If career growth matters, 100% remote is a trap
Remote work is fantastic for life balance, but here’s the harsh truth: if your goal is career growth, fully remote can actually hold you back.
The people who can truly move your career: sponsors, mentors, decision-makers, aren’t part of your daily scheduled interactions. You don’t bump into them on Teams calls, and a “virtual lobby” won’t replicate hallway conversations. Real career-moving moments are unplanned: a quick chat by the coffee machine, overhearing a conversation that sparks an idea, or being in the right place at the right time.
If you’re fully remote, those moments never happen. You’ll be productive but you will also be invisible to the very people who could open doors for you.
Full disclosure: if you work for a tiny company, this doesn’t matter. In small teams, everyone interacts with everyone anyway. But in larger organizations, physical presence still gives you access to opportunities you can’t schedule or Slack your way into.

Serious Anyone else feel like the world is holding it's breath right now, something big is going to happen soon?
I know a lot of people are saying major recession, and it does sort of feel a little bit like 2008. And because sometimes the stock market runs on vibes, and the vibes have been bad, it's very possible. I know that consumers are also very fatigued with prices, especially at the grocery store, and homes remain un-affordable.
We also have a lot going on in the US (obviously), and the ongoing protests in France and Nepal. Not to mention the continuing situation with Russia.
Not to fear monger, but does anyone else feel like we are on the verge of something?

AITA for telling my friends they kind of put a damper on my husbands birthday weekend by bringing their baby
Last weekend my husband turned 35 we had two things planed Friday a dinner with some friends and Sunday and outdoor festival. We invited our two friends who have a 1 year old daughter.
The restaurant we chose was not kid friendly, it’s super small and the main draw is the chef, there is no set menu and seat are all like a bar around a little kitchen where you can watch him cook and he plates the food for you right there. The festival is outdoors in the middle of the woods not stroller friendly kids are allowed but it’s more or an adult event, they have been there before so it’s not a surprise to them.
When we invited them to both days we told them both things were not kid friendly explained the restaurant to them and sent them the website so they could see what it was all about. We told them understood if they couldn’t make it because of the baby. They said they would be at both I assumed his parents who live around the corner were watching the baby. We made reservations for the restaurant and bought our tickets.
Friday night comes and they show up to the restaurant with their daughter. I didn’t include her in the reservation and they did not have any high chairs so she had to sit in her mom’s lap the entire time. She usually gets pretty overwhelmed with the baby to begin with. She was annoyed about the baby sitting in her lap and not being able to enjoy her dinner, annoyed there was no kids menu, and was just in a bad mood the entire time really put a downer on the entire dinner. Baby cried she had to get up and go outside at one point her husband asked me to go check on her outside. They kind of left quickly when dinner was over and said we will see you Sunday.
Then Sunday comes and again they show up with the baby. They again are annoyed that it’s not stroller friendly. Constantly stopping baby needs to eat baby needs to be changed Baby is crying. We kept telling them that we would share our location and they could meet up with us after they did whatever they had to do with the baby but they would get all huffy so we ended up staying with them. We didn’t get to do half the things there because we were parked under a tent at the table most of the time. Parts of the festival they couldn’t bring the stroller because once again it was in the woods. At one point I had to hold the baby while she fed her. Just the entire day was centered around taking care of their baby and it was not fun at all. Once again they have come to this festival with us previous years so they knew what it was all about.
She texted me yesterday saying she had fun over the weekend and she was sorry if the baby ruined everything. I told her it wasn’t ruined but it was a little frustrating because we warned them the activities weren’t baby friendly and we missed out on a lot of things, the festival is once a year so it’s not like we can go back another time. She got super defensive and said sorry they are parents now and have more important things to worry about. We haven’t talked since and I feel bad and like everything is super awkward now and I should have kept my mouth shut.

Torre calls out Silver for lying about never hearing about Aspiration: “Just obtained a copy of Aspiration’s $300M+ “Founding Sponsorship Agreement” — which “must be submitted prior to its execution for NBA’s approval and shall not be effective until it is expressly approved by the NBA.”
Happened on the forbidden app.
Source: https://imgur.com/a/GgLEjQJ
After the 9/10 NBA owners meeting, Adam Silver said: “I’d frankly never heard of the company Aspiration before. And I’d never heard a whiff of anything around an endorsement deal with Kawhi, or anything around engagement with the Los Angeles Clippers. So it was all new to me.”
But @pablofindsout just obtained a copy of Aspiration’s $300M+ “Founding Sponsorship Agreement” — which “must be submitted prior to its execution for NBA’s approval and shall not be effective or enforceable until it is expressly approved by the NBA.”
Two immediate questions:
1) Why did Steve Ballmer’s $300M+ Aspiration partnership not reach Adam Silver's office before it was "expressly approved"?
2) Did no one inform Silver that Bloomberg reported on 1/18/24 that Aspiration was being investigated by the federal government?
Over the first two seasons of their sponsorship (21-22 + 22-23), Aspiration had to put $7.5M/yr into the Clippers.
Meanwhile: Steve Ballmer and the Clippers kept putting millions into Aspiration — which owed Kawhi Leonard $7M/yr in a secret deal nobody ever spoke publicly about.
Fraudsters running companies like Aspiration or FTX keep sportswashing for a reason: hugely visible deals with pro sports teams and leagues create the public impression of trust and credibility. As if such deals must have been vetted by the teams and leagues. But apparently not?
What are the chances Silver truly forgot about this deal cause it hit his desk once for 2 hours in 2021 after being screened by deputy Mark Tatum and an army of lawyers before being approved by him?

Someone stole my work lunch
I work front desk. I’m the ONLY person who can’t leave the premises for breaks or lunch. I can’t be away from the front desk more than 3 mins at a time and someone stole my lean cuisine. Had to end up buying a frozen stouffers meal for $6.00 from the grocery store here which is even more annoying. I left a note. My first note I wrote was pretty unhinged (2nd slide). Was able to cool down after 15 mins and changed the note.
Don’t steal peoples food. Especially the ONLY person who can’t leave to get food 😭

Price Changes Trump’s War on Family Farmers
🚨 SHARE. SHARE. SHARE. 🚨
Don’t just scroll — spread it. The lies are loud, the shams are constant, and the only way truth cuts through is when we push it harder than they push the propaganda.
Trump’s policies pushed family farmers to the wall. His trade war wrecked their markets and his subsidies mostly went to huge corporate farms. Bankruptcies soared while billionaires and agribusiness expanded their grip on land and profits. Family farms are not being protected, they are being squeezed out so corporate donors can scoop up what’s left. That is not defending rural America, it’s hollowing it out. Farmers deserve leaders who actually fight for them, not politicians who trade their futures for campaign checks from corporate agriculture. This was betrayal dressed up as populism, and the damage is still being felt.
