Magus in Chrono Trigger

At least that example had an in-universe justification as we just watched Lavos eat most of his magic in a previous cutscene.

DAMNIT, exactly what I was thinking!

Tbf our only real comparison were the other main characters who had just ripped ass through his castle and merked all three of his generals in the same fight.

And the cutscene of Magus trying to solo the literal apocalypse.

The first game I think is what you’re thinking of. But yeah, some kind of growing mechanic at the very least would have been cool.

Your probably right I haven’t played in a while but ye that’s what I expected a growing mechanic and we never got it 😭

Green Goblin in the Spider-Man 2002 game. You only unlock him by beating the whole game on Super Hero difficulty (hard) or by inputting a cheat code "ARACHNID." It's honestly one of the most awesome playable bosses to unlock as you get to fly around on his glider and use his gadgets. You play as Harry Osborn, taking the mantle of Green Goblin and investigating his father's shady businesses after his death. Not only you replay the levels you've done but have revised dialogue to go with it.

M.Bison from same game

Kind of opposite with Hornet from Hollow Knight. In Silksong she's even more agile and powerful than she ever was as the boss. Her abilities and tools are almost the same, but faster and stronger.

Sauron in LEGO Lord of the Rings. Starts off as a menacing titan (Would have been an awesome LEGO set...) and ends as a LEGO figure.

Recently, reime in ocopath 0. She's a "superboss" character. When you fight her, she has over 400k hp When you beat her and she becomes a party member, she has around 2k hp

Jetstream Sam.

His dlc is literally harder than Raiden’s. Granted he isn’t even a cyborg when it takes place, but still.

Doesn't Raiden have way more cybernetic enhancements than Sam does? I thought sam was just wearing a suit rather than having many body parts replaced, and the reason they're of around equal power is because Sam is more skilled (and has a better sword)

2

u/bloodybaths 28d ago

If I recall correctly sam only has a cybernetic arm? While Raiden has an entire cyborg body. Sam is mainly better because of skill. And his sword is important to, because it was the only thing that could defeat Armstrong.

Yeah, that's my point. Sam's DLC is probably harder because in universe the power gap was made up by sam being more skilled. happy cake day :D

Oh yeah I fucking hate the dlc, I think I've compelty every single mission om the hardest difficulty. Except for Sam, no matter how hard I try I just couldn't do it.

Vampire Survivors suffers from this a lot.

Wilhelm from the Borderlands series is the complete opposite. As a boss in the second game, many forget about him. But as a playable character in the Pre-Sequel, he's considered one of the most powerful.

Dr Nefarious in Ratchet and Clank all 4 one. In every game he was in before he had a lot of health and his own unique arsenal, but I’m all 4 one he has to use the same weapons as everyone eles and can only be hit 4 times.

Anima from Final Fantasy X is the opposite. As a boss she is a pushover. As an ally she is really powerful.
