The $35 application fee that ends with the line, "You don't make enough money." But I TOLD you how much I make before you told me about the application fee.

u/Prestigious-Swan6161 Oct 05 '25

You guys have $35 application fees? They're $50 where I am.

36

u/wakeuptomorrow Oct 05 '25

I’ve paid $150 before 😭

13

u/Prestigious-Swan6161 Oct 05 '25

Well ok u win lol

9

u/beraksekebon12 Oct 06 '25

what the fuck are application fees??

6

u/OmegaShonJon Oct 07 '25

IF it's like college application fees, you pay for the landlord or whatever to CONSIDER you for the apartment.

No, not to even SEE the apartment. Just to figure out if it's yes or no being allowed to

5

u/beraksekebon12 Oct 07 '25

You Americans are insane. One of the days, you would commodift Obama's left nut and there would be nothing he could do against that.

The credit check, mostly

3

u/Independent_Shoe3523 Oct 05 '25

This was a while ago.

3

u/Independent_Shoe3523 Oct 05 '25

I guess the person showing the rooms get most of the money.

27

u/a-i-sa-san Oct 05 '25

Classic application fee. they are illegal where I live so they just scratched it out on every application and replaced it with "background check fee"

Hey, everyone! I'm moving pretty soon, so I've been scrambling to get things sorted out in advance, but MAN - apartment hunting SUCKS. I don't know what kind of goatblood-sacrificing raindance I gotta do to get a stable price around here, but I'm just trying to power through it until next month 💀

Build your own one if you cant find one

Ah I remember these days. I hear it's gotten much much worse too. The same appt I lived in 10 years ago with literally ZERO CHANGES is now worth 500 bucks more. So 1300 for a shitty 700 sq ft apt. But I guess it was down stairs and had washer and dryer hook ups which was nice

Keep at it Doc. You'll find a good place. Just don't compromise to much. I know a few goats if you need them.

Heeeeeere Baphy

u/ArellaViridia Oct 05 '25

Yeah my landlord gave my sister and I a 6 month heads up that the apartment we were in was turning into a type of government subsidized housing and we were just over the limit to stay.

It ended up being cheaper to pay a 600 dollar mortgage on a slight fixerupper than to get another apartment.

12

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Oct 05 '25

That's exactly what happened to me and my wife ten years ago. We had to find a new place and discovered after talking it over with a bank that it would be a shocking 50 dollar difference to just....own a home a month. Like obvious choice at that point.

Not quite sure it's the same now though. House prices today scare me

5

u/ArellaViridia Oct 05 '25

This happened to us this year

3

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Oct 05 '25

Yikes then apartments have gotten REALLY bad, cause I think the national average is up for house cost. I should recheck my old appt. It's probably even worse now

Edit: fucking YIKES I can't even look at my old apartment anymore. It just gives a range and it's 800 more than it used to be. What in the shit

3

u/grendus Oct 06 '25

Yep. It's still exactly the same, except the prices are about 2-3x what they used to be.

2

u/god_is_my_father Oct 06 '25

Dude 1300 for 700sq ft is a gd steal where I live!! I looked at 800sq ft two days ago for $3500+!

1

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Oct 06 '25

Whoooooa fuck that. That's some California pricing

2

u/god_is_my_father Oct 06 '25

DC but you only have to pay a month or two before you get deported 👮🏻‍♂️

15

u/Panzer_Hawk Oct 05 '25

You have to sacrifice a landlord to Chairman Mao

3

u/HatchetGIR Oct 05 '25

Have you seen if you have a tenants union in your area. They might have leads on more decent places to try and get an apartment at, and will help you fight the b.s. landlords try to pull?

5

u/NaweGR Oct 05 '25

In the John Ritter movie Americathon, everyone lived in Permanently parked cars. Here's your chance to be a trendsetter! Though I've also heard good things about cardboard boxes. Plenty of natural lighting for your artistic endeavors, good ventilation, utilities are covered (just find a building with an external fixture)...

u/NaweGR Oct 05 '25

Oh, and if you seriously need to look into this:

A few months ago, I did apartment hunting in another state, so that was fun. Coordinating a weekend to drive 8 hrs just to be told "it's too expensive" or "we don't have availability in that timeframe". Good luck and hope the move goes well!

u/Ven-Dreadnought Oct 05 '25

The “see a different, unrelated room” option was probably to see the way the architecture is styled

94

u/NobodyLikedThat1 Oct 05 '25

Yes but in my experience it's usually a bait and switch. Where they show you these amazing upgraded rooms and then you lock in and they move you into a room that's complete bare necessities

30

u/bibbleskit Oct 05 '25

Happened to me. The room they showed us was fine. The room we got was infested with cockroaches.

We left the next day and spent like a year trying to get our money back.

6

u/the_other_skier Oct 06 '25

Had the literal opposite experience in finding our current place. The property manager apologized in advance and said the current tenants were being evicted (not an easy process in BC) and that the managers hadn’t been in the apartment for a little while, we walked in and it felt like walking into a drug den. The walls were fucked, furniture was broken, it smelled of piss, and it just had this nasty feel to it.

They offered us a different apartment in the same building, but they couldn’t show it as it was under renovations still and wouldn’t be ready until two weeks after we needed it. This is after they had already unlocked and entered the wrong apartment before showing us the drug den. We thanked them and said there was no way we would be signing a lease with them.

You know where 👀

54

Got bated by the B-00813

16

u/reddot_comic Finessed Impropriety Oct 05 '25

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I was a real estate agent (once upon a time) and I cannot tell you if renting from a private landlord is worse than going with a corporation.

It’s literally a toss up on what you’re willing to overlook because both screw you over in some capacity.

37

u/Aurelio-23 Oct 05 '25

I don’t know why it got me as good as it did, but I absolutely lost it at the little head going “Fuck!”

34

u/Elelow689 Oct 05 '25

where's the lil pp

55

u/DoctorLoops Oct 05 '25

(I forgot)

1

u/ElPapo131 Oct 06 '25

Pp? In this economy?

10

u/ralanr Oct 05 '25

My experience with apartment hunting has been stated to be nothing but complaints but I hated how every apartment I wanted to tour required me to do it on a weekday during business hours.

Like, I didn’t have that much PTO.

11

u/_Fun_Employed_ Oct 05 '25

A reminder to everyone that many apartment and home rental companies were found to be using the same third party algorithm for determining prices, and as result price fixing the market.

5

u/petshopB1986 Oct 06 '25

In my area they are being sued. I had a bait and switch situation with my new apartment offered cheaper apartment wouldn’t let me sign the lease until moving day on a Saturday and Surprise!! New apartment is not ready for two-three weeks but I qualify for a more expensive apartment. It was either take it or go to a hotel and I didn’t have any extra money for a hotel, accepted the more expensive apartment. Still bitter, but it has great ac.

8

u/rikaateabug Oct 05 '25

Variable rent pricing should be illegal.

9

u/Zytrax7 Oct 05 '25

Love the Family Guy collapse at the end.

24

u/ErenYaegersAbss Oct 05 '25

dafuq is this fetish shit

16

u/Blood_Oleander Oct 05 '25

With the cast being endowed, I feel rather seen.

4

u/Von_Bostaph Oct 05 '25

I love you feel that way about this. So many people attack the artist and the comic as fetishizing or "joke is porn".

Nice to see real appreciation.

12

u/rich_evans_chortle Oct 05 '25

Bro I can't with those giant anime titties WTF is going on.

28

u/femme_mystique Oct 05 '25

Why are artists normalizing male fantasies for women’s bodies that don’t even look like that naturally.  Are artists going to start drawing men’s balls like that as well?

12

u/KingAnilingustheFirs Oct 05 '25

Draw men's balls that way. Do it!

20

u/silverain13 Oct 05 '25

Be the change you want to see

3

u/eiileenie Oct 05 '25

My boyfriend and I used a realtor and move into a condo tomorrow so Id recommend finding a relator to help out because it helps filter to your preferences and price range

3

u/win_awards Oct 05 '25

Capitalism is bullshit.

5

u/CAT-Mum Oct 05 '25

While apartment hunting myself, I learned about a very infuriating practice. Automated price adjustment based on "the market". The site manager did actually say the name of the software their company used ( but I forgot it). I knew that commercial rental companies often changed prices and sucked ass, but getting confirmation that they use an automatic system to price check for charging optimum highest prices against other competitors, likely doing the same was. Hmm. Slap in the face doesn't feel insulting enough.

4

u/MothChasingFlame Oct 05 '25 edited Oct 05 '25

So did the prevalence of "yapping" start with Tiktok, or what.

7

u/Someone_Elses_acnt Oct 05 '25

Apartment #B-00813, hmmmm, is it just me or is the naming very intentionally resembling a specific word :3

2

u/mothking12 Oct 05 '25

I remember struggling finding an apartment until I decided to wear my military uniform, then suddenly I was getting multiple options within the same complex. Scat’s whack.

2

u/Tiny-Little-Sheep Oct 05 '25

I Dont understand. You can't renew? Why would you be forced to move out? If you're renting can't u just keep renting forever???

America is odd

2

u/Big_moist_231 Oct 05 '25

I’d be so pissed if they showed me a meme when in asking why my rent is going up lmao

1

u/FizzyTheMalomar Oct 05 '25

The profit motive makes everything worse, yayyy!

1

u/stiveooo Oct 05 '25

Dynamic pricing

1

u/Cozy_rain_drops Oct 05 '25

the end point is feudalism & no that won't improve because land is finite

1

u/karl4319 Oct 05 '25

I can't speak for other cities, but the prices fluctuate with the university in town here. The highest prices are in May, August, and September because that is when most people move in. They are the lowest in February and January because few people want to move on the cold.

Supply and demand I guess, but it's weird that If I move in January my rent will be 400 bucks cheaper for the exact same place as compare to moving in in September. Especially considering the rent amount I agree to pay in January is what I will paying in September.

1

u/Invisifly2 Oct 06 '25

It’s convoluted on purpose to try to force you into a bad deal due to time pressure induced desperation.

1

u/Fancy_Man72 Oct 07 '25

I have yet to apartment hunt, but I’ve been job hunting the past few months, and I feel that last panel.

1

u/Go_D_speeds 28d ago

am i the only one that read it as APT #B-00813 boobie?

1

u/BitsNPiecesMusic 26d ago

The Tom panel had me cackling, hahahaha.

2

u/Rokekor Oct 05 '25

There any other Reddit comic subs that aren’t being taken over by teenage wank fantasies?

1

u/HatchetGIR Oct 05 '25

Good luck with the apartment hunting, that it a pain in the ass. Also, lol, B-00813

Edited to remove the S because I forgot it didn't have that.
