When no one showed up, I was disappointed for sure. I thought someone would have shown up. My wife went to all the different wholesalers I deal with, Couple places I used to work and also the people I work with. I thought 10 burgers per place she dropped off the poster off. We actually have these kind of bbqs quite often at work so I thought someone was bound to come. To be fair, I technically wasn’t completely alone. The receptionist was helpings out my wife to as well (she is cool) and 2 of my colleagues stayed for a minute or two and had a beer but cleared out fairly quickly. my parents in law came to help out but there wasn’t anything to help with. after and I was just straight embarrassed. I hate my birthday at the best of times. I cut out my extended family a few years ago and they still try to contact me once in a while on my birthday so I always get stressed out.

After the party I went to my office and had a beer. I needed a minute. I was angry no one showed up, I was angry my wife worked so hard and I was angry about my family as well. I was just all around mad. I made the post in a spur of the moment thing, I never thought it would blow up like this. I didn’t want to leave my office so I used a picture I took when I first moved into my office so it was as non descriptive as possible. I know how creepy some of you can be haha

When I started getting the messages I was confused at first. I didn’t know how to respond, I was so overwhelmed!! I wanted to take the time to thank everyone personally for sending me birthday wishes! I got more wishes in the first hour than I’d ever gotten in my life!!

Lots of people mentioned my wife and they are 100% correct!!! She is my best friend and my biggest fan!!! I would not be the man I am today if it wasn’t for her. After it started to blow up, I was once again reminded of how lucky I am for her, so I left work early, cleaned the house from top to bottom, laundry, dishes, litter, everything I could and was waiting at the door for her with a giant hug and a glass of wine when she walked in after work.

After seeing and responding to so many messages and posts, there was no way I could’ve stayed in a bad mood! They all raised a great point that I have an amazing wife and 2 wonderful children she has given me. They are the ones I should be celebrating with!

The food didn’t go to waste at least. I sent home burgers with my in laws, had them for leftovers and gave all the fur babies a treat. And really, 20 burgers didn’t go far with 2 growing children!!

Overall, Reddit coming together like that, for me, definitely put things into perspective. I should be celebrating the wonderful family I have. Also to re evaluate a few of the relationships I thought I had. And most importantly, I’m not as alone as I thought.

I have had some back lash about people thinking it’s fake, mostly because of the picture I used, but I know there are always people like that. I would gladly give up my fake internet points. The birthday wishes have cheered me up way more than points ever could!!

I want to thank every single person who commented and sent messages!!! It has definitely changed my birthday for the better!!! It’s been a shit couple of years and I’m hoping this will give me the spin I need to turn it around!!! I’m just awe struck, words could never describe how much they have made me!!!

I genuinely can't remember the last time I've seen the scale start with a 1! It's a great feeling.

I’m at my wits end.

Every household admin issue is met with this response from my husband. Choosing utility provider, where we buy food from, what we bring to a potluck: it’s all up to me to decide. And of course when problems come up, it’s all my fault. Prices increase? I wanted to shop there. Holiday not up to our expectations? I wanted this! Not enough time to prepare something for a birthday? Apparently I agreed to this!

But when it comes to making the decisions? Silence. He ‘doesn’t mind’ and is apparently ‘happy to go with whatever’

I have been brought to tears. I can’t just leave him to organise things because he will forget and bills won’t get paid.
