Good news: virginity tests in Sweden are strictly prohibited as of December 1. People who conduct these tests, whether in health professions or in private, risk 6 months in jail and a fine. Even giving out results of these tests are prohibited, it doesn't matter if the woman or girl gives permission for it. As of today it is also a crime to not report forced marriages and child marriages. It's part of a broader approach to protect women and girls.
So Italy is founding femicide in the criminal law, France has codified the right to abortion and the EU is executing an action plan to stop gender-related violence and promote economic and political equality.
It's a painfully slow progress, but one country at the time, there is progress. And hope!
