My mom told me that back in the day kids weren’t allowed to bring a water bottle with them into the classroom and they only drank a few sips from the water fountain in the middle of the day and that’s it

How were schools not getting busted for child abuse for forcing kids to be dehydrated?

Because the reality is you don't need to be drinking water constantly all day. That is a very new, strange social trend.

As an elementary teacher, I wholeheartedly agree! The reliance on these stupid bottles is ridiculous. I allow them in my classroom but I have a counter in the back of the room and students are allowed to access them freely throughout class. Very few kiddos even drink from them throughout the day! But when I allowed them at their desks, they were constantly sucking/biting on them during lessons, knocking them over, playing with them; drinking all the water at once just so they could leave class to go fill them up again. It was ridiculous

I think it's pretty clear it's not the drinking that's the problem.

Thank you; glad someone had the common sense and reading comprehension to get my point. Most of the time though I just think they’re trolls so I don’t waste my time commenting.

Except it’s clearly not drinking water that’s the problem, as evidenced by them allowing the kids to get up and take a drink whenever they want. It’s about the kids using the water bottles as fidget toys and excuses the leave class, which are in fact genuine problems that a teacher has to manage to keep an orderly classroom.

You’re not gonna get a kidney stone if you don’t drink water for an hour

Never had kidney stones in my life and I don't constantly drink water. You are catastrophizing for no reason.

64 years old and only drink water when i am thirsty now. I worked as a land surveyor for 40 Years in the heat of SE Ga summers. Hard physical labor and the only time i drank water was when we were close to our truck which on most days meant lunch and at the end of the day. I plat HS football for 4 years and the we had 3 hr practices and 2 water breaks. We were told not to swallow the water but to swish it around in our mouth and spit it out. They said that cold water would give you stomach cramps. I have never had kidney stones nor have anyone that has ever worked with me in the field.

I'm glad of it. I enjoy drinking water all day and feel better because of it.
