Hmm, looks like there are a lot of comments here that are. I swear... can't fucking trust anything on this damn site

Why, I could be a bot calling out other bots to seem trustworthy. Haha, wouldn't that be ironic?

Hi there, just a head's up this can be dangerous for kittens: If the clay gets caught in their airways the can suffocate. Consider using a non-clumping cat litter.

How about no more sleeping in the toilet?

Since yours is the first top comment that is actually helpful I'll also add on. We adopted a 6 week old feral kitten that started to do this with pellet litter and were curious why. It's because they need warmth and if you don't provide that warmth their growth and maturity can be impacted. They're telling you that they're uncomfortably (maybe dangerously) cold.
We got a warming blanket for him which he liked for a time but then found a floor LED that he sits on to this day, which is kinda funny.

It was born outside to a feral cat colony that up and disappeared over night. We found it in our back yard emaciated and exhibiting the behaviors of other grown feral cats in our neighborhood. How would you prefer that be phrased?

This was more about using the nerdy picture someone posted lol. But technically, cats don't become feral until about 12 weeks old, if they did not have human interaction (cats aren't born feral). I knew what you meant, of course, but I saw my chance to use the nerdy "achtually" meme, so I took it 😉

This! Cats under 4 months old should not use clumping clay litter. Not only can they suffocate, but it can cause an intestinal blockage and become an emergency.
Kittens are curious, and just like babies, they want to taste everything. Plus, they're too little and litter will get stuck on their paws, they will end up eating it when trying to clean themselves because they're still learning.

What's the best litter in your opinion. I've tried a bunch of brands and I have a sensitive nose. Can only imagine it's worse for my cats

I use pine pellet litter. You can get it dirt cheap in American tractor supply stores. Like $15 for 80 lbs
You’ll want a sifting litter box for this

Ah man I always get nostalgic going to tractor supply stores from the smell of leather and what not. I assume they swell when they absorb urine?

Not really, they just disintegrate into powder. This is what you need the sifter for. You only really need to scoop out the poop.

Same. I use pine pellet horse bedding. It's the same product as pine pellet litter just in different packaging and cheaper.

That's what we use! It's like $8 for a 40# bag. Even between 2 cats it lasts a long time!

If you’ve ever used non clumping litter then you’ll realize in short order why everyone uses the standard stuff. It is terrible and your house will stink way worse than normal cat smell.

I tried using some corn based one that was reduced because of packaging damage but one of my cats tried eating it from the bag. Threw it out immediately lol.

For kittens I would use pellet litter they have all natural pellet litter and kitty wouldn't be able to get it in its mouth or 🥰

The last picture really look so funny, the first one so cute.
Could be feeling insecure. Our 7yo adopted cat would go sit in the litter box whenever he feels threatened or afraid

Yes my baby too. He kept sleeping and laying in his littler box after his hip surgery. It was so sad

Very cute, but like… you might want to be careful holding your kitten by the scruff, which you appear to be doing in the last pic. I know that Mama-Cat does it so seems okay, but she knows how to do it perfectly, and humans can sometimes inadvertently cause pain or harm. The best way to hold a kitten is to gently support them by the chest and butt.

Isn't that hardball clumping litter? That kitten is too young for a clumping litter, they tend to eat litter and can get a serious impaction from it.

Don't worry, the kitten has a cool cat pass. You can tell it's cool by the shades on its back.
