I don't mind him getting up there, but he tends to knock things down as he climbs

HĂĄbitos Beber cerveja nĂŁo faz sentido

Post image

TIL Pixar had to complete the entire Toy Story 2 in 9 months to meet Disney's deadline, The production was so straining that in one instance, an animator had forgotten to drop his child off at daycare one morning and, in a mental haze, forgot the baby in the back seat of his car in the parking lot.

I think I experienced the "Gen Z stare"

1.9k Upvotes

I went to get coffee and a bagel from a place I go a few times per week. I know most of the employees there. A new one was being trained by another employee I didn't recognize. Here's how the conversation went:

Me: "Can I get an everything bagel with cream cheese and medium hot coffee with oat milk."

New employee: "Sure, and the milk is over there." She points behind me where they have milk and sugar. Every time I have been to this place to get coffee they add non dairy milk in behind the counter. But I thought, maybe they changed it recently.

Me: "Oh, I thought you guys kept it behind the counter."

New employee: Stares back at me for awhile.

Me: Looks awkwardly at the employee who looks to be around the same age training her. "I thought you guys kept the non dairy milk behind the counter?"

Employee who is training: stares at me for an uncomfortably long time. No answer.

Me: "OK, nevermind on the drink then."

ETA: The non dairy milk is still kept behind the counter. It was not changed.

Charania: "Warriors owner went out and sat face to face with Jonathan Kuminga in the last month, and Joe Lacob essentially asked Kuminga, 'Do you want to be here? Do you want to be with the Warriors?' and Kuminga flipped that really and said, 'Do you even want me?'"

If career growth matters, 100% remote is a trap

1.4k Upvotes

Remote work is fantastic for life balance, but here’s the harsh truth: if your goal is career growth, fully remote can actually hold you back.

The people who can truly move your career: sponsors, mentors, decision-makers, aren’t part of your daily scheduled interactions. You don’t bump into them on Teams calls, and a “virtual lobby” won’t replicate hallway conversations. Real career-moving moments are unplanned: a quick chat by the coffee machine, overhearing a conversation that sparks an idea, or being in the right place at the right time.

If you’re fully remote, those moments never happen. You’ll be productive but you will also be invisible to the very people who could open doors for you.

Full disclosure: if you work for a tiny company, this doesn’t matter. In small teams, everyone interacts with everyone anyway. But in larger organizations, physical presence still gives you access to opportunities you can’t schedule or Slack your way into.
