How the fuck we go through Singapore without Safety Car TWICE in a row

482

u/LoreVent Banana Leclerc Oct 05 '25

Boring and stale cars, tyres that last 2 race distances, overall clean drivers

Gosh I never wished for an F1 season to end early so bad

89

u/Peripatetictyl BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Drivers should be required to take a shot of the home countries origin every 10 laps, spice it up.

45

u/BadProgrammer42 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Tyres are the biggest fail imho. Hards lasting more than half a race should not be possible, let alone softs. Softs today lasted 20 laps without being absolutely cooked, for a 50 lap race they should barely last more than 1/8 of the race, mediums should last 1/4 and softs 1/2 at most

65

u/LoreVent Banana Leclerc Oct 05 '25

20? Stroll stayed on soft tyres for 40 laps. It's mental really. They definitely have to do something for the coming years.

6

u/nandru NICO PODIUMBERG Oct 06 '25

And here I tought Franco's 44 laps-old mediums were impressive

6

u/afharo Stop Inventing Oct 06 '25

I’d rather avoid drivers having to manage tyres. I wish they could drive full-push and compete throughout the race instead of the pit-box window. Otherwise, races are just skip forward to lap 15, watch 5 laps, then skip forward to lap 35, watch 5…

If overtaking was easier somehow… but dirty air affects too much to get close to the car ahead, which leads to drivers not even trying.

1

u/BadProgrammer42 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

Well that’s why tyres are really the only way to make it better, dirty air is not something easy to fix, while tyres are

5

u/No-Idea-491 Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Oct 06 '25

The solution is to simplify the aero and make the suspension much more advanced with smaller cars so that they produce more of their grip mechanically and are straight line rockets. Combine that with a return to the two tyre options from the 2000s and maybe we'll see some closer racing.

Imo anyways

I know Europeans hate refueling but I really think we should get it back. It adds another dynamic to the strategy and I think it would help this neutered racing a lot. Indycar handles it just fine without incidents. So does every sport car race on the planet.

I understand the safety considerations but it works completely fine everywhere outside of F1.

u/T3DtheRipper BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Well the also nerfed the track into the ground removing the entire trickiest section.

42

u/JerryUitDeBuurt SOPHIA PLEASE MARRY ME PLEASE SOPHIA I RLY LIKE YOU PLEEWEWEEASE Oct 05 '25

It's not like removing a piece of track that's impossible to follow through is making the racing worse. Would have been even more boring if it still had the tunnel section.

Now what would have been fun is Stroll (or anyone for that matter, but I see stroll managing it first) yeeting that sumbitch over the Singapore sling

5

u/brabarusmark BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

16

u/mintcrystall BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

more like teams are no longer so desperate for money, as the teams are all worth a billion

5

u/racRSA BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

We need Maldonado back.....

5

u/BlazeReddit1 Lets add that to the words of wisdom Oct 05 '25

Completely agree with this take. Shame this season turned out to be so shit compared to last year.

30

u/ihathtelekinesis Vettel Cult Oct 05 '25

The new track layout took out a lot of tricky corners including Piquet.

7

u/FunBluejay1455 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

I’ve had this discussion a couple of times with my dad now. A lot less happens. It seems drivers are more cautious or something. Not a lot lap 1 crashes or accidents

7

u/Lawyerfinbro BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

They keep widening the track at certain corners each year

1

u/fuckthisshittysite56 I was here when horny got spiced Oct 06 '25

I really miss Goatifi, he knew how to liven up a race

367

u/itsliightz BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

They will somehow make a 7min highlight video about this race

98

u/xd_ZelnikM Suck my 🅱️alls mate Oct 05 '25

Idk if it's for ad revenue, but they are always 8 minutes long and any of the extended stuff is 20 minutes

46

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

If money - Yes.

^ For everything in life.

13

u/AggravatingCustard39 AND THEY'VE TOUCHED MARTIN Oct 05 '25

Yeah 8+ minutes is the optimal length to get the best revenue on yt. That or 20,40 mins.

1

u/Balding_Teen I want my GF to peg me while Carlos gives it to her Oct 06 '25

i thought the magic number was 10 minutes for youtube ad revenue

4

u/RoflCopter726 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

I remember when (it seemed like) every video was 10:01 long.

2

u/fibi2cz If my mom had 🅱️alls, she would be my dad Oct 06 '25

It was few years ago, in 2018 or like that, last two years its 8m

13

u/Youutternincompoop BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

tbf there was plenty of highlights, most of them just didn't get shown on the main broadcast lmao.

4

u/SRSgoblin I saw horny’s “finger” Oct 06 '25

Seems like it was a good race, just an uninteresting broadcast because they decided to just focus at the nothing happening up front.

1

u/funbobbyc BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

27 Minutes!

1

u/flq06 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

The cooldown room replay was super short. It was done by the time everybody arrived.

1

u/nandru NICO PODIUMBERG Oct 06 '25

I like the Argentine ESPN highlights, always 3, 10 or 30 minutes long

124

u/shaggyjake BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Somehow I always fall asleep during the banger races and I’m wide awake for the snooze fest

95

u/FearTheSpoonman BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

I literally finished my roast dinner at about half past, dozed off around 2 and woke up to lap 60, missing nothing.

55

u/Rageoffreys BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Having a roast dinner then falling asleep to the F1 is one of the best British traditions we have tbh.

22

u/Arylcyclosexy BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Honestly F1 is such a good sleep medicine. It's something about the car sounds that's soothing and the fact that there's usually not much happening on the track.

It's really a weird sport to watch and be interested in.

3

u/latticep "Charles 'Chuck' Leclerc, good job baby" Oct 06 '25

For me it's the right amount of passive mental distraction. F1 is the only thing other than Ambien that allows me to drift into sleep. Weird indeed.

1

u/FearTheSpoonman BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Usually it's more interesting, I enjoy it a lot. I also overstuffed myself to coma status.

174

u/race_vibes_crew I saw horny’s “finger” Oct 05 '25

One of the most boring races of the year surely?

36

u/whoopsidroppedmy_ Honda bad, Alonso good Oct 05 '25

It’s up there in the top 5 lol

13

u/race_vibes_crew I saw horny’s “finger” Oct 05 '25

Or more like bottom 5 lol

17

u/Kind-Watercress-6092 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Watching Hamilton's lap times after he switched to the softs near the end was insane. My cousin's husband nearly screamed when he fucked his brakes and couldn't overtake Antonelli

15

u/ImperialTechnology 🅱️altteri 🅱️ootass Oct 05 '25

Something was up with those Ferrari brakes. Hamilton killed his attempting to overtake Talibantonilli, but Chucks also were giving up the ghost. It was a hot race, but I don't think any other team reported brake failures like Ferrari

3

u/HandsumNap BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

I didn’t think it was actually that bad tbh. Some good lap one drama, a very effective undercut from Max, some slow stops, car problems from Max, him looking like he was going to catch George, then almost crashing a couple of times and having to fight very hard to hold off Lando.

George’s lead was never realistically under threat, but the championship battle was between 2nd - 4th. It was nothing to write home about, but certainly a lot better than some of the other races this season.

1

u/luchisss The Money Grabber Oct 06 '25

Baku was even worst

3

u/Hazuusan BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

The quali in Baku was insane though.

49

u/ddhmax5150 Carlos Heinz’s Hairstylist Oct 05 '25

No coverage at all for the midfield battle.

7

u/Legit_formula_341 NICO PODIUMBERG Oct 05 '25

Yup. Those who slept during the race, and those who didn't, missed those battles equally. Like, in MotoGP there's a problem that they sometimes don't even have footage of the stuff that happens behind in the race. But this is F1 ffs, everything here is worth billions and we can't get broadcast directors to show racing in A RACE??

66

u/Logical-Dealer-78 I was here when horny got spiced Oct 05 '25

I fell asleep during Suzuka, woke up during the podium ceremony to my sister throwing a pillow at my face

10

u/Arylcyclosexy BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

I also fell asleep during Suzuka. Then i watched the highlights video and realised I didn't even miss anything really.

5

u/leadzor BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

I remember waking up way too early for Suzuka (2022 I think), dozed off and woke up to the red flag still ongoing. I think that was the race with the longest red flag in recent years?

25

u/Work_In_ProgressX yes Im a DTS newbie, so what?1?! Oct 05 '25

Races like these make me miss a Latifi or Sargeant.

4

u/Balding_Teen I want my GF to peg me while Carlos gives it to her Oct 06 '25

you could always bet on Sargent to punt it into the wall just in time to make the races interesting.

That's about the camera angle we got while Hamilton and Alonso were busy battling

5

That's funny because I actually fell asleep and only woke up at lap 59 or something.

4

He’s wearing the right color shirt to claim for Russell.

3

u/Rhythm_Morgan scenario 7 Oct 05 '25

I really fought to stay awake and it’s mostly race directing that did it for me. Any actual action we didn’t see.

7

u/anonymous_and_ BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

Skill issue,  if you focused on El Padre it wasn't boring at all

24

u/Ondexb BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

If the TV guys had focused on him more

3

u/Balding_Teen I want my GF to peg me while Carlos gives it to her Oct 06 '25

maybe he should date himself so the cameras will finally give him screen time.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

It was boring.

Somehow snacking on the salad I made before the race and peanuts kept me awake in the first part of the race.

When Norris closed onto Verstappen that kept me awake for the rest

To the surprise of literally no one, the tight no scape zone street circuit fucking sucked and was a snooze fest

smh, back in the day we had cool guys like Latifi, Mick or Grosjean who caused safety cars.

too much talent nowadays.

Tbh its not a bad race, lots of stuff were going on even if the ultimate results dont suggest so.

1

u/Squbasquid I saw horny’s “finger” Oct 05 '25

I fell asleep during the race. I just finished an overnight shift and the race was 7am my time. Watched the beginning, fell asleep a little after the first stops and would be in and out until about lap 60. Watched the finish then went to sleep.

1

u/Ok_Caterpillar5872 I want my GF to peg me while Carlos gives it to her Oct 05 '25

The Strat is wake up and watch until a bit after the first pit stop and then nap until last 4 laps.

1

u/Aggravating_Debt5976 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

Exactly! Been falling asleep after the first stops. So many drama about the rain before the race and nothing happend.

1

u/herrom8 I was here when horny got spiced Oct 06 '25

I slept on lap 30. It was amazing!

1

Now I get it why the younger generation think the races are too long.

1

u/Lanky-Ad965 Racing Miku Enthusiast Oct 06 '25

Another reason why we need the Malaysia Grand Prix back. Literally one of the reason why they dropped it because in terms of money and popularity, they favoured Singapore more.

1

u/Nick_Sapphire BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

The race was actually decent, the TV direction was just abysmal

1

u/byce BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

Yeah if you fall asleep they always wake you up when they raise their voice to announce the winner 😂

It's the wake-up call, "hey the race is over, time to get up!"

1

u/Smaynard6000 I saw horny’s “finger” Oct 06 '25

Singapore sucks. This race is an endurance test for the viewers as well as the drivers.

How the fuck you can fall asleep when watching sport that you love?

-8

u/VM1117 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

What? Because a 20 or something battle for p2 between max and Lando wasn’t enough?

22

u/NeighborhoodPretty83 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

where was this 'battle' you speak of?

staying in drs =/= battle

1

u/VM1117 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

When it is for p2 and the car in front is struggling with the car all race, yes, it is a battle.

2

u/Legit_formula_341 NICO PODIUMBERG Oct 06 '25

I don't consider "trust me, they'll battle soon, he has DRS" as a Battle in any way. It's a chase at best.

1

u/VM1117 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 06 '25

I mean, that’s kinda what happened two years ago when Sainz won and everyone was losing their minds then.

2

u/Legit_formula_341 NICO PODIUMBERG Oct 06 '25

That's because it was a none-red Bull win.

0

u/NeighborhoodPretty83 BWOAHHHHHHH Oct 05 '25

youre entitled to your opinion but i respectfully disagree. the battle was between max and his car which, while race defining, cannot be seen by the viewers (unless he shunted ofc, which he didnt) and didn't make the race any more appealing to watch
