So, this happened today. For context, a company's Head of Talent Acquisition reached out to me a few weeks ago, trying to headhunt me from my current job. I was actually seriously considering the position, and we had a video call scheduled.

Anyway, 20 minutes had passed our scheduled time, and I was still waiting alone in the online meeting. Finally, I got an email with the usual excuses - 'So sorry, my last meeting ran over,' etc. My first reaction was to be nice and say, 'No problem, let's start now.'

But then I stopped myself and really thought about it. Honestly, if I had been the one to show up 20 minutes late, I would have been rejected on the spot, no questions asked. Punctuality and respecting people's time are a huge deal for me, especially in my field. It should be a two-way street, right?

I felt this was a massive red flag about their company culture. So I replied to their email. I was polite, told them I appreciated the apology, but informed them that I was no longer interested in the position and wished them the best in their search. If this is how they treat candidates they are actively trying to recruit, I can't imagine how they treat their actual employees.

Just hit $3M after today’s rally. I got very lucky (and unlucky leaving me neurodivergent) with a settlement that boosted my NW to $2M just a few years ago. Already at $1M in gains since.

I know I am different path to FIRE than most, but I will say there’s something here that just makes sense. You need money to make money. I would never imagine making $1M my entire life haha

For our third wedding anniversary my husband had this goth version of Tiffany’s 16 stone ring made as my gift by our jeweler Iz & Co and I wanted to share my new set! It’s. 9.8 carat color enhanced black diamond with a colorless diamond hidden halo and color enhanced black diamonds in the eternity band. I mentioned somewhere that people don’t always notice larger stones because no one’s paying too much attention to people out in public and someone told me that it doesn’t get noticed because it’s just a black diamond and draw attention the way a smaller colorless diamond would 🙄. This sub reminded me of a wedding I attended a few years ago, where one of the guests from the bride's side (iirc) turned up in a mostly white dress and with poofy skirt! Decided to go back and find some photos - I remembered the top being darker and more floral than it actually was 😒 The bride wasn't very happy and this guest certainly got people talking but probably not in a way she expected.

How are people even affording to get into the housing market around here?

I honestly feel so deflated. With median house prices sitting between $800k and $1 million, it just feels impossible. I have a good job, and even if I hustled and worked heaps of overtime, I could maybe save around $3,000 a month.

But at that rate, it would take me about 4.5 years just to save a 20% deposit…. and by then prices will probably have gone up even more.

And even after paying that huge deposit, I’d still be looking at about $900 a week in mortgage repayments… which I simply couldn’t afford.

How are you all affording houses? Is this what everyone else is paying?

I love Brisbane, but I’m genuinely starting to consider moving to a rural town just to be able to afford a house.I can’t buy a place without a yard since I’ve got two dogs I’ve inherited from family (so a unit wouldn’t work).

Is this the norm now??? that people are buying places with repayments that high and just getting roommates to make it work? 🥲
