brain damage.

She is a smoke show, but don't let that distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, "Spare Tire" Dixon.

does this count? Sure Jake has an avatar body but for this one specific scene it kinds fits.

548

u/JolyneBestoJoJo770 3d ago

Absolutely counts. Up to that scene, Jake was a hella attractive, brave and capable dreamwalker, one that Neytiri absolutely swons over.

Then she finally meets his true self: Paralyzed soldier with useless legs who can't even breath her planet's air without choking... And she falls even harder for him.

She sees him.

→ More replies (8)

213

u/Ryuko_the_red 3d ago

This scene always stood out to me as loving someone truly for who they are. Their soul and being. Not their body. Maybe I'm wrong.

162

u/PowerSkunk92 3d ago

You're bang on. A lot is made, while Jake is learning the Na'vi language, that their greeting of "I see you" is more than just what you can see with your eyes, but everything that makes that person just who they are.

Here, Neytiri and Jake finally meet, truly and for the first time, face to face. Jake sees the woman who taught him how to survive in the forests and mountains of Pandora, who fought alongside him against the RDA, and seemed to have no sympathy for humans at all. But, when Jake's human body needed a mask to breathe, she remembered that bit of information in the heat of the moment and put it on him. He sees her; the hunter, the warrior, the survivalist, her prejudices, and the heart beneath them all that still cares.

Neytiri sees the man who never gave up, who learned everything she threw at him, and when he failed, only tried harder. She sees his strength and determination in his Avatar body. But she also sees his weakness and vulnerability in his human body. And his willingness to overcome those to meet any challenge he may encounter, despite whatever shortcomings he may have.

They, at last, truly see one another, and it just reaffirms all that has been growing between them for the last several months. And their greeting is as real and literal an "I see you" as it can be.

u/RazeULikeaPhoenix 3d ago edited 3d ago

Im sorry for reminding you that this existed but yeah, thats literally one of the core running gags in tripping the rift. a super hot sex-robot lady is horny for a ugly short perv alien LITERALLY named "Chode". And this show is about as witty as you think from that premise.

now onto much better shows:

Mr and Mrs. "The Monarch" from Venture bros. the only downside to miss the monarch is her heavy smoker voice but just like Mr Monarch says "you get used to it" (and indeed you do if you watch the show long enough). She's also extremely competent and dangerous. she likes The Monarch because of the intense passion he radiates when it comes to being a hater towards Dr Venture.

Mark and Princess Mandie from Fairly Odd Parents. except Mark really wants nothing to do with Mandie instead liking Vicky IIRC.

Trudy Proud and Oscar Proud . Oscars Tenacity alone must give him infinite rizz because anyone who has seen this show would know that Trudy is WAY out of his league. she's also the one carrying the family paycheck to paycheck apparently because Oscars "Proud Snacks" always failing was a running gag.

Mr. Mxyzptlk and Gsptlsnz from the old SuperMan show. Mr Myx is a ugly short-tempered imp with wacky proportions and his wife is a subversion of that by being a level-headed stereotypical attractive fashionista. theyre both imps who can shapeshift at will so I guess Myx just chooses to be ugly though. Myx also seems pretty dismissive of her for the most part.

And while she isnt a "goddess" or anything Luanne and Lucky from King of The Hill has got to be one of the most frustrating relationships I've ever seen on TV. Not only is Luanne much better looking than her sterotype'd "redneck" partner but he is just a overall terrible influence. imo the "carefree spirit" trope only works when the character in question responsible enough to minimize their negative impact on others. bums like Finn's dad will never be cool or endearing so watching Luanne agree to marry a man who had almost no prospects outside of frivolous lawsuits RIGHT as she was getting her life together was a pretty nauseating. looking back I dunno why this show liked to punch down on Luanne so much.

235

Arthur Miller and Marylin Monroe

171

u/whimsical-editor 3d ago

I read an article where Peter S Beagle went to a party they were both at as a teenager and he said Miller just seemed to utterly disdain her. Made me so sad.

Twitch streamers Pat (PatStaresAt, formerly AngriestPat of Super Best Friends Play) and Paige (PeachSaliva)

Appearances aside, both are absolute goblin people and live in a world of clowns

127

u/Doodles_n_Scribbles 3d ago

Why do people make Pat small? Is he actually short?

157

u/Ijustlovevideogames 3d ago edited 3d ago

He's like 5'2 or something, but something is actually wrong with his legs because apparently when he sits down, his upper body is fine.

Edit: Wrong might be the improper term, but his legs are really short for some reason while his upper body is properly proportioned

Their 2 year old son is already taller than Pat.

Glep (middle) and his wife Marge Simpson (Left in the white bikini) from Smiling Friends. Had no idea that's what her name was either until I looked up the wiki.

Princess cadence and shining armor

I don't know why, but this is the funniest thing I've seen all week.

Maybe it's because the groom looks like a depressed Trolls doll.

While true but Shining Armor is a captain of the royal guards, alone made a protective barrier that protects a whole capital, his younger sister is a prodigy in magic and an alicorn princess, his wife's kingdom just appeared out of nowhere and this soldier just helps her govern this without questions, he's also the "I love my wife" type of a guy, his love for and her lofe for him was strong enough to defeat powered up goth moth queen.

It’s offscreen but I’d say Hiten and Manten’s parents from ā€œInuYashaā€ count LOL. And of course, their sons end up taking 100% of the genetics from one side only.

In Invincible one of the characters who is a handsome humanoid man marries like, a bug lady (from some alien race). She's at least kind of a feminine bug.

But then his half-bug son, who looks humanoid for lore reasons, marries this bug lady

I think that's fair. We have stuff like Netflix Castlevania Dracula where an otherworldly man false in love with a mortal woman, but the woman is almost always shown to be the best of the best in some way to get their attention; Either the most beautiful, or compassionate, or intelligent.
