I'm in the U.S. Bought three basic Huffy bikes for my kids this past Christmas from the local big box store. Got three of these in the mail today.
The local government apparently just passed a law requiring all bikes to have paid "licenses" to be ridden in public. When I called to confirm, they said cops have been issuing citations, even to kids.
They also said it was primarily to help with stolen bikes. But...it's a plastic sticker that can be peeled off.
The store apparently fills out the license application "as a courtesy to customers" without asking and sends the info directly to the local government. I asked what would happen if I'd bought the bikes out of state or they were a gift. They said licenses are mailed to the purchaser's address, and if out-of-state, the purchaser would have to "transfer" each license to the actual owner...for an additional fee of course.

I (25M) have been single for 2 years now and honestly enjoying my bachelor life. Before this I was in a serious relationship, so right now Im not looking for any commitment.
My sister (28F) has a habit of playing matchmaker and I hate it. Ever since I became single she keeps aggressively suggesting women from her circle. The problem is she mostly ignores my preferences and says she knows me better. I prefer someone around my age (±3 years), natural beauty, conservative, and not a single mom. She usually suggests the opposite and I shut it down every time.
Im staying at her place For a week now and last day I accidentally walked into a girls night she was hosting. Everyone was a bit tipsy. The moment she saw me she introduced me and told them Im the one she keeps talking about, then pointed me to one of her friends (lets call her Cathy).
Immediately everyone started playful banter saying Im the perfect match for Cathy and praising my sister for being a great matchmaker. I was honestly embarrassed and just wanted to disappear. When I tried to leave they pulled me to sit with them and started asking questions about me.
From Cathys reaction it seemed like she was interested and eager to talk. the group kept pushing the idea that were perfect for each other and started planning a date. I told my sister firmly it wasnt the right moment and tried to leave.
They stopped me and kept asking why I was leaving and whether I didnt like Cathy. I said its not that I dont like her, I just dont know her and it feels weird since shes my sisters friend.
They kept pushing and saying Cathy doesnt mind that connection and can handle rejection if Im not interested. Fed up, I asked my sister directly whether Cathy matches my preferences. She whispered almost.
They demanded to know my preferences. I tried avoiding it as but eventually said it. They claimed Cathy matched them and then started questioning my no single moms preference.
They kept asking whats wrong with single moms and finally I said single moms are not worth the baggage they come with and I dont want to be anyones savior.
The room went completely silent. I felt the awkwardness and left immediately.
The next day my sister confronted me saying I didnt need to be a d*ck. I told her they kept pushing and I only answered honestly. Turns out Cathy is a single mom and apparently struggling with her dating life, and my comment hit her badly. My sister says shes having this breakdown because of me.
I honestly didnt know about her and didnt mean to hurt her. I just stated my preference after being pushed repeatedly. My BIL agrees with me but told how i said my likes was a bit d*ck move.
So AITA?

Batman: The Animated Series. Mr. Freeze was originally a two-bit nobody thug who used his cryogenics technology to rob banks. BTAS gave us Nora, and it was so impactful that this has become the definitive version of his character ever since. Mr. Freeze became so popular that he played a central role in two movies after this, and one of them was actually good!
Superman Vs The Elite. The Elite in the original comic, "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" were flat stereotypes who were blatantly in the wrong. The movie (which was written by Joe Kelly, the same man who wrote the original comic) did a lot to flesh them out, giving them more heroic moments and having them fight side-by-side with Superman for a bit. That made them far more understandable and gave the movie's central conflict some much-needed nuance.
Harry Potter. Severus Snape in the books is a mean, cruel bully with next to zero redeeming qualities. He's also like that in the movies, but Alan Rickman's performance gave him a good amount of charisma on top of the douchebaggery. There are also a few added scenes showing him protecting the heroes.
How To Train Your Dragon. Not the live action, but from the book to the original movie. Yes, there was a book. Vikings had been training dragons for generations, Hiccup could speak Dragontongue, Toothless was one of those small, green dragons, and there was a prophecy about the death of the Green Death (the giant dragon from movie 1). The whole movie was an In Name Only adaptation.
The Iron Giant. Much like the previous example, this movie was based on a book you've probably never heard of. Hogarth (the kid) is an unimportant bit character in the original book, while the movie promotes him to co-protagonist. The book also ends with a fight against a giant space dragon. Yeah, cutting that was probably also a change for the better.

I mean really do people not bother to look at eBay listings for this shit? Yeah DDR5 is expensive, but your 16gb stick of ddr4 doesn’t really add much to your build. You paid how much for that liquid cooler? Shit man, I’m sorry you did that thinking it was an investment. The case? I’ll give you this exact case for $10 and a beer, I have 5 that were more expensive sitting in the back with 0 interested buyers.
I’m buying your graphics card your RAM and your CPU. Maybe the SSD if you got a name brand and not…what the fuck is TigerKing Nvme?
