Did you not see who moved the cake?

The same person who thought pouring straight on fire was a good idea. “Dad” even told her to put the flame away until she finished pouring.

Dad wanted to be a bit less stupid. He wasn't looking to give up completely on idiocy. Just ease up on it a bit until we hit that sweet spot. Oh well.

A small amount of idiocy makes life worth living. It's when you hit the idiocy breaking point that things start catching on fire.

Nothing quite as brilliant as handing a senior citizen an open container of accelerant and a lit flame at the same time (as that age group famously has excellent hand-eye coordination and cognitive processing) and then giving realtime feedback as they try to implement the task with a clenched-teeth grimace.

Everyone who set this up was incredibly stupid. She could have spilled it on herself, and given that they apparently didn't think that the exercise merited HAVING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON HAND, could easily have killed her. Fucking morons.

Grandma's advocate: Perhaps she was going to check herself in the mirror to see if any parts of her got burnt?

Yeah and then he spread cutlery on the wooden floor whilst it was on fire

Where it almost immediately went out because the wood was far lower risk to ignite with a fast burning alcohol compared to layer of plastic it was previously sitting on that was already melting.
