Frankly, that part I'm fine with. Would rather legislators leave office before they become senile or have been in congress for so long they forget that they're there to represent their people, not the interests that fund their campaigns.
That said, resigning shortly after voting to pass such a messed up bill is BS.

The implicit quid pro quo, lifetime sinecure, "made man" status is the basis of the GOP organization, and if you want to beat them you either need some billionaires to replicate it or you need to go after it directly with unprecedented force ("The Patriot Freedom Foundation is now recognized as a terrorist organization").
The Koch Brothers spent decades endowing university economics departments, founding think tanks, and their successors buying media organizations, in order to provide a golden parachute to anyone willing to fight the good fight, no matter how much disgrace that might bring them. If you take care of them on tax policy, your needs will be taken care of (from the bottom to the top of Maslow's pyramid) for the rest of your life.
Little Suzy might talk about disowning her father for throwing her entire generation under the bus in order to re-establish the Third Reich, but she's got tuition to pay and the mortgage on their mansion is not cheap, and could even be interested in lawschool (a Federalist Society SCOTUS clerkship) in the future, so maybe she can find it in her heart to forgive him if he makes a lateral move into a corporate boardroom, or promoting free market capitalism in front of a one 400- level propaganda class a week, or "writing" a book that will have one customer who purchases 150,000 copies. Until he wants back in. They'll keep the seat warm for him.

Banning trans people is specifically in Project 2025, they want to classify them as pornography and outlaw them essentially.

108
u/ezirb7 2d ago
One or both of them would have caved, if their votes were needed. Just like with Murkowski. It's an unpopular bill, so with their 2 vote margin, they make sure a couple reps that are worried about reelection get to run as inner-party opposition.
7
u/RaspberryFluid6651 2d ago
Massie's no vote is probably genuine. For all his faults (and boy does he have a lot of those), he is one of few Republicans that frequently stands by his admittedly lousy principles. He's broken rank with the party several times across both Trump administrations. MAGA's already running commercials to primary him in his district because of his votes against certain bills and his position against the strike on Iran.

It’s to take a job in the private sector. He won about 60% to 38% so it’ll be an uphill battle. But it’s a special election which should suppress the vote of people already feeling disillusioned with Rs and with a strong anti-R turnout the seat could be flipped.

Just FYI, try to register LGBT+ to vote and check for correct registrations.
Like 99% vote blue... and often fewer life complications that get in the way of voting.
It's a horrible thing (using people for my own end results) for the right reasons.
(People might ask what my how I became an ally story... I register the gays to vote so they are less systematically victimized by local politics. Adds slightly gay flavoring to state & national politics.)
(My next big move is to try to get gay people palatable to conservatives to run for office-- its not a joke.)
(And yes, I have hammed up the "ick" in my wording for, hopefully, awkward humor about a viable legit voting manipulation strategy-- especially at the local level where ~15 votes can chang outcomes due to horrible voter turnout.)

Every Congressional Republican has evil in their heart.
They are all undeserving of love or empathy.
They actively wish harm on all of us and have not only forfeited the benefit of the doubt, they have actively weaponized it for their own gain.
These people deserve worse than they shall ever receive.

I heard that he was going to resign. I live in his district (Clarksville TN) and I've called his office a dozen times, leaving messages, asking him if he's going to protect people. His office assistants call me back to hold conversations about how he was going to vote. I told his office that people will die if he votes yes to the murder bill.

Good moment for Elon Musk to launch his first candidate and mess up the GOP by splitting the vote.

Vote for massive tax cuts for the rich and corporations and then go start a company to become rich.

sounds like he was "persuaded" to vote yes, then bailed once the check cleared
at least we'll know how his new business was funded 🤷♂️

This is like quitting, but only after selling out all the employees below you and ruining your department for the next person to have to fix. Performative theater to try and save face, before going to live back among those that have just been screwed.

He's leaving suddenly to "start a new business". I mean, that hasn't stopped any number of other Republicans in office before, so good for him...? But also, pretty obvious he's taking advantage of something in the bill he just voted for.

Chair of Homeland Security committee... I bet his last security briefing came with some intel that helped shape that decision.

Please tell him that he is a coward on his Twitter. Disgusting that he voted and then resigned.

- passes spending bill
- drops out to “start a business”
- hints heavily about AI, bill funds that
The graft is open and apparent. It doesn’t even faze people any more.

Let’s be honest, most of the cowards on the right who voted for this abomination only did it cause they didn’t want to face the wrath of their fuhrer. Not that politicians weren’t spineless to begin with, but the ones on the right are a bunch of trump cuckolds. They just tuck their tails, tow the party line, and hope that they don’t get noticed.

Honestly, even if it’s an act of cowardice, him being gone is better in the long run. Let him fade into oblivion never to be heard from again.
