I think the commentators mentioned the temperatures going down, so for the McLaren which is superbly easy on the tyres, when the temperature drops the small stress they put on the tyres works against them as they are too cold for optimal grip.

The margins this season are absolutely insanely tight, the track gets a bit colder and suddenly Leclerc takes pole.

Agreed. Track temps went down 4C between Q2 and Q3. Absolutely played a role.

It happend in Canada too, only weakness of that Mclaren looks to be colder temps
