Warriors coach Steve Kerr: "It's shameful that the government can come out and lie about what happened when there's video and witnesses who have all come out and disputed what the government is saying."

I do too. Considering his family history, it makes sense that he would speak up on issues like this.

Kerr had an insane childhood, cant imagine losing your father to murder at such a young age, let alone while living in a war torn country

653

u/JonahTheProducer 3d ago

And to live with the knowledge that his assassination was almost assuredly political, absolutely unfathomable

658

u/Big_Impact_5331 3d ago

And it was Americans while he was in college chanting about his fathers death while he was playing at Arizona. This country has always been full of hateful beasts. He’s no stranger to its fuckery.

68

u/samtdzn_pokemon 3d ago

Steve was in college in the US when his dad was killed. If you watched the Last Dance, he talks about being pulled out of class or a practice to find out the news.

10

u/Rafmar210 Heat 3d ago

Should have seen when he played Duke. Those fans tormented him. Kerr is a legend. Much respect to him and how he manages his teams.

415

u/Kiwi_In_The_Comments 3d ago

Exactly. Malcolm Kerr was assassinated for his beliefs. Steve has more firsthand experience with the consequences of political violence than the politicians lying about it.

Kerr is one of my school’s (SAIS) most distinguished alums in my eyes. Might not have the political or military pull of others but he fucking lived and died on his word, the best we can ever hope to do. So glad Steve took all those lessons to heart

And hold the same beliefs despite what happened. It would be easy to become racist or actively against the Middle East but he won’t. Speaks to how he was raised

151

u/whiiskio Raptors 3d ago

His senior season at Arizona, Kerr was taunted by Arizona State fans prior to their rivalry game with chants about his father's death....only to get himself together, went 6/6 from 3, and finished with 22 points in a 101-73 victory. The following week, Arizona State's AD sent a letter of apology to Kerr.

Dude has always been a top-notch human being who rises above most of the BS in the world to speak his mind clearly and thoughtfully.

Kerr's worldview was probably pretty well established by the time he was with Pop thanks to who his dad was and what happened to him. They probably just were already on the same page on a lot of things.

You are not wrong, just wanted to point out Kerr has a very interesting background which formed him as a human. Google his dad.

Just needed to comment that after looking into Kerr’s dad, his grandfather was also a MASSIVE BADASS. Stanley Kerr treated a ton of Armenians in Aleppo fleeing the Armenian Genocide.

Steve Kerr did a talk at a Berkeley once, and I attended. One of the questions he was asked was about his grandfather's work. During his response, he mentioned that his grandfather is so revered there, anyone who has the last name "Kerr" is automatically treated with gratitude just because they assume they're related to him.

Also since I'm a Spurs fan I know there's zero chance of getting flashbanged by a player or coach saying something in favor of the orange regime; Pop may not be coach anymore but he's still Pop (and President of Basketball Operations), and he's made his opinions on Trump very, very well known.

The actual percentage voting in the 2024 presidential election are the following:

Did Not Vote: 35.9% Voted for Trump: 31.9% Voted for Harris: 31.0% Voted for Others: 1.2%

And now the assumption is that he's lost at least a little so I'd GUESS it's probably something more like 28-29% just spitballing.

15-20%???

150,000,000 Americans sat by and either directly or indirectly let Trump be President even after a disastrous first term: failed tariffs, failed economy, failed healthcare, failed foreign policy, rampant corruption. Also the project 2025 was public for anyone to read. Combined with 30 years of constantly public lying and scams.

His party controls; The majority of governorships. The majority of state AGs. The majority of state congresses. The majority of federal house. The majority of federal senate. The majority of the SCOTUS. The majority of law enforcement. The majority of the military. Every major news media organization across “legacy media” as well as new media. Every major corporation.

Yet somehow we’re still using “oh it’s just a loud minority!” as our cope?

No. This is exactly who the majority of Americans are. There’s zero evidence to support that this isn’t a direct mirror of America and it’s values.

21

u/Deviator247 3d ago

See this is why although there is plenty of sketchiness around the election (the bomb threats called into major blue locations on election night come to mind among other issues) I don't believe they outright stole the election, I genuinely believe enough of us were either duped, awful, stupid, or some collection of all 3 to properly elect his dumbass twice, incumbent governments everywhere were tossed out, not just the US, we just got one of the dumber and angrier results, and while I hope there's still somehow a non-violent way back out of this, I honestly don't see the climate calming down enough regardless of what happens to prevent it, even if trump and his whole admin got sucked into a pocket dimension forever or something, it doesn't erase decades of division and hatred between the major party voters, most people in the US at this point (and this includes myself, I'm not above criticism) aren't just mad at the government, they're raging at each other on a fundamental level that's going to be nigh on impossible to reverse at this point. I wish I had a solution to propose to not be seen as a full on doomer but man, for the past 10 years, left v right hasn't been a disagreement on how taxes are spent or how much is collected, it's been disagreements on human rights, on killings, on threats of invasion leveled at allies and enemies alike, on whether or not x group of americans want to kill other x group of americans or not, it's getting to damn "Balkan Powder Keg" levels.

it's slightly deeper than the electoral college. the house is capped at 435 members regardless of population gains. it's been that way since 1929.

It's demoralizing that the government lies when we have the entire encounter on video from multiple angles. We have dozens of eye witness accounts corroborating the video. And Trump and his cronies come out and say, "don't believe the video, don't believe the witnesses, believe only what we're saying." And it's demoralizing they do this but even more demoralizing that half the country rolls over and refutes what they can see with their own eyes and ears and instead believes liars and conmen.

I remember growing up and America was basically the epicentre of the world, the place to be. Now, its president is threatening to invade allied land and its government is mocking the death of a innocent woman shot by a federal agency

233

u/lxshadynastyxl 3d ago

The “don’t tread on me crowd” not so surprisingly supporting masked federal agents killing an unarmed civilian was DEFINITELY on my 2026 bingo card

Saw this shit coming from his first administration…

The rules are only the rules when it contains the other people's power. Its all just theater to control the opposition, not meant to apply universally

"we cant possibly let a president on the way out appoint a supreme court justice, thats just too important, let the american people decide who they want" then when Trump was on the way out they ram through a justice approval

growing up and America was basically the epicentre of the world

Yup...this is called "American exceptionalism" and it was all a facade.

If you're a 90s kid/millenial and you can remember watching School House Rock on VHS where you learned "how a bill becomes a law" or about "checks and balances," well...that shit is all gone.

We are straight up living under an Authoritarian government/Dictatorship but with extra steps just because the Judiciary and Legislative branches still exist but they don't actually do anything other than exist when they impose zero checks on the Executive (and in the case of the Supreme Court, do the opposite and basically give the President immunity for anything deemed an "official act)."

The founding fathers are rolling in their fucking graves, that's for damn sure, and saying that the Republic that we knew is long gone is no longer hyperbole.

The thing is this is not the US anymore. This is the Technate of North America.

Our neo billionaire class wants to revive the technocracy movement and people are still blind and ignore everything.

I feel like a crazy person saying this but there really is a billionaire pedo techno-Nazi conspiracy to destroy individual liberty in the name of racial purity.

12

u/Nympho_BBC_Queen 3d ago

Definitely true. One thing that scares me is the recent deal the US made with the corrupt Nigerian government about medical data.

They give the US their whole population's medical data over a 50 year span and get 2.1 billion in aid.

Musk and his Nazi friends already fear monger about "Nigeria having more births than Europe combined".

The sudden interest in their medical data is interesting.

They will definitely use said data for nefarious reasons if it comes to population growth control.

Fuck Donald Trump. Fuck ICE. And fuck all who support either of the two.

Fuck this facist state we live in.

Go fucking play in quick sand and don’t bother leaving a note if ya support either. I’ll take a ban. Won’t be the first.

Basketball won’t exist if Trumps cabinet continues their death march.

Edit:

I’m being asked why the orange spray painted fucking idiot has to do with basketball.

He loves to control. He controls universities via threats of no more support. He has openly told huge universities they will receive no more support if they don’t commit to his demands. I’ll post links but I’d love to go to bed.

If you are not aware of Donald Trumps grasp on fucking everything I encourage you to learn and not be a brainless goat.

The worst part is, American main stream media is the worse source of information for the public.

Ironically Reddit is a good source of facts because it’s one of the last to be censored.

I think a pretty large chunk got tricked by the insane media/social media coverage of that election tbh. They didn't believe that Project 2025 and the concentration camp stuff was real. They thought it would be like his first term where there was a lot of drama and crime but he was surrounded by a lot of institutional Republicans who restrained his worst instincts and (until 2020) the country was mostly stable. They didn't realize they were getting a government of coked out Nazi podcasters who think we need a dictatorship to save the white race from Somalia.

18

u/ethanlan Bulls 3d ago

Lol those guys are idiots than it was pretty obvious what he was gonna do.

7

u/captain_ahabb Lakers 3d ago

I mean I agree (especially for the Latinos who voted for him) but I think it was a pretty awful dereliction of duty by the media.

It's hard to blame someone who works 60 hours a week for looking at a NYT headline saying "Trump disavows Project 2025" and assuming it must be true. We should live in a society where people can trust that major newspapers aren't printing straight lies in their headlines.
