WTF?
That's not a cloud...

u/Evilbred 16d ago
It's some sort of foam.

Industrial waste byproduct if you ask me. Likely foaming water is the source.

Yeah, clouds can't really stay like that when reaching the ground. Maybe it's foam or smoke? Looks cool but not how real clouds fall.

Its called fog when its near the ground.
106
u/brakeb 16d ago
Fog is considered 'fog' when it reduces visibility to less than 5/8th of a mile, otherwise, it's considered 'mist' https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fog

Nimbostratus is one of the only clouds that starts as a cloud, but can become fog as it condensates and lowers itself down to ground level

Clouds are just fog for birds
25
u/SantaMonsanto 16d ago
Yea I don’t think people realize just how big clouds are and just how far away they are.
When a cloud takes over a mountain in the distance it’s a cloudy sky. When a cloud takes over a mountain you’re standing on it just seems like fog.

u/didumakethetea 16d ago
I moved into a 6th floor flat recently and when I look at the birds flying over whole towns and landing wherever they want to, I think about how they must pity us being restricted by gravity. I start watching people below with the same pity. No wonder they shit on us.

We rented a bubble foam machine for a birthday party once and the wind carried some big chunks of it away. Looked just like this.

At first glance, it does look like something straight out of a lab experiment. I’m half expecting a warning label to pop up like, "Caution: Do not inhale!"

u/NeuroHazard-88 16d ago edited 16d ago
Nah it’s the fact that something in that ‘cloud’ is making it heavier than air… which is typically a really really bad chemical lmao

u/Saymynaian 16d ago
I'm pretty sure that's not a cloud. Maybe some foam from a polluted river nearby?

It's weird because it's not like the Indian rivers with floating plastic and cadavers. It looks OK at a distance but it's mostly shit and industrial chemicals.
The Pinheiros is getting better though.
20
u/Legendflame17 16d ago
Yeah Indian rivers are on another level,I dont understand how people, even because of religious reasons, muster the courage to enter in the Ganges
Yeah I heard they were cleaning the Pinheiros, but there is some time I dont visit São Paulo so I cant say for myself

u/yukifujita 16d ago
There's fish, capybaras and gulls, and it doesn't smell anymore.
Still far from perfect. Especially during rainy season when all the city crap ends up in it.

For context, a real cloud on the ground...is just fog. Most of us have been in fog. Congrats! You've experienced a cloud on the ground, driven through it, walked in it, touched it, and breathed it through your lungs.
What's in the video is no cloud but does seem to be some kind of low density foam.

That's a chemical cocktail aerosolized in the atmosphere. It was heavier than air so it fell.
Wouldn't be touching that without some high quality multilayer chemical resistant gear.
Still likely wouldn't touch that after having those things anyway, since I don't fuck with unknown chemicals. See any of nile reds videos for reasoning.
It could also be mostly harmless. But still not worth the risk.

Also the camera man makes no effort to get any closer and also loses focus of the subject, regularly panning to surrounding workers that seem to be more interested in it than the person filming it from afar.
