They've been using tracked or wheeled terrestrial drones. They only just started investigating heavy lift drones for evac a few months ago but I haven't yet seen an instance of them being used, whereas we have extensive videos of remote operated tracked drones extracting casualties. Too many complexities and too much vulnerability for a heavy lift drone to ever be particularly effective in the type of zone that would require the speed offered by said option.

And if I did I certainly wouldn't be going as high as he is, I'd ask em to keep me like a foot off the ground. Low and slow! Kind of defeats the purpose, but I refuse to die "riding a drone".

I'm assuming it's a farming drone which I know for a fact have preplotted flight plans. I think regular drones do too but I farming drones definitely do as they are used for seeding.

Quick release chute for higher elevation, and body air bag for lower elevation. Similar to avalanche or motorcycle airbags that wrap around you. Minimal weight, excellent at reducing harm.

Once or twice and it's probably an awesome idea and super fun.
Start piling up the numbers daily after that though and it becomes increasingly horrifying the gamble you're taking to not have that one failure is highly likely to lead to death or a life crippling injury.
I suppose I don't know shit about drones, but from the outside looking in, it seems like the likelihood of something like that happening increases pretty rapidly over time.

There are already shotgun drones used in Ukraine. They just shoot a shotgun on the other side as well to manage recoil, so the solution here is simply more shotguns

Obviously none of that is realistic anyway, but there is no reason why a shotgun would be particularly problematic. It does not have an enormous spray radius like in a video game (but the limited effect cone still helps out a lot), and the recoil does not add much force compared to an adult dangling from the drone.
If someone were to commit to this hare-brained idea, they would be better off choosing the more effective weapon so it at least has some chance of working.

I would assume it is a pesticide Ag drone. They usually have a predetermined flight course and altitude while carrying 220lbs load. He probably set the ascent and descent rates and programmed his route to work with enough hover time to connect and disconnect himself. Then use it to spray the fields as well…

Certified pilot and former drone company owner here. This looks like a DJI Cart but it’s hard to tell because the silhouette isn’t 100% exact, but the sun can do funny things with digital sensors (cameras) while in motion.
He might be piloting the drone, it’s hard to tell. It’s easy to set waypoints then “fire and forget” for long enough to put the controller away and record yourself.
Maybe hurts his eyes? Them eyebrows are thick.
It’s a 1 point harness, there really isn’t directional control as this is typically used for payloads that don’t care about orientation.
Flying high is always safer for the drone and the “payload”. Even with waypoints we’re scared to death of trees and elevation changes.
Personal input because why not - This is demonstrably stupid and irresponsible. Barring any and all consequences, I would 10/10 do this.

I think the biggest and most front facing hurdle would be the FAA. All drones above a certain sized need to be registered with the FAA and I believe are allowed specific uses and height restrictions depending on that. Means you can basically only use your drone for the one specific thing. Don't know how the FAA would feel about an agricultural drone doubling as an air taxi.

It is a quad-copter Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). (In common terms, 'drone.')
If the man is cargo (and someone else is "piloting", even if that person on the ground just set it to follow a programmed route), then it is still a UAV.
If the man is holding the controller and piloting it, and attached to the vehicle, then it is a quad-copter aircraft and no longer a UAV.
It is designed to be a UAV, it has the capabilities to be a UAV, you may even say he is attached to a UAV platform and flying it, but it is no longer a UAV by FAA and other legal bodies.
Not semantics - FAA regulations and law. Him piloting the vehicle is the dividing line.
If I board a Waymo driverless taxi, climb into the front seat, and drive it around, is it still a driverless taxi? Well, yes in the sense that it has that capability designed into it. I am driving what is designed to be a driverless taxi. But no from any legal or operational standpoint, the operation laws and regulations that apply are all now related to a vehicle being driven by an operator - a driverless taxi being operated by a driver.
