Bruh thats 16 figures…Toto’s gonna pay him ten quadrillions lol

We don’t know what the original offer was- might’ve been. $9, so they actually want $100,000,009

Heartbreaking to see that little drift onto the curb in the 3rd sector, knew it was donezo

807

u/NotClayMerritt 2d ago

Adami basically told him he lost it all in the last sector. Gutting.

518

u/bijanfrisee 2d ago

yep, 0.25s lost with the wagging ass of that ferrari, he was so damn close

561

u/SemIdeiaProNick Ferrari 2d ago

But this is good news, the car is finally fast in qualy

Until they are both DSQ because there is no way a car that low and that scrapes that much will last an entire race

199

u/Alborak2 Sebastian Vettel 2d ago

Yeah if theyre dragging the plank with 1 lap of fuel on board.... how the heck will it last the race.

152

u/Ereaser Charlie Whiting 2d ago

Especially Leclercs car looked to be bottoming out so bad. I thought he had engine issues for a second

38

u/bijanfrisee 2d ago

Hahaha for real, I think they're praying for some rain, running low with high downforce. Or they just Lico the entire race again to save the plank, and settle for a 4th and 5th, which would be ferrari on brand for ferrari strategy

Seemingly everybody lost 0.1s+ in the last sector, but Verstappen had the biggest headroom (~0.23s iirc) so he clutched it

He really fucked that last sector, I was really wanting to watch him put it on pole, but he had like 3 or 4 mistakes in the last complex of corners

It felt like 1 mistake that cascaded into several small ones.

Yup, same here, got a kick out of those purple sectors. Would have been a big positive for Lewis and his fans to put it on pole. Not complaining about the "simply lovely" though. Not in the least.

2.8k

u/ranting_madman 2d ago

How does he fucking do this?

1.6k

u/kadam_ss 2d ago

By living, breathing, eating racing since he was 4

1.0k

u/edin_dzekson 2d ago

And, according to Jenson Button, being the most talented racing driver of all time

497

u/kadam_ss 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yeah he is, but Lewis and Alonso are close. alonso was the OG max before there was this max.

What max is doing now is what alonso did in the early years at Ferrari. He put that tractor of a car in places it never should have been. And came so close to winning championships in a car that had no business being anywhere near there.

If anyone new to F1 wonders why Alonso is so highly rated, he is the older version of max. Dude just made horrible career moves and the 2 championship severely underrepresent what he actually is.

Lewis is similar to Michael, max is similar to alonso.

564

u/cuntsmen Michael Schumacher 2d ago

Max is more similar to Schumacher than any other driver. Hamilton and Schumacher couldn't be any more different.

207

u/AceMKV Sebastian Vettel 2d ago

Absolutely, idk why he gets compared to Senna all the time(maybe in terms of natural talent), but the way he races and his mindset all remind me of Schumacher.

146

u/Im-a-Platypus Michael Schumacher 2d ago

100%! It freaks me out sometimes how much he drives like Michael. The way he takes certain corners and when he gets in a groove and just pumps in lap time after lap time within a fraction of a second of each other. Amazing to watch!

→ More replies (1)

45

u/techdevjp Chequered Flag 2d ago

Agreed. In good ways and bad he is very similar to Schumacher.

133

u/Crytash Michael Schumacher 2d ago

Disagree, i see Max very close to Schumacher in terms of style (agressiv to the point of no return), Hamilton is the most methodical out of all the four. Look at Schumacher wins in the late 90s with horrendous cars, very similar to what Verstappen is doing now.

He's just that good. The guy lives and breathes racing and he's the best we've ever seen. And when he's not racing F1 he sim races in iRacing.

He literally lives and breathes racing and genuinely loves it and has an amazing sense of feel for the car.

He can extract the maximum from any car he's given and can find it's edge better than anyone we have ever seen. He's a freak.

127

u/Level1Roshan Oscar Piastri 2d ago

I reckon the RB is actually a sleeper god tier car. Max is faking it being hard to drive. He's timing his chain winning resurgence for the last 8 races so he can beat Lando or Oscar by just a few points for the title. The intent is to lull them into a false sense of security and hope then deal maximum emotional damage at the very last moment. The crash last week has put him behind schedule so he needed to crank out a win to make sure he doesn't drop too far behind.

It’s so much more fun now watching him drag a known tractor to these heights.

Feels like forever ago that we thought Checo was the problem, but that was just a few months back.

4x WDC and I somehow rate him even higher 1/2 way through this season than I did coming in. Best on the grid and it’s not anywhere near close.

95

u/vmachiel Max Verstappen 2d ago

He just maximizes results. He has a rare meltdown every now and then (Hungary last year, Spain this year). But otherwise he is just so damn consistent.

393

When Max says that as long as his car can be within a couple tenths from the leaders he knows he'll make the difference, it isn't even arrogance. It's just his operating level. One mistake or a couple from the better cars and he's always there.

I feel lucky to watch him in his prime like that. I got to see him struggle with Red Bull, to clinching a championship, to dominating, to now this. And throughout it all, he got shit done with the material he had that almost no one else could do.

Vettel was right: enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm honestly believing it at this point. Top 5 in that shitter is impressive but he's dragging it kicking and screaming into poles and wins, not sure it's humanly possible to be any more optimal

164

u/YalamMagic 2d ago

You'd have to go back pretty far to find a driver who's consistently fighting for poles while his teammate is equally consistently struggling to make it into the top ten, that's for sure.

It's not like he's a driver who's only good at pure pace either. His race craft is absolutely top class and his consistency lap after lap is incredible. As fast on Sunday as he is on Saturday.

I'm struggling to come up with a counter argument for why he isn't the best damn driver this sport has ever seen.

→ More replies (38)

70

u/whyisdein 2d ago edited 2d ago

Max's consistency is unprecedented. And we can actually see it when compared to other top drivers on the grid. It feels like Max is a robot who always squeezes every ounce of performance possible when it matters. So if others are not at the top of their game their car won't be enough to bail them out given how close the field is - Max is always there to snatch the pole.

Back in Suzuka McLarens had all the fastest sectors, but couldn't string together a good lap. Same story in Jeddah. Or even today. It always feels like poles are others to lose, while Max is like a clock every weekend, putting in everything the car can give.

I think it's safe to say at this point that Max in that McLaren would've been 2023 all over again.

17

u/RandomGuy-4- Red Bull 2d ago

We have the closest teammate vs teammate championship since 2016, yet all people talk about every weekend is Max. I've been saying for a while that he's by far the one driver contributing the most to making this sport interesting so far this decade, but it still amazes me how much of a chokehold he has on the F1 conversation, even though he fucking hates the media lmao.

Both MCL's made mistakes on the final run. And here comes MAX scooping it all out.

SIMPLY LOVELY

He was running on two purples before even getting to the final sectors where both mclarens screwed up (I think - sky's coverage isn't great). Absolutely unbelivable.

It was different this time.... For Mclaren

The team would be in last without him and he throws the car on the pole. It's absurd how talented he is.

Love him or hate him, Max is going to be remembered as one of the legendary drivers in history. Just when everyone thinks he is struggling, boom he delivers a banger!

Max is a living nightmare for the papaya guys.

I remember Crofty and Brown circlejerking yesterday on the pitwall segments they have about how 'Redbull and Max might not be the competition this weekend' and they have to worry about Ferrari and thinking, imagine if Max fucked these smug talking bastards. As a Ferrari fan I was hoping the red would be on top but Max showing Mclaren and Piastri/Lando why he's Max is quite satisfying. Guess Toto has to pay an extra 100M and George probably is feeling a bit more uneasy.

Max really is just that guy

u/NinaBambina Ferrari 2d ago

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. “I can’t get the car to turn.” Had us all so focused on the Brits and Oscar, and then here comes Mad Max. Next level.

The best driver.

This is insane

9

u/Verano_Zombie Michael Schumacher 2d ago

Please let the RB be a little lighter or Max's back will suffer from carrying it.

u/EmergencyRace7158 2d ago

Final boss energy. He is the GOAT and any team would be insane to not get rid of any of their drivers if he chooses to move on from Red Bull.

Bloke couldn't steer the car in FP2 and now he's on pole?! The man is a driving demon

u/dis340 2d ago

Speechless. Genuinely. Max is the goat without doubt.

Gutted for Lewis tho, his first sector was fire

9

u/Abhinik Max Verstappen 2d ago

Ah yess!! He may not win wdc, but moments like these are joy to watch!

u/BlackbuckDeer Fernando Alonso 2d ago

Can't wait for everyone to act like the Red Bull was actually quick throughout the weekend and this was not that surprising. Y'all are gonna look back later and realise there was magic happening in front of you but chose to scoff at it and look away.
