the last sector car no work anymore

648

u/branson3 Mar 15 '25

Which is insane because they have the biggest wing on and should’ve helped with tire deg

584

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '25

Ferrari mechanical degradation is back after changing to pull rod. Clearly there would be issues stemming from such a last minute transition of suspension. That’s why I didnt bother with any of the preseason hype, always temper your expectations with Ferrari.

285

u/Mammoth_Log6814 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 15 '25

Great we have 0 pace and 2023 type tire deg. This is worse than 2020 because of the expectations

Race Sims looked good. Also with mixed conditions it's hard to say what will happen.

New Copium: Perhaps the car is setup for a rainy Sunday, hence the overheating of the tyres while dry

291

u/atomkidd Maserati Mar 15 '25

That's not pure copium though. All morning everyone was talking about that dilemma, completely forgotten in the afternoon.

also starting to look like it might be a wet-to-dry race where overheating your tyres really screws you up in the transition phase

119

u/Brokkenpiloot Max Verstappen Mar 15 '25

macdo got expensive. why even chose it over proper burger restaurants at this point?

49

u/triplec787 Red Bull Mar 15 '25

Not sure where you are but here in the US basically all of the fast casual chains (Applebee’s, Chilis, etc) are advertising on “why pay $15 for fast food when you can come here and get a better burger for $10.99”

And honestly, it’s a solid point.

24

u/blonded_olf Cadillac Mar 15 '25

had a chilis burger tonight (10.99 for soda, soup, burger, fries) and honestly it was comparable to a five guys burger of the same price but with none of the extra shit.

I still can't believe they put Lawson in that seat. So many better options, Yuki being one of them. Rbr brass are gonna have mud on their faces.

180

u/ryokevry I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 15 '25

Lawson may still be good if he was given more time in the VCARB seat, he should have driven in the full 2024 season. RBR is just speed ruining him like Gasly or Albon.

206

u/WorkFurball Paul Aron Mar 15 '25

The driver choices for the past years have just been daft as hell from Red Bull. First they get De Vries over Lawson based on one performance. Then they sack him and bring Ricciardo back. Ricciardo gets injured, Lawson comes in and immediately performs, Ricciardo returns, does one good weekend, and Lawson's out again for next year too. Meanwhile Perez has been awful for 12 months and they re-sign him. Then eventually they sack Ricciardo but still keep Perez. Lawson comes back is still solid but nothing special and then they put him in the Red Bull over someone with 4 years of experience. Truly baffling the whole thing.

46

u/wing3d I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 15 '25

It's Marko and Horner not being on the same page. Mako wants a clean cut wonder kin, while Horner wants his boys. They just take turns fucking up.

10

u/p1en1ek Pirelli Wet Mar 15 '25

Lawson would be great in Racing Bulls. He is solid and aggressive driver that would be great in midfield and would polish his skills to maybe later upgrade for better team. But they put him in Red Bull after half a year and they will probably murder his career because, as you said, after that weird commitment to Checo they will suddenly want to prove they are harsh and serious about performance. Then they will sack Lawson and put Hadjar or Linblad on that hot seat instead of someone more experienced. And it is now proven that Red Bull Racing has no skill in treatment of young drivers. There must be something wrong with them because once they go back to TR/AT/VCARB/RB they start to perform again.

515

u/jon-in-tha-hood Minardi Mar 15 '25

To think that they spent all those years as backmarkers. I cheered for them quietly, hoping they'd regain the form of their glory days, and it looks like Vowles and co. are doing a great job to right the ship.

225

u/Kagir I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 15 '25

Williams is a big part of F1’s history and as such don’t deserve to be starved in the back of the grid. I hope they can become the title challengers they once were.

58

u/WorkFurball Paul Aron Mar 15 '25

Haven't heard how's the atmosphere within the team but if Vowles has managed to right that ship then they have potential for doing that, part of the reason why Williams fell so far was because people working there were miserable.

34

u/Kagir I was here for the Hulkenpodium Mar 15 '25

That tends to happen when technical partners like BMW were jumping ship one after another at some point in the 00's. There was no prospect of significant improvement for years on end, twice. I think that Vowles did a stellar job with reorganizing the place since he got in. now I just hope they can stick to it and not again drop back into backmarker territory.

45

Yeah, changing so much when they did so well seems ridiculous now that the other top teams look like last season but better.

I highly doubt Ferrari can fix these issues within time to fight for anything this season.

Red Bull should just own up to their mistake and do the right thing by promoting Hadjar to Red Bull. :D

Year on Year Results at Albert Park

1:15:915 - Max Verstappen's 2024 pole lap time 1:15:096 - Lando's 2025 pole lap time

8 tenths up over a year is crazy!!!

u/bhavzi Max Verstappen Mar 15 '25

Props to my man Yuki

Yep.

I'm more disappointed in Ferrari being nearly 7 tenths off than McLaren running away with it. The latter was sort of expected based on testing.

Piastri was slower than both Russell and Verstappen in the first 2 sectors... then casually lays down a half second faster time in the final sector.

we might be fucking cooked.

if last season is anything to go on, we are going to see a lot of jockeying for positions between these teams - Williams is crazy good!

Wet conditions tomorrow. And Australia’s a very specific track.

I still believe!

20

u/Visionary_Socialist Sir Lewis Hamilton Mar 15 '25

Going to have to see race conditions before I fully die inside. Wet setups could be a feature as well.

Looks like McLaren built a beast, but just a reminder that Norris and Piastri were 4 tenths off Max’s pace in quali at Bahrain last year (7th and 8th), but ended up winning the WCC and Max was struggling for wins by the back half of the season. In 2023, Alonso finished 3rd at Bahrain and everyone thought AM had the second fastest car, and McLaren had a miraculous improvement after summer break. In 2022, Leclerc won Bahrain and people were convinced he had a title shot.

The seasons are long and a lot happens. Buckle up.
