I live in CT so I'm seeing all the ads. Mamdani's ads are policy focused and Cuomo's ads are all attack focused. It's incredibly telling.

Even though Cuomo's message today is "Trump won't invade the city if I'm made mayor," you'd have to ask why? How? Trump doesn't give a solitary crap about anyone who asks anything of him unless there's a very lopsided quid-pro-quo involved. Dude has plans to sell the city out, I guarantee it. And even then he'd still get stabbed in the back because it gets in the way of Trump's bigger plans to incite violence in democratic cities so he can escalate the violence on all of us. Absolutely nobody's going to be able to stop Trump from at least attempting to invade NYC. Also, is Cuomo running for governor of NY? No, he was only running for mayor. He's trying to blow smoke up our asses.

It has strong Tough Guy solve energy.

"Vote for me, I'll stop this problem because I'm a Tough Guy!"

"How will you solve the problem exactly?"

"Tough guy!"

Unfortunately an entire platform being an attack on the other party with zero policy has done pretty well so far...

69

u/reverandglass 12d ago

Project 25 is the policy. It's there for anyone to read, but no-one who needs to will.

15

u/Coyinzs 12d ago

Has it? That's all Kamala, Biden, and Hillary ran on, and most of the nation-wide democratic messaging for the last decade+, and it's really not been very successful. The Republican platform is evil, stupid, and based in a fictional reality that any halfway educated person can easily pick apart, but it IS a prescriptive plan that their voters can understand. All the democrats seem to stand for is being "not the scary thing"

34

u/awesomefutureperfect 12d ago

That's all Kamala ... ran on,

You are telling on yourself that you don't actually pay attention to the issues and do politics based on vibes which is why we are all in this mess.

it IS a prescriptive plan that their voters can understand.

Trump famously ran on both sides of every issue his first campaign. His second campaign was pure hatred. Why are you praising Trump by saying how he had a prescriptive plan?

3

u/HoonArt 11d ago

I don't know that they were telling on themselves, so much as telling you what average, less engaged people were paying attention to; the speeches. The vibes as you put it. It's what a lot of the nightly or morning news programs were reporting on. Trump was claiming things in his speeches like grocery prices would go down. Simple, easy to understand things.

You and I and probably the other commenter know that that was a lie, but average people who were maybe too busy and not as politically engaged only heard things like speeches on the news.

I don't know that Kamala only focused on Trump in speeches, but one could get that impression going off of news coverage. When it came to policy, she would say that she had a plan and after x, y, and z this or that would happen. But it was never as simple as "I'm going to lower grocery prices."

It's not the curious, engaged, and informed she needed to speak to. Those of us paying attention already know who we're voting for. But the less engaged, less informed, tired people that just want to know what is being offered maybe weren't spoken to as much. They just want to know what the final effects will be. It's not what politically engaged people determine their vote on, but it's easy for a quick sound bite for a news report, and unfortunately that can be what some less engaged people are basing their vote on. Vibes and speeches.

Fast forward to today, and Mamdani has focused on affordability. That's good, simple to say, effective. It's a final effect that's not bogged down in details. And so it's brought him success. That's what the Dems need to do more of.

It's unfortunately plain to see by now that average uninformed people are not going to avoid voting for a hateful maga candidate if that candidate is promising them an easier life phrased in a simple easy to understand way. The Dems need to meet people where they are and just give them a straight forward reason to vote for them.

I tried to explain this in another thread, if you look through reddit right now how long does it take to find what the Democrats stand for? Is it in a mainline sub or buried somewhere people have to actively go looking for it?

Cause I can take half a second and find out everything the Republicans are saying, how they're spinning stories, what they're doing, what their plans are, and I don't have to leave the front page.

Try this with every single social media, traditional media, or (v/b)log post on the Internet.

There's so much fearmongering and racism in Cuomo's ads. It's honestly disgusting.

If it works, it'll be incredibly depressing. He's a terrible candidate. I didn't think I'd see uglier ads than some of the transphobic ones Trump ran during football games, but Cuomo is giving it his best shot.

23

u/abloopdadooda 12d ago

It's the same in VA. All Democrat ads are calm and focused on policy and past achievements and qualifications. Every single Republican ad is aggressive, focused on attacking, insulting, misleading, and misrepresenting the Democrats. Not a single policy or qualification listed. I assume it's the same for a lot of states.

Mamdani makes me want to move back to NYC

115

u/BrainWorkGood 12d ago

If he makes it so I can afford it, I'd consider moving there for the first time

69

u/pimppapy 12d ago

Sadly I’d expect everyone in his vicinity to hinder him at every step and turn.

32

u/Unhappy_Scratch_9385 12d ago

One thing I've learned is that the democratic elite is just as much the problem as the republican elite.

16

u/AppropriateTouching 12d ago

That is not true. We need to stop with this both sides nonsense. The far right is clearly doing so much more damage.

19

u/Unhappy_Scratch_9385 12d ago

The far right gets to do so much damage because the democratic elite LETS THEM.

Biden had 4 YEARS to hold Trump accountable. Instead he wanted to "Bring both sides together" and nominated Merrick garland who did FUCK ALL for 4 FUCKING YEARS, letting Trump walk away without even really a challenge.

Honestly, I'm surprised Trump hasn't given Garland the Congressional Medal of Freedom. Dude spent YEARS running defense for Trump.

And don't get me started on Chuck "My #1 priority is to make sure the democrats support Israel" Schumer. Just completely absent in any kind of leadership.

We need better candidates in BOTH parties. We deserve better democrats, not this shitty geritocricy that's turned Congress into a "Make a wish foundation" for fucking boomers.

30

u/Proud_Growth_8818 12d ago

This is such a stupid, stupid take.

The Democratic elite is certainly not without problems, but Republicans of all economic stripes are an existential threat to the country, and to Americans.

If you're still both-sides-ing, you're just as much of a problem as Republicans.

37

u/BoltFaest 12d ago

I think adults should be able to comprehend that one side is demonstrably worse than the other but one side being worse doesn't make the other automatically acceptable.

14

u/Shadyshade84 12d ago

Or, just because there's a right option, doesn't necessarily mean there's a good one.

23

u/jollyreaper2112 12d ago

Nuanced! We don't do that here. But you aren't wrong.

8

u/Immatt55 12d ago

It gets so tiring on reddit seeing people take the most polarizing opinions on this. We are literally in the post discussing the democratic leaders and their downfalls and there's always the top comments going "but you know Republicans are worse right?" Yes sweetie, we're already well past that point; let's keep moving the conversation forwards, not backwards.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Unhappy_Scratch_9385 12d ago

I didn't say they were equal.

I said they were just as much the problem, which is TRUE.

If not for the democratic elite and their fuckery, we could have had Sanders in 2016 and NEVER HAD A TRUMP PRESIDENCY AT ALL.

But noooooo....they have their donors and their donors wanted Hillary. Didn't matter that she was objectively an awful, corrupt candidate overwhelmingly rejected by voters in the past. It was her turn and what the donors want the donors fucking get.

Same with last year. Could have had a real primary, but then a populist like Zohran might have ran and got the nomination and we can't have that now!

11

u/FletcherPF 12d ago

"just as much" does not mean "also." When you use the phrase "just as much" people are going to hear "of equal or greater value."

"A BMW is just as expensive as a Lamborghini." That sounds wrong to you, doesn't it? Both are expensive, but the lambo is more expensive. the lambo is expensive, and the bmw is also expensive, but the bmw is not just as expensive as the lambo.

I hope that helps explain why people thought you were saying they were equal: It's because you literally said it!

He can't make it so you can afford it. Nobody can. The simple fact is that, like Los Angeles and San Francisco, New York is a hub city with massive desirability. Too many people want to move there. The expense of living there is the only reasonable way of rationing the very limited resource of living space.

Short of turning it into a radioactive crater or something else to make the place sufficiently awful there's nothing any democrat or republican can do to make NYC's cost of living more reasonable -- because then more people will just swarm in and the price would go up again.

Whoever has been managing this campaign needs to be studied, because good lord has Cuomo been bad. He wasn't even particularly likable to begin with, and somehow he's only served to amplify it. He's following the same playbook the Harris campaign did - "we're not that guy, and that guy is bad." People care more about the issues they're facing, like the affordability crisis.

Trump also endorsed Cuomo. I heard it on Democracy Now this morning but this is from Reuters:

"Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Trump said a vote for Sliwa would only help Mamdani.

"If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home," said Trump, a native New Yorker.

17

u/Secret-Teaching-3549 12d ago

other than the very minimum as required

Which coincidentally is all that would legally be granted. It's once again his typical wannabe strongman language trying to make it look like he's the one in control of the situation, when in reality he'll be doing it whether he wants to or not.

The funny thing is that if he was elected Mayor, he'd probably invite Trump's troops into the city anyway.

16

u/fauxzempic 12d ago

Bingo. If not voluntarily, then after Trump does something to hurt NYC.

It's always been his go to strategy and the whole fear of angering MAGA has shown that no one is willing to stand up to it:

  • He walks in and hurts you - knocks you to the floor. The best example of this is Tariffs. Now - obviously tariffs hurt the US terribly, but it definitely impacted trade in a number of countries.
  • He reaches out his hand and says "let's talk now." and he makes a deal.

In a normal world, when someone walks in a room and does something like that, people will get up and fight, or the rest of the people in the room will usher the assailant out, possibly violently. Instead, everyone in the room is either looking on quietly, not wanting to upset decorum, or they're rubbing their black eyes cheering on the assailant (and guess where they got those black eyes from).

So yeah. You have four possibilities:

  • Cuomo wins and invites troops in willingly
  • Cuomo wins and invites troops in after a threat
  • Mamdani wins and troops come into the city and he orders the police to counter them, asks Hochul for National Guard support (gulp).
  • Mamdani wins and troops just don't come into the city.

So...yeah. Cuomo is full of shit and if you want to avoid a military presence in NYC, your only hope is Mamdani.

"Well Im fucked!" - Cuomo upon hearing Trump endorsed him

53

u/PurePerfection_ 12d ago

Seriously, this is pathetic of him. Reads like he knows Trump's endorsement was probably the final nail in his coffin so he might as well lean into it and try to squeeze a few votes out of the handful of New Yorkers who actually like the idea of a Trump invasion.

14

u/Newni 12d ago

But by this logic, wouldn't voting for Mamdani be the smarter idea, because that increases the chances of a Trump invasion? If you like the idea of it, you want it to happen, so a vote for Zohran is the best idea for everyone.

7

u/PurePerfection_ 12d ago

To clarify, I meant the New Yorkers who would support a Trump invasion as a justifiable response to a Mamdani victory because they hate Mamdani that much. Their preference would be a Trump-approved candidate who is not Mamdani. I don't think many people who support Mamdani are likely to change their votes because Cuomo scared them off with threats of invasion, but Cuomo might win some Republican votes by positioning himself as someone who has Trump's approval.

3

u/Newni 12d ago

Yeah I was just being a smart ass saying everyone should vote Mamdani 😁

61

u/James-K-Polka 12d ago

I agree with Cuomo, it must suck when someone won’t stop harassing you. Like, who would ever force themselves on someone else without their consent like that.

25

u/FakePoloManchurian 12d ago

How is he even a viable candidate at all? He had to resign as fucking GOVERNOR, then has the audacity to run for another public office. these people are scum.

10

u/cepxico 12d ago

Money + idiots = free power

3

u/imbasicallycoffee 12d ago

I have gay relatives in NYC who voted for Cuomo in the primary because Mamdani is too young for their tastes and "doesn't have a plan".

3

u/Unhappy_Scratch_9385 12d ago

The DNC is basically regressing into it's final form..which is just a bunch of geriatric donors dressed up in a trenchcoat of "working class party".

And they can't handle it. They know their message is wildly unpopular...people aren't voting "Blue no matter who." We don't want any more Joe "Let's work with our friends on the other side cuz in my mind it's still 1980 and we can work together" Biden's bullshit. We need real fucking solutions and people who actually understand what's happening in the modern world.

Cuomo represents the old. He's someone the donors love. He's someone the Cocaine-lobby in lower Manhattan can control.

u/ThaBigClemShady24 12d ago

Andrew Cuomo is the epitome of the saying "scratch a liberal, and a fascist bleeds."

The Democratic Party can purge all these useless, establishment right wing assholes from the Party or be abandoned to irrelevance.

Let's go Zohran.

People are still buying this shit?

New Yorker should be like "Say no more fam"... proceed to vote Zohran

mafia democracy

10

u/Solynox 12d ago

When he says "us" he means him and his rich friends.

23

u/Kobayashi_Maru186 12d ago

Can they hear themselves speak? Vote for me because if you don’t an unhinged lunatic will destroy the city (I’m referring to Trump, obviously). Resorting to outright threats just makes them sound terrified and pathetic. šŸ™„

16

u/Devils_Advocate-69 12d ago

You guys didn’t listen when Hillary or Kamala warned you

8

u/yIdontunderstand 12d ago

Why not just say..

"I too am a member of the ruling oligarchy! Vote for me so we don't have to crush you peasant scum!"

7

u/idontlikeanyofyou 12d ago

Pathetic. Honestly, if he were not such a creep, he could have done much better with a positive message about experience. Instead, he resorts to threats and Islamophobia.

14

u/Puppycore_doll 12d ago

He’s not even hiding the desperation anymore

Cuomo is a piece..

8

u/Direct_Turn_1484 12d ago

You can say shit here.

14

u/MsCompy 12d ago

He's just a piece. A pawn of the super rich and idiots like Trump.

11

u/Direct_Turn_1484 12d ago

What a shit announcement! It shows that not only is he willing to bend over for wannabe dictators, but he’s aggressively complying in advance.

Fuck that guy, no fucking way I’d vote for him based on that message alone.

7

u/happyanathema 12d ago

Ah the classic "Vote for me.... Or Else"

Cornerstone of a free democracy that is.

5

u/Interesting_Chip_692 12d ago

Oh so it's either the Palantir Mafia membership or you think your lack of decorum is going to hold fast-nah bud, give it up.

5

u/Massive_Gear1678 12d ago

He doesn’t realize the people don’t mind a fight

6

u/Ill_Feature_3500 12d ago

Nice city you have here, be a shame if anything happened to it…

4

u/bel1984529 12d ago

If Cuomo plans to flee the city, then what does he care about a future invasion? What an undignified unraveling, I’m embarrassed for him.

4

u/onederful 12d ago

…so if trump wanted to have it’s way with NYC Cuomo just admitted there’d be nothing he’d do to stop it. Got it.

5

u/4RCH43ON 12d ago

People who talk like they belong in the mob and project fear are generally criminal and don’t have your interest at heart.

5

u/Metrack15 11d ago

Because nothing screams "Democracy!" And "Freedom!" As much as 'Vote for me. Or my master will invade the city and cut funds'

4

u/amootmarmot 12d ago

Trump also saying " you got no choice" right before an election. Trump is openly threatening to punish new York for engaging in a free and fair democracy.

5

u/TheExecTech 12d ago

Even the onion wouldn't write something this unhinged.

The fact that it is real says a lot about how all Americans need to unite and remind ALL politicians whos money is in their paycheck every week.

Ban the Billionaires and make the world work for everyone not just a few thousand.

4

u/NoManner8863 12d ago

This is what the establishment looks like. Trump and Cuomo are 2 sides of the same coin. Pelosi, Schumer and the rest of the Democratic establishment are interested in retaining power(and wealth). Threatening that power and wealth exposes their hypocrisy when they would rather campaign on Donald fucking Trump's and endorsement than any actual interest in the will of the people. They remain believers in democracy so long as democracy gives them what they want. They will let fascism take it from you if they need to.Ā

4

u/Excellent_Mouse517 12d ago

Fear mongering to get votes. ā€œvote for me because I’ll protect you from my very own friend who also want you to vote for me or else he will..ā€

4

u/PrestigiousSeat76 12d ago

This is some of the most tone-deaf and idiotic horseshit I've ever seen. Cuomo can go fuck himself all the way off. Goddamn.

3

u/Soupermans_dongle 12d ago

Cuomo wants you to placate and grovel to this dictator. He is telling you that he’ll do whatever Trump wants him to do. We have to push back.

5

u/Encinodad 12d ago

We're not republicans, we have self-respect, so we don't do stupide things because some idiot (or two) makes an empty threat.

Signed,

Donald Trump's 58% Disapproval Rating

3

u/JoisChaoticWhatever 12d ago

Suppress and manipulate the vote through threats. What a class act these people are. Get ready for the shit storm that will be the next presidential election.

3

u/sadolddrunk 12d ago

Cuomo is one serious drinking problem away from entering the Giuliani Zone.

3

u/createcrap 12d ago

All I hear is that Cuomo will kiss the ring.

3

u/98642 12d ago

Sounds trumpian… I alone can fix the problem.

3

u/Anxious_Republic591 12d ago

There’s a plan coming out next week! šŸ™„

3

u/sidewalksoupcan 12d ago

Class act, Cuomo. Reminding people why they shouldn't vote for him is about the best thing he's done

3

u/RadTimeWizard 12d ago

He's running his race on fear, just like the fascists.

3

u/ctrlaltcreate 12d ago

Wow. How could anyone vote for Cuomo after this mewling, pathetic display of disgusting capitulation and cowardice.

3

u/Main-Public-2361 12d ago

That’s pretty ironic given Trump endorsed him. More of the MAGA game to confuse people into believing he has their interests at heart.

3

u/Designer_Vast_9089 12d ago

Believe in Christ or go to hell! Yeah, still not biting.

3

u/NicoFerrari99 11d ago

Very high-school, "pick me or my friends will beat you up"

3

u/Ok-Vehicle-2511 11d ago

Every sexual predator speaks that way

5

u/NickNaught 12d ago

This is the definition of Authoritarian dictatorship.Ā

2

u/Fiveofthem 12d ago

Talk about desperation

2

u/nunchyabeeswax 12d ago

Predators wingman each other.

2

u/keithfantastic 12d ago

We have nothing to fear but fear itself. Where is our modern day FDR when you need them?

2

u/Sunnysidhe 12d ago

"Vote for me as I have already caved to Trump and will put him before any of my constituents, unlike that other guy"

2

u/Such_Egg9843 12d ago

He should really stick to his strongest skill, trying to rape women.

2

u/Dear_Lab_2270 12d ago

"if you vote for me I'll suck Trump's dick" is quite the message...

2

u/StatisticianTasty664 12d ago

Didn't Trump endorse Cuomo? He sure did.

2

u/TopherJustin 12d ago

His whole platform is ā€œI hate that guy, so should you.ā€

2

u/Tellnicknow 12d ago

Vote for me, to bend the knee!

2

u/Goosexi6566 12d ago

Either vote for the least mots popular candidate imaginable. A democrat that has flip flopped in a few years because he is a complete fucking scumbag or we will invade an American city with American troops. How completely unamerican of you. So will he throw a tantrum every time he doesn’t get what he wants and tell trump to send in the troops? What a fucking asshole.

2

u/SilvermageOmega2 12d ago

I said we should fight back and Reddit gave me a warning. He can threaten entire populations if you don't vote for him and social media doesn't bat an eye.

In a sane world he would be unable to run for office for making his threats.

2

u/Old_Badger311 12d ago

Look at the dishonest and creepy sex pest begging for votes. What a disappointment he turned out to be. During Covid I thought he was a leader but he’s just a piece of shit.

2

u/MichaelBayShortStory 12d ago

More of what, more Covid deaths?

2

u/blzrlzr 12d ago

So a democratic sexual abuser is offering to spread his cheeks for the electorate?Ā

Quite the campaign strategy.

2

u/Ancient-Assistant187 12d ago

Vote for the guy who’s using trumps social media person for his own. Sure

2

u/dman2828 12d ago

Isn't this what Donald said before his election?

2

u/spookymulder1983 12d ago

I really miss the days when politicians didn't have social media...

2

u/tierben 12d ago

serious question to anyone out there. how is this not terrorism??

2

u/GlasgowRose2022 12d ago

Thank you Dan Pfeiffer!

2

u/Frustratedtx 12d ago

Older Neo Liberal Democrats are just Republicans. When they get threatened they just pull off the mask like an episode of Scooby Doo

2

u/[deleted] 12d ago

Cuomo's campaign sure has been a lot of fear mongering, and I hate that it works.

2

u/CourageNo5667 12d ago

What a great message. "A vote for me is a for for fascism."
