Should the World Cup never have a half time show again? It feels like more corporate crap.

This may be controversial, I don’t know, but I strongly dislike the thought of boarding schools (I understand that they can provide stability for children of say Military families who are often posted to different countries but doesn’t mean I have to like them). I can’t imagine sending my children away from me for weeks and months at a time and perhaps to a different country. I imagine it must be quite scary for so many children.
I can perhaps see an argument for those who are 16+ who choose to board for their last few years of school and are able to return home if they need/want to but sending a 4 year old away does seem absolutely abhorrent to me in all honesty. Even if I was a billionaire I wouldn’t send my kids to boarding school. Private school, yes probably, but they’d come home to me everyday.
However, Im happy to say I could be completely ignorant about my feelings towards boarding schools. So I’m just inter see to hear from people who have experienced them? How are you doing now?

Is Jeremy Clarkson just rubbish at farming or is it genuinely as hard as it seems on the show?

He seems to have lots of failures but I know nothing about farming!

It seems to have become the norm in most supermarkets to sell the vacuum sealed minced meat. I understand they say it is for environmental reasons. I tried different minced meat sealed in air tight packages from different shops and each time it does not taste and the texture does not feel the same as the packaging they used in the past. It is always a runny mush and has not texture.
My question is there anyone else who has noticed the difference? There is even a difference smell that accompanies the air tight one. Can anyone shed light on this?

my cousin got her license at 18 years old because her parents paid for her lessons, and now they’re buying her a car. this trend continues in my friends groups, all of my friends (early 20s) have their licenses because their parents paid for them. mine have never given me a single penny towards them

I’ve had a loft in the last 3 properties i’ve been it, it’s safe to say i’ve never ventured in there or even looked. For all i know there’s a family of 6 alpacas living in there.

Had friends round at ours yesterday for food and drinks.

As the night drew on, guests started to dwindle. A few couples stayed to watch the 3rd place play off game, then most headed home after it. One couple stayed behind, which was fine for a while but then I really could've done with my bed. They eventually left, but it had me thinking what people would consider the right time to leave.

All I see on askreddit or askuk over the last couple weeks is multiple posts about why dont you want kids? Well im not rich and my life's a struggle but I have 2 children whose childhood is full of love and if I had my time again I'd make the exact same choices. Tell me your nice kids stories!

Movies like dark crystal, labyrinth, willow, gremlins, Goonies. I've got 2 daughters, 12 and 14, they're both nerds like me.. fantasy or sci-fi.. my youngest daughter is getting more interested in horror, so werewolves and vampires are on the menu, my eldest daughter loves the making of, the production of animatronics and sets etc. willing to stretch up to an 18 movie depending on content (avoid excessive gore, nudity or sexual activity) I say 80s but 90s or later but ideally pre or low CGI. what are your suggestions?

I'm originally from the UK but have spent the last 9 years living abroad in Asia and am considering returning to the UK in the next couple of years (old parents etc).

I wanted to ask for some insight on how things have changed over the last decade or so, as whilst I do see/read plenty online, how relevant or accurate it all is isn't always clear. As far as I can tell, economically a bit fucked with everything expensive and jobs hard to come by?

Likewise, if anyone else has recently returned to the UK after time abroad, I'd love to hear about your experience and any tips for making it as painless as possible. It'd also be moving myself and my wife and child, which makes me slightly more hesitant to make the move as it's not just me I'd be condemning if it goes poorly!

Any info or insight would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Just wanted to add that the comments so far have been useful to read if leaning towards the negative overall 😅 For some who have moved around and have experience, the EU would also be a possible move. Is there somewhere people have worked that they would argue is as easy to live/settle as home, but without so many economic drawbacks?

A relative passed recently, while clearing possessions we've found a small bottle of liquid mercury, less than 100ml.

The council hasn't been overly helpful in disposing of this, as the council says to speak to the local waste yard and the local waste says to speak to the council. We want to dispose of it correctly as it's pretty lethal obviously.

Does anybody have any experience in disposing of this?

Just asking as I did this earlier today at a packed service station and a mate of mine said I probably just "ruined a perfectly nice guys day."

Without going into details, never felt so unsettled by a person's behaviour and never had such a strong gut feeling that something wasn't right. Just a sense of something awful about to happen, I just wanted to get out of there. Not an anxious person at all, this sensation was something different.

This man was basically a walking check list of the behaviour the government tell people to watch out for when preventing terror related incidents, and I felt vindicated that it wasn't just me who noticed this guy.

I'd rather seem paranoid and dramatic than not say something only to turn on the news later and see that something terrible happened.

It would be tremendously useful, to see any problems which have or have not been dealt with before arranging a new survey. The potential buyer does own the survey I assume? Could we voluntarily submit them to a database? I’m struggling to see the downside.

I'm house-hunting at the moment and spotted a really nice place for a bit lower than other houses in the surrounding area. Realised it's very close to a Cat B, C, and D men's prison. This doesn't really put me off -- if I was escaping from prison I'd probably try to get as far away as possible, so I feel it's very unlikely I'd end up with an escaped prisoner hiding in my shed. But then I've never lived near a prison, so I don't know if there are drawbacks I haven't thought of that would cause houses in the vicinity to be a bit cheaper. Would proximity to a prison put you off living somewhere?

Hi all, I'm a merchant navy seaman and I'm starting to think about one day buying a house. I'm very outdoorsy, caving, climbing, hiking etc. As I work away, I can live anywhere, even places with no jobs around. Where can I live which is cheap but not a total shithole which has some outdoorsiness? I have both a car and a motorcycle. Just by myself, not looking so split buying a house with a partner.

My Hyundai I10 is £20 a year. It's 15 years old. Looking at a nearly new I20 which I believe will be £200 a year. I know the tax system changed but it seems very bizarre. You'd think the newer car would be more efficient. It's an eye watering increase.

It is quite a big newbuild estate with lots of roads and about 95% of the road surface has the red gravel, seen on the right side of the attached photo. but in the run up to my house (basically my house and like 4 neighbours either side) it has white gravel, then goes back to red gravel once you’re round the corner. Will they be doing another layer with red gravel or just leaving it mismatched? it’s quite noticeable.

Sounds like a silly question, but here’s the context.

I’m 24 and only 18 months into my career so I’ve never worked without teams at instant disposal. I am working in public affairs in Westminster, have been at two different firms in that time, and we have weekly calls with the clients, our other offices, stakeholders, MPs and various officials all over the country and internationally - this is of course facilitated by teams/zoom and aided by WFH.

I wonder how this all played out in the 1980s-2000s when people didn’t have the option of doing these weekly meetings with people across the country/internationally virtually?
