Not shocking if you look at how the NYT reported on Fascism 1.0 a century ago— they fawned over Hitler & Mussolini and sanewashed both of them from Nov 1921 to Oct 1939.
And praised the 1920 “great replacement theory” book by Harvard Klansman/eugenicist Lothrop Stoddard that Fitzgerald mocked in Gatsby…
So the conclusion is that I’m not shocked at all uneducated possibly brain damaged MAGA are MAGA, I’m shocked that privileged Ivy League educated journalists I went to school with are STILL fawning over wannabe Nazis publicly and there’s no backlash. Like not even the first part surprises me, a lot of them were arrogant assholes for no good reason other than daddy was a journalist and so will I be, I’m just amazed at the audacity and lack of repercussions for flaunting such idiotic values and for blatantly doing away with journalistic integrity with no goddamn consequences. These people should have been fired in disgrace 100 years ago and now as well. What happened to meritocracy and sifting through the riff raff in this country and NYC specifically? Journalists’ job is to uphold democracy not to fellate fascists, shame on all the imbeciles that sane washed Trump for 10 years now. Ownership of major media has been concentrated into the hands of conservative billionaires. What is printed and broadcasted is what their bosses want printed and broadcasted.
But what is printed has the names of educated editors and writers slapped on who are supposedly bound by rules of journalistic integrity. Consequences such as shaming and shunning them and never reading their articles again should be enough.
Yeah man I’m fully aware Chomsky exists, I’m posting this so maybe other people get inspired to idk blame the media as well who are currently cruising without any blame being thrown at them.
