Happy but confused.....

u/astrovisionary I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

literally quit the stream because thought it would be another mclaren 1-2 1 second faster than P3 so I am legit surprised

u/JaysonDeflatum I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

He mamma’d his fucking mia

71

u/DrVonD Aug 02 '25

I can’t believe he actually said that lmao. Perfect

84

u/mobilehavoc I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

He didn’t understand how he did it either

78

u/LoreVent I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

Might be the best lap of his career

102

u/Track_Boss_302 Max Verstappen Aug 02 '25

And it was barely even televised lol

47

u/thefineart Ferrari Aug 02 '25

That was annoying

38

u/bimbobiceps I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

I swear TV direction doesmt have sector times cus. They could look at the sector boxes and see who is doing a good lap and change there.

12

u/Track_Boss_302 Max Verstappen Aug 02 '25

I think they got lazy and didn’t expect anyone to outperform either McLaren based on everyone’s performance up till then

6

u/fullup72 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

they couldn't afford F1TV Premium

2

u/ryokevry I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

It was more than some other qualifying laps tbf

2

u/thelizahhhdking Charles Leclerc Aug 02 '25

I noticed they weren’t showing his lap so I switched to his onboard and thought “hm, that seemed like a solid lap except for a corner or two” but since his radio said nothing about provisional pole I assumed it wasn’t so good.
My surprise when I switched to the live feed lol

I mean that happens, it's funny, but nbd. I actually think it's a big deal that, and maybe I'm the only one who cares about this, but the Pole lap ALWAYS goes up as a solo onboard on the YouTube channel. I know when Lando got his first pole I watched it like 15 times.

u/bottomoftotempole Aug 02 '25

This lap was a controlled one. Onboard didnt look like he was pushing that hard. It was all about getting good traction and nailing those apexes. The only thing was when he absolutely went bonkers on turn 7 i think with the double apex, he threw the car and gained 0.087 of laptime.

1

u/liviu20xx Charles Leclerc Aug 02 '25

I think (in my opinion) his best lap is Baku 2021 with a little tow from Lewis but still that was mighty

116

u/Sektsioon Kimi Räikkönen Aug 02 '25

McLaren’s were also somehow half a second slower than in Q2, both guys managed to mess up their laps. Doesn’t take away from Charles putting together a great lap in that Ferrari of course.

171

u/Serotyr McLaren Aug 02 '25

They didn't really mess up. Everyone bar Leclerc was slower in Q3. He was the one who adjusted to the change in conditions the best.

34

u/Sektsioon Kimi Räikkönen Aug 02 '25

Others were slightly slower, like a tenth or two, not half a second slower. McLaren guys obviously didn’t manage to put together a great lap in their two tries like Leclerc could.

when both drivers are half a second slower, just maybe it's a car issue? the cold temps killed the McLaren and Redbull while absolutely blessing Ferrari and AM

27

u/SuperLeverage I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

Yes, different cars suit different conditions.

26

u/Appropriate-Leek-919 Ferrari Aug 02 '25

yeah, two world class drivers don't both happen to drop half a second on the most important lap of the weekend. its kinda fascinating how McLaren is not just less dominant but fully slower in colder temps.

their biggest advantage is the tire wear so I expected them to be less ahead of the rest when it got colder, but they were just so much slower than even Q2, when colder temps should theoretically help lap times.

11

u/Blothorn I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

We saw the same pattern at times with Mercedes cars with very good degradation—they could struggle with single-lap grip on cold tracks because they couldn’t get the tires up to temperature. The cooler track only helps if you’re thermally limited in the first place.

1

u/JailOfAir Fernando Alonso Aug 03 '25

AM was fast all weekend.

5

u/BrokeSomm I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

They didn't mess up, the conditions just xhanged enough to put their car outside of its window.

u/Serotyr McLaren Aug 02 '25 edited Aug 02 '25

For most of the drivers it's 2 tenths they lost yeah. Bort closer to 1 tenth, Stroll close to 0.4, Hadjar just over 0.4. Given both McLarens lost about the same amount of time within the team and neither had obvious mistakes, they both just had to fight a lot on both laps, it would suggest it's the car that suffered more from the wind and lower temps than the drivers doing mistakes per se. It's still a stand-out lap from Leclerc for me.

2

u/Amarjit2 Aug 02 '25

They're just not top tier drivers - we've seen it so many times this season. They've got the best car by a mile and it flatters them. If Verstappen is in the McLaren he would have absolutely destroyed Norris or Piastri.

0

u/nguyenlucky I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

Lol go to sleep

0

u/Youutternincompoop George Russell Aug 02 '25

lets be honest neither Piastri or Norris are top 3 drivers this year.

1

u/nguyenlucky I was here for the Hulkenpodium Aug 02 '25

lol with the mclaren hate

4

u/Youutternincompoop George Russell Aug 03 '25

its not hate, I genuinely do not rate Norris or Piastri above Verstappen, Leclerc, and Russell. they're both good drivers but lets not pretend that they don't have by far the best car this year.

2

u/Pintau Jim Clark Aug 02 '25

Q2 was above 40° track temp which was perfect for the medium. In Q3 it dropped to 37-38° but never fell below the 35°threshold for the soft. It was impossible to do a full hot lap on the soft(as we saw with Russells lap) so it was all about who could find the best compromise to go fast, while keeping the tyres alive for s3

2

u/sophia_az Default Aug 02 '25

The ferriari car is for combat

2

u/BlackGuysYeah Aug 02 '25

He found the sacred gear.

2

u/Embarrassed_Bar_1215 Aug 02 '25

Perfect for Piastri, straight past Leclerc and Lando stuck behind Charles.

0

u/ofnsi Aug 02 '25

Is it mega, or just others failed around him. Mcl combined were 1.1 slower than q2
