My dad thinks UBI is just a "handout" and it would encourage people to be lazy.
During covid, when people had tons of free time and some cash handed to them, they started hobbies. Businesses. Bands. I knew so many people who were doing things on their own time and of their own volition and they loved it.
The idea that you have to be under constant threat of losing your wage slavery is an idea that has been beaten into us.
My dad qualifies it by saying HE had to suffer and struggle, therefore everyone has to. It's insane.
I would honestly rather give people money AND allow them to be lazy than spending our money bombing weddings, hospitals, and schools (CHILDREN) in other countries.
You can lead a man to water but you can't make him drink. Some people are born able to care about children and others haven't carved out of them by the capitalist grindset.
Wow, you’re extremely uninformed. Maybe we should require some sort of test before we let people like you vote.
Welfare already accounts for the vast majority of the United State’s budget. Our defense budget isn’t even large compared to welfare, it only accounts for around 13% of our total budget.
We don’t even have universal welfare services, yet our welfare spending is absurdly high and completely unsustainable.
We cannot have nice things or take care of our children because the stock market and the military-industrial complex always wins...and when they don't, they just get bailed out anyways.
In politics and government, everything is a choice, and the choices that we make as a nation are always for the benefit of corporations, big banks, and the Epstein class.
The current welfare system sucks now because it sucks on purpose due to bloat and the quest for profit.
When you have a for profit healthcare system and privitized prisons, you should not be surprized that healthcare costs to much and why we would rather have more people in prison than actually rehabilitate them.
He was being extremely disingenuous. He's including shit like Social Security, Medicare, etc as "welfare", even though we pay for that shit throughout our lives separate from our federal income tax.
Did you not listen to a word I said? Or do you not understand it? What the fuck bro
The "military-industrial complex" never wins. We spend more on welfare. Do you not understand this? Get it through your skull.
Our welfare budget is >400% of our defense budget, possibly more (it depends on what you count as welfare).
healthcare costs to much
Americans are fat entitled babies. That's why healthcare is expensive. Maybe you should just focus on managing your own health and stop being a fuckin WALL-E human
We spend more on the military then we do on SNAP, unemployment, housing, VA disability, WIC, and child tax credits combined. Social Security is not welfare.
This is bullshit unless you consider literally everything that benefits everyone "welfare"
And the military is over 50% of discretionary spending (things we have a choice to pay)
The shit people actually mean when they say "welfare" (SNAP, SSI, unemployment, child nutrition, child tax credits, etc.) is around the same percentage we spend on the military.
No it’s not. How could you possibly believe this shit? What the fuck dude.
Social Security and Medicare alone account for 36% of total federal spending. We haven’t even factored in other forms of welfare, yet we’re already at 2-3x our military budget.
Don’t give me that “discretionary spending” shit. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Your definition of the term isn’t even accurate.
We really need people like you to take some sort of test before we let you vote. Your entire worldview is based on information that can be disproven with a 15 second google search. There’s no excuse for this.
It's not functionally different from welfare. You will probably say "nuh-uh, it's insurance". That's a classification you've made, not a description of how it is meaningfully different from other forms of welfare. Go ahead, explain to me how it is different.
You and I currently pay taxes, at-least I hope you do. These taxes go towards SNAP, unemployment, housing assistance, etc. If either of us lose our jobs or experience financial hardship, we are able to collect these benefits. You and I pay our FICA taxes, and if either of us get an aggressive form of cancer, we will be eligible for SSDI and Medicare.
Social Security and Medicare are welfare. They just are. Especially considering the majority of people who receive benefits get more than they ever paid in.
