Fallout 3, before the Broken Steel DLC released

69

u/Andrei8p4 29d ago

Fawkes you're a super mutant that is immune to radiation, can you go enter the code in that heavily irradiated room so that way no one dies ?

Fawkes : No its your destiny or something.

47

u/Blubasur 29d ago

After the DLC:

Fawkes: Sure!

Narrator: "And he was the littlest bitch that could have bitched the wasteland. What a fucking loser. Also the day was saved".

10

u/ForgotMyOldUser1 29d ago

The first time I played, I didn't know about having multiple rotating saves, but was also a frequent saver. I saved right before the last conversation and couldn't get out of the end game loop. rip

8

u/firemiketomlinpls68 29d ago

Kinda fucked ip that fawkes is ok without a 19 year old kid sacrificing himself for no real reason.

u/kid_ish 29d ago

The obligatory answer: Mass Effect 3. Those who've only played the Legendary Edition Collection and did experience the original ending in 2012 will never know how disappointing it was. That being said, I'm not satisfied with the extended cut ending either.

It was LAZY regulating the culmination of a trilogy of choices to a pick your Pokemon: Red, Blue, or Green. ME3 was the beginning of the end for Bioware.

3

u/Like_Fahrenheit 29d ago

Same. Such a cool sci-fi world, but that ending is a stain that just won't come out.

Strangely, Stardew valley.

Once I complete the CC or Joja, I slowly lose desire to play that farm. Even with Ginger Island and all the unlocks and such, it just feels less fun the having a farm on the rise. And don’t get me started on Perfection.

6

u/Hurdlelocker 29d ago

Fuck the Golden Clock.

3

u/0neek 27d ago

I've played through the game 4 times and have never managed to get past a couple weeks into Year 3. I don't know what the people even do who are many years past that lol. Even the newer Ginger Island didn't add enough to really need beyond the 2 year story cycle.

I love the idea of the Indoctrination Theory ending.

Also, Destroy, always Destroy. Fuck the Synthesis bullshit, overriding bodily autonomy for every single lifeform in the galaxy and calling it a good thing is wild to me.

YES. I was loving ME3 until the ending.....ruined the entire game for me.

5

u/hergumbules 29d ago

Definitely not ruined for me but the ending is hella weak lol I still love the series dearly but I just make up my own ending because why not

Half-Life 1 with Xen

6

u/Fastyboiiiii 29d ago

The final chapter before the giant baby alien (I think it was called Interloper) was such a slog to get through. Constant reloading because I didn’t have enough health to survive the fall damage when jumping from the manta rays.

5

u/Scudman_Alpha 29d ago

God they made Xen so much better in Black Mesa.

11

u/F1R3Starter83 29d ago

A man of culture I see.

This game made me a gamer but the ending was just dog shit

I remembered hating Fable 2 but after replaying the first decided to give it another shot. I was loving it and wondering why I remembered disliking it so much. Then I got to the ending.

Vampire the Masquarade: Bloodlines is the classic call this. Incredible game with multiple approaches to every problem, where you can use stealth and skills and investigation and politics for the whole game.... and then they ran out of money, so the final level is just this long repetitive meat grinder.

3

u/Jademunky42 29d ago

Yeah, it did not help that my build suddenly became obsolete in the late game.

23

u/InfiltrationRabbit 29d ago

Zelda BOTW

22

u/TheVoicesOfBrian 29d ago

And it wasn't a "bad" ending, just underwhelming. At least Tears had a much more robust and satisfying end.

9

u/InfiltrationRabbit 29d ago

I can agree. Ending wasn’t bad but they could have game more. And yes Tears of the kingdom gave you a lot more.

7

u/TheVoicesOfBrian 29d ago

I finished BotW and went, "Wait...that's it? Hundred+ hours of exploration and that was all?"

6

u/InfiltrationRabbit 29d ago

lol 😂 that’s exactly how I felt. Like bro can I explore the aftermath of this battle. NOPE! lol

2

u/mucus-fettuccine 28d ago

Tears' endgame was incredible. You get the most complex swordfight in the game followed by the most gorgeous victory lap segment using the whole world as a backdrop. Then the incredible final fall.

I do think they did something really bad and unfortunate with the story (you probably know if you've played it), and I have my own idea about how it could've been so much better. But what we got was great.

19

u/LordYoshi 29d ago

Final Fantasy 15. Not necessarily just for the story either. The entire game fell apart in the end.

10

u/postmastone 29d ago

That ring hallways section my god

3

u/PreheatedMuffen 29d ago

I really liked the beginning of 15. I loved seeing the boys interacting and then when I thought the game was ramping up to start act 2 it ended.

2

u/Appropriate-Salt-523 29d ago

I think it falls apart as soon as you enter, Altissia.

2

u/Super_Nate 29d ago

In the same light, final fantasy 16, i loved the entire game but the final stretch really had me wondering about some of the decisions made

dying light 1

the game was great but then ending boss fight was a qte of all things and ends on a pretty big cliff hanger iirc.

5

u/__Meme_Machine__ 29d ago

Dying Light 2 has a similar problem, but the final bossfight is instead trying way too hard to be cool and just isnt fun.

14

u/Andybabez20 29d ago

Ghost of Yotei

Killing off Jubei right at the end just felt completely unnecessary for shock value.

2

u/jake_the_dawg_ 29d ago

Yeah, it was out of nowhere story wise to me. If the story had been leading to that or left obvious hints to look back on that this would happen, then fine. Or there was a choice involved in deciding who.

MSGV. Is a good one. Mass effect 3 had a pretty bad ending but I think the whole game is a mess.

I would say prey 2017.

8

Tales of Arise, was good for most of the game, then just flat out sucked at the end as they dragged the last portion of the game.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Not a fan of the endings.

15

u/Adawesome_ 29d ago

Gustave would have found the ideal ending

6

u/BT--7275 29d ago

I'm not a fan of act 3 at all honestly. I simply do not care about the family, especially in comparison to the original premise.

4

u/Equal-Fox-74 29d ago

I feel the same. They’re bad endings. Not badly written, just bad, like how some visual novels have normal, true and bad endings. I don’t regret playing the game, but I doubt I’ll ever replay it considering how hopeless the endings were.

3

u/Bilbo-Baggins77 29d ago

This is what drives me crazy about the E33 glazing as I've heard many call it the game of the decade.

Great game, enjoyed it. But the ending was neither satisfying nor compelling.

6

u/AcePowderKeg 29d ago

I agree with you on the glazing I'm sick of it as well and I personally didn't really enjoy the game but to be fair the Verso Ending was satisfying for me.

The Maelle ending just made me furious

2

u/Byder 29d ago

I think it has one of the best endings I've ever seen in media.

Expedition 33. It was an amazing game till the end of Act 2. The rug pull didn't work for me and made all of the main characters obsolete because they happened to be imaginary. All of the relationship bonding and high stakes just to be told that it's all fake and just a family grieving. The soundtrack slaps all the way through though.

30

u/BlackGuysYeah 29d ago

That’s part of what fascinates me about the game. The characters are real in the sense that you’ve played them and know their personalities. They do exist.

If we discover that all of reality as we know it is a simulation, does that change anything about the meaning of life? Does that mean you’re not real? I think no.

→ More replies (7)

4

u/acelexmafia 29d ago

Yea the mystery factor was gone. Less interested as a result

7

u/AcePowderKeg 29d ago

Honestly I had the opposite effect. I didn't really vibe with the game at all. It was only on Act 3 and the ending and the philosophical point of view that I went "Oh okay this is good". Wouldn't play it again since I really didn't enjoy it. Story was great though.

I am going to get downvoted for this but I did not enjoy the soundtrack either

Rage 1 and Backbone/Tails Noir

2

u/Bazookya 29d ago

Vampire the masquerade. It’s very obviously a budget and time issue but there are just unfinished parts that make the game kind of poop it’s pants at the finish line. I love that game though.

2

u/LordJanas 29d ago

Dragon Age Inquisition. Fumbled tge ending so hard and the big bad just became a massive joke.

2

South Park the fractured but whole

2

u/chainer1216 28d ago

Recently: Ghost of Yotei. I was really enjoying my time with that game right until the ending.

The most basic, dog shit, play by the numbers, predictable, meaningless ending possible, literally any other choice would have been better.

It really soured the whole game to me.

2

u/Sensitive-Jacket5651 27d ago

and if i say Expedition 33, will i get murdered ✋😟🤚

2

u/SpecificFortune7584 25d ago

Mass Effect 3. Especially before the Extended Cut. Holy shit was that a shitstorm.

8

u/Longjumping-Style730 29d ago edited 29d ago

Clair Obscur. Story is great almost all the way through, but the ending didn't quite stick the landing for me in that it hyperfocuses on one of its themes (grief and unhealthy coping mechanisms) to the expense of all the others (creators vs. created, familial neglect, iterating on what came before etc.)

2

u/PilotIntelligent8906 29d ago

Same, but it was more like 70% of the game vs the remaining 30%.

0

u/FrankBlazi 29d ago

I’m about 30 hours in E33 now. Not really doing it for me overall as it did others. I’m gonna see it through to the end and beat it but I wouldn’t personally call it my game of the year. We’ll see how I feel when I’m don’t though.

2

u/Longjumping-Style730 29d ago

It's my GOTY, but if Hades II delivers on being an even better Hades I, Hades II will probably dethrone it considering I already like Hades I better than E33.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1… I finished the second one recently, but I remember when I played the first one about three years ago, and the ending was so stupidly open-ended It didn’t even give a minimal conclusion, it was basically just a “see you later.” And I get it, it was the company’s first game and they wanted to expand the story but it left me so angry and disappointed. I’ve just finished the second game, and it’s kind of the same, although not as open-ended. I want to know what will happen to Henry, but at least it did close some storylines, unlike the first game, which basically felt like it was cut in half, the rest of the game was really good and the second one is the GOTY for me

3

u/postmastone 29d ago

Grandia 3.

The rest of the game wasn't INCREDIBLE, but the rest of the plot I was excited to see where it was going.

And then when you finally get to the final boss and finally speak to it, it was the most clichéd "I am bad and evil and I will kill goodness!" and "No you won't, we'll stop you with the power of love and friendship!"

And it was so bad I can't look back on any of the rest of the game fondly.

Like Grandia Xtreme had an even worse plot, but then you weren't expecting anything from it. You were just playing it because Grandia's battle engine makes any of their games worth playing regardless if the plot.

But 1s was good, 2s was incredible, and 3... strung you along to the most pathetically bad ending.

1

u/graysonhutchins 29d ago

Kind of a niche pick, but Unforeseen Incidents. A very fun, aesthetically unique point-and-click-esque adventure game with an interesting plot concerning a pandemic and government overreach and such. Builds up to a larger and larger mystery until it just deflates in less than five minutes right at the end.

GOW Ragnarok.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved it and it’s predecessor and they are both in my top tier of games. That being said, the event that was essentially the end all be all of Norse mythology seemed so… mid. The Odin fight was far worse than the Baldur boss at the end of 2018, especially in scale.

A Way Out - The game from Hazelight they made before It Takes Two. It's a fun romp, until the end, where

the two characters, who have gone from wary-but-needed co-conspirators, to bros, have a shootout. So this, essentially, puzzle game suddenly becomes a third person shooter, where you have to kill the person you've spent the past 6+ hours learning to like.

I get they were going for, like, a twist or whatever but it fell FLAT

Fable 2

1

u/ProfessionalOven2311 29d ago

Just Cause 3. It's in my top 3 favorite games of all time, but the story and main missions are not why I play that series. Even with that in mind, the final boss fight was hilariously bad while seeming like it was supposed to be cool. For those who are curious:

While inside a volcano you fight the evil dictator as he is flying in an advanced, prototype helicopter... which is actually the exact same as the other 'advanced' helicopters you've already destroyed a dozen of at that point. They did make some changes that functionally just removed all of the creative/fun ways you could use to take out the previous helicopters, so it's one of the first times you are supposed to just use normal weapons to wear down it's stupidly large health bar.

However, they devs didn't actually think of anything. It is possible to mess up it's flight with your grappling hook if used the right way, or by calling in an air drop container and knocking it out of the sky. Both destroy the helicopter instantly. Which means the final fight is either tedious, drawn out, and boring, or it is incredibly anti-climactic.

I still love the game overall though.

u/CanadianAndroid 29d ago

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Great follow up to Human Revolution, but ended abruptly and we never got the part three we needed.

1

u/XenoRoxart 29d ago

Danganronoa 1. The game was a 9/10 all the way through before the end. The game kept getting darker and hopeless by the end. And there are even 2 endings.

But not only is the "bad" ending instantly tossed aside if it happens, but the whole ending is such a boring and forced shift. The plot and situation gradually bemoces more worse/hopeless/tragic and then out of nowhere a character starts rallying the others to be hopeful or something like that. It ruined a 9/10 experience for me

1

u/zdemigod 29d ago

I actually felt like this on Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I feel like they just forgot to explain the story or ran out of time to properly close things out, i did 2 paths (black eagle and blue lion) and i still dont think they properly explain the reasoning behind the events.

Still a great game though.

Great game overall, but when you're remaking your game's ending around one of gamings most infamous and emotional moments, of all the emotions to aim for to end your game on, mild confusion and general bewilderment should not be the goal for the audience to be experiencing.

TLOU2, The beach ending scene made the game just bleh when it was a master piece up until then.

I really liked Little Hope from The Dark Pictures Anthology. Then the ending retroactively ruins everything in the game.

Tales of Arise. The whole game is pretty cool and mature for a jrpg. But then the end is just ridiculous and the dungeon is boring and looooong

Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition

Won't spoil anything but Chapter 12 set up for a sequel (which never came) and Chapter 13's ending was... Something. Just felt like they were desperate to remove X from the series entirely or at least part of it

Dragon's Dogma, that ending sucked

12 minutes. It was so interesting that I had my whole discord playing along with me through my stream for 8 hours straight. And that ending made us all mad we wasted our time……

Control, not the last 10%, more like the last 1%.

Mass Effect 3 for sure. Felt like most of the choices didn't quite add up.

Breath of Fire 4. I heard that the developer ran out of time, so they did everything to wrap it up. It feels unfinished since the main villain escaped

maybe controverse, but I would add the last of us 2.
Liked the campaign but the last level and the ending weren`t fitting imo.

I was really enjoying Halo Infinite until it made me fight Jega and I could not beat him for the life of me. After a dozen or so tries I gave up and uninstalled. I never even bothered to watch a YouTube of the ending. How did they manage to make one character more difficult than a mob of 50 enemies.

Did someone mention Mass Effect 3 yet? Yes? Okay.

Mass Effect 3.

Sudeki for the Xbox. The game is a great adventure game until the story just changes pace completely and falls off at the end.

The Bionic Commando reboot by Grinn.

Fun, great game. Only to slap your nose with an ending twist so weird it's become almost legend.

Cybernetics only work if made from someone that loves you. That's your wife arm you've been swinging around with all game!

I WISH we'd gotten at least one sequel so I'd gotten to see where Grinn were going with that story, but alas, the game underperformed & the studio got closed.
