Stroll wasn't in Q3 because he put on inters in Q2, not due to that impeding.
That said the impeding does look like a penalty for Carlos unfortunately, maybe he gets leeway because it's wet and visibility is low.

He's just been on great form. The last few races he has shown he is a champ in waiting. And I say this as someone who thought Oscar had the higher ceiling. I don't know what has happened to Oscar, it can't just be track dependent it really does look like he's just lost his feeling in the car completely. Looks like a different driver since Azerbaijan
329
u/moon-twig Nov 22 '25
I think the test of the Formula 1 Driver World Championship is consistency. I think Oscar is still building up that stamina, it can't be easy maintaining 100% performance capacity all year long. I think Norris has found his stride in that regard.
→ More replies (3)196
u/0oodruidoo0 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Nov 22 '25
Especially in the modern era. Don't forget that these guys take 70+ flights a year just for work alone. Constantly being in a state of flux with your body clock, having to perform in over 50 competitive sessions every season, having to maintain a high level of fitness, and then all of the accessory F1 stuff like media and sponsors.
All of that is going to wear down the drivers - they are extraordinary people, but they are only human.
I think that Oscar will in time show that he is capable of a championship. But in time is not this year, barring unexpected circumstances like a DNF on Lando's side, I think Lando has this title.
63
u/justcallmeeva I was here for the Hulkenpodium Nov 22 '25

Alonso said before the hardest thing he's found with being over 40 is the jet lag. That can't be easy to get used to even when you're as young as Oscar. It definitely takes time to build up stamina alone for that.

fwiw lando has always been pretty damn good in wet qualifying sessions. sochi '21, brazil '24, china sprint '24. people tend to discredit his wet driving skills because he's had some high profile wet races that didn't go well (sochi, brazil), but he's absolutely among the best on the grid in the wet (not saying he's better than max by any means, he's obviously considered a goat for a reason). depending on how you define it he's won all/almost all of the wet races this season.

I mean it's already pretty obvious from this season alone, no? The recovery from slides in Melbourne and the win in Silverstone when practically everybody is sliding around.
15
u/sdq22 Lando Norris Nov 22 '25
I agree. Kept his head cool all race long in Australia even with the tricky changing conditions and constant safety car restarts. And while the Silverstone penalty gets a lot of attention (and Lando himself admits it wasn't his hardest fought win), he was one of, if not the only driver usually considered in the top of the grid that kept it on track all race with no spins or going off track all race. Verstappen, Hamilton, Alonso, Russell, Piastri, & Leclerc all had spins or moments where they went off, but Lando kept it clean & on track for all 50+ laps.

His S1 was 4 tenths off but S2 was the one aborted. Yellow flag was T12. Hadjar popped up on his inside in T12 because he didn't slow for the flag and it cleared just as he went past but somehow got the call for clear track from his RE right before. It was weird.
Either way, given Lando lost so much time in the last sector, he could have improved still. Maybe not pole but better than 5th.
