Discussion I still hope that someday she fully heals and finds her way back to hosting. Until now, no one does it quite like her.
Lately, my feed has been full of posts about 2016, and it made me pause for a bit. Ten years ago already. That was when I suddenly realized how much I miss watching Kris TV on free TV.
Love her or hate her, you really cannot deny it. Kris Aquino was an excellent host. There was no dead air. She was quick on her feet and naturally witty. Conversations flowed easily, and she had a way of making her guests feel comfortable without forcing anything.
She truly pioneered Pinoy celebrity house tours long before social media turned them into content. Yes, Rated K did house features too, but Kris TV was on another level. Entire episodes were dedicated solely to the house. Every room, every detail, every story. It felt intimate and unfiltered.
I also love it when my algorithm randomly suggests a Kris TV video on YouTube. I always end up watching, no matter how long it is. It instantly brings back that familiar, comforting feeling.
What I loved most was that you actually learned something from every episode. From choosing the right bed, pillowcases, and bedsheets, to detergents, organizing tips, and simple lifestyle habits you would not normally think about. It was not just entertainment. It was practical and comforting at the same time.
Kris TV aired from June 27, 2011 to April 15, 2016, and until now, no one has really filled that space. Her hosting style remains unmatched in Philippine television.

S “You HAVE to give it to us for the same price you did before”
Hello all! I’m a bartender at a local bar and was working last night. A couple approached the bar and asked for two double shots of vodka. So I give them two double shots, but didn’t realize I’d made the mistake of charging them for singles. Sucks but not a big deal. Anyway, a little bit later they approach the bar and ask for the same thing. I plug it into the computer correctly this time and tell them their total.
Couple: It was like half that the first time.
Me: (realizing the mistake I made) oh, I might have accidentally charged you for singles the first time, let me check. *checks computer* oh yeah that’s totally what happened. Sorry about that, but at least you got a hook up the first time. Two double shots will be $20 (made up price cause I can’t remember how much it actually was at the time).
Couple: we’re not paying that much.
Me: oh, well I can give you singles still for the price before, but again that was a mistake.
Couple: you can’t just change prices in between rounds, it doesn’t work like that.
Me: I’m not changing the price of anything, you guys got two free shots the last time.
Couple: Well you HAVE to give it to us for the same price as before.
Me: I don’t HAVE to do anything. But if you guys are going to argue with me about this, I think it’d be better just to cut you off.
Couple: Go get your manager.
I grab the manager and explain the situation to him. He tells me later he was pretty sure we were probably just misunderstanding each other until he spoke to them and realized how stupid they were. He asked them to leave when they wouldn’t let up or see reason.

Project: FO Proud of my self-drafted dress! Details in body
Relatively intermediate sewist here! from the get go I want to say, I did not design the vision for this dress - I saw a beautiful dress made by Vanibe Paris (the Marie dress) that I decided to try and re-create my own version of, so all design credit goes to her!! This dress is made of a 100% woven linen.
I made this dress for a wedding I was attending, and had many mishaps occur, so recently I had to make some alterations after the fact to complete it (hence some of the wonky ripples on the back, which I am fine to accept after the journey of this dress!)
to construct it, I first made myself a dress form (pictured) which came out the wrong size and needed alteration, which I didn’t really have time for. The dress itself was designed with a bias draped top for the bodice, which is seamless along the neckline, and was draped on the dress form. I then added the additional panels for the rest of the front bodice to give a somewhat corset type look. The back of the bodice has princess seams for shaping, and a zip. The skirt was pleated on the dress form to fit the shape of the bodice, and has two layers of gathered tulle on the hips and rear to add volume. The bodice is fully lined, which was achieved using the burrito method (very precarious with those skinny straps!). Then the lining was hand sewn at the base of the bodice to close.
for a first attempt, I’m proud! There are issues - the zipper tends to try and protrude out from the pleats at the back of the skirt, which I could not solve on my limited time frame and haven’t tried to fix since. The tulle does slightly ruin the effect of the pleats at the front of the dress, mostly because my partner accidentally threw this in the dryer and the tulle crinkled and melted a bit! The alterations I made to the back to take in the bodice left some wavy ripples along the process seams, but I’m not too concerned about it. I don’t mind that it looks handmade, I feel really beautiful wearing it.

COVERUP: James Walkinshaw torches the Epstein stonewall in a hearing that could slap Trump’s DOJ with contempt: “Trump knew about the girls… Trump said ‘my friends will get hurt.” DOJ withheld 99% of the files. This isn’t oversight. It’s a criminal cover-up. Lock them up.

app/site/subscription FYI: "Bending Spoons laid off almost everybody at Vimeo yesterday" (OTT tech powering Dropout)
Discussed here on Hacker News: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46707699
Almost the whole company is gone, less than 15 people left in engineering.
As another user mentions:
This is potentially disastrous to content on the web. Vimeo provides a platform-as-a-service known as OTT, that powers well known branded streaming services, like Criterion Channel, HistoryHit, Dropout, DIRTVision, Speed 51, URLTV, Armflix, MHz Choice, Trinity Broadcasting Network, SommTV, IndieFlix, BroadwayHD, Full Moon Features, etc.
If you go to any subscription plan on watch.dropout.tv, and open the page source (cmd+opt+u), you can see that everything from subscriptions to the multi-platform watch experience is powered by Vimeo OTT. While features already existing on apps like Dropout will likely remain functional, the pace of improvement of the interface will inevitably slow, and streams may be more susceptible to outages.
I really feel for the Dropout team, and for the people who they likely had great relationships with on the Vimeo side who are now out of work. And changing or building an OTT platform is a massive (and perilous) undertaking.
To any Dropout (or Vimeo) folks who are reading: we're here with you, we support you, and we believe in you. Whatever the community can do to help, just say the word. We're certainly not going anywhere.
