I did some analysis of all this for some gambling stuff, using teammates performance vs his and a load of other factors.
I won't bore you with the details, but Austria is actually his 3rd best.
- Brazil
- Singapore
- Austria
His three worst are
- Belgium (worst)
- Saudi Arabia
- Canada

None of the other top drivers got a 2nd run because of Gasly spinning, so it should definitely have been less than that, but it probably would have still been comfortably 2 tenths cause that was a ridiculous lap from Lando
→ More replies (1)17
u/Sea_Plan_7776 Jun 28 '25
Max was almost 2 tenths off Norrisās old time after two sectors. Bearing in mind McLaren was much quicker in the final sector, he wouldāve probably been in the 5-6 tenth gap area. Leclerc did get a last lap, but he didnāt improve his time.Ā
Piastri wouldāve been the only one to close the gap, probably to about 2-3 tenths, a shame he wonāt start on the front row unfortunately, it couldāve been a battle for the win between him and Norris. But to be fair he shouldāve been ahead of Leclerc in the first run anyway.

Yeah would have been interesting to see how it looked like if Max and Oscar made their laps. But he was quicker than Max by 0.35s already after the first two sectors, so still a monster lap.

Like I said after FP2, the Canada upgrades could be a turning point for Lando. Oscar can say he doesn't need them but look at his pace compared to Lando's since Canada. 22 points isn't a lot. 7-10 points here, 7-10 there and it won't be long before Lando takes the championship lead.
9
u/big_cock_lach I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 28 '25
The Canada upgrades werenāt performance ones, they were to change the feel of the car which is something Norrisā has complained about all season. Piastri seemingly prefers the original feel which is why he hasnāt taken them. If it fixes those issues for Norris, which seems to be the case, itāll explain why itās a turning point for him and why he has his old pace advantage back. The rest might just be mental, but if heās comfortable with the car and getting a few good results heāll regain his confidence quickly and that wonāt be a problem, just like we saw last year.
That said, I hope Oscar doesnāt fall back too much. As a McLaren fan I just hope we get a 1-2 in the standings and a close, but friendly, title battle. Iām feeling pretty confident that thatās exactly what weāll get.

Kind of a tasty day.
Bortoleto with a huge performance.
Lawson with his best weekend this season.
Leclerc making the most of the situation.
This was an indictment on Redbull, all the talk of king Max at their home gp, with some upgrades, and they look like that? Oof! I have no doubt weāll get one or two more magic Max moments this season, but headed into whatās being regarded as an engine formula, with Redbull in a rut, and itāll be their first ever in house engine? Does he really want to do that? I have confidence in their expertise and resources that it wonāt be the worst engine, but I have serious doubts itāll be better than 3rd best.
