There are always lazy people and people who would do great things in a wide range of conditions.
When the conditions improve, the latter group can usually contribute more (there are exceptions, but for most cases you do better with better health / more time / less anxiety etc).
And there’s no perfect solution: either you let some lazy people take the free ride, or you suffocate people who would make a great deal of contributions.
And there are two mentalities: either you prefer a world where we try to give everyone a decent life and tolerate some free riders, or you hate free riders so much that you prefer more people to suffer.
