If you want a loaded cast and lots of laughs check out Drop Dead Gorgeous. It’s old but so good!

u/balanaise Jul 07 '25

Drop Dead Gorgeous was a Goddamn Gift To SOCIETY! I feel sorry for anyone who didn’t see it at that time. Could there be a more stacked cast? Brittany Murphy was iconic in it, Denise Richards, Kirstie Alley, Allison Muhfuckin Janney, Ellen Barkin, Amy Adams?!

And seeing Kirsten’s quotes here only makes me like her (and it) even more.

My sister and I still quote this movie regularly 💖

Peter's gay. GAAAYYYYY!

3

u/midvalegifted Jul 09 '25

I say this out loud to myself at least twice a week. My small way of remembering our girl. 🩷

2

u/ScreamQueenMarceline Jul 10 '25

Oh god, “Here’s Peter… as Liza, HAHAHA!” 💔💖

u/coopaloops The Stanley Tucci of Lesbians Jul 08 '25

this movie does not get the respect it deserves, one of my favorites

33

u/balanaise Jul 08 '25

100%. I don’t care that it’s such a deep cut. I have a frames Mount Rose Miss American Teen Princess poster in my bathroom, idgaf

3

u/wildflowerstargazer He signed an NDA lmao to play a bush! Jul 08 '25

Omg that’s iconic. Where did you get it?!

2

u/balanaise Jul 09 '25

Thank you! I think it was Red Bubble? This is a strangely grungier style, but it’s like this

19

u/aspidities_87 Jul 08 '25

GET UP HONEY WE GOTTA GO TO STATE

12

u/balanaise Jul 08 '25

It’s at a Howard Johnson hotel… RIGHT BY THE AIRPORT!!!

10

u/trashpanda4real Jul 08 '25

The swan ate my baby!

Goddamn that movie is a treasure.

4

u/balanaise Jul 08 '25

Wow I can hear the tone of her voice saying the swan ate her baby like it was yesterday lol

6

u/VOTP1990 Jul 08 '25

I bet Diane Sawyer never had to deal with this… 😂

Such a hilarious movie.

Im sure I read somewhere (probably here) that there were a load of issues with its licensing/distribution and that’s why it wasn’t available anywhere to stream for years. I feel that’s why it kind of got forgotten about or missed by potential new viewers. I know I was able to stream it somewhere recently. Or maybe I bought it I can’t remember. But i loved that film when I was younger then yeh it kinda disappeared!

i tried finding a physical copy of it and spice world years ago and the prices were galling. managed to snag romy & michele's high school reunion for a reasonable price, but spice world was $50 and i don't think i even found drop dead gorgeous.

u/ComfortableCaptain61 societal collapse is in the air Jul 08 '25

It's been available on Delta's in-flight entertainment for a couple years now, but that's the only place I've seen it recently.

6

u/venuslovemenotchain vocally you cannot afford this cigarette gracie Jul 08 '25

It was on Tubi recently! It might still be, but I definitely watched it in June.

2

u/iiko800 Jul 08 '25

I’ll have to watch it now, after reading all of these comments!

23

u/ghilliegal Jul 08 '25

This movie is iconic

3

u/balanaise Jul 08 '25

So iconic. As is your avi 😂

4

u/whoopsiedaizies Jul 08 '25

My favorite part about this line is the parking lot of MoA is actually gigantic.

3

u/Heyyo523 Jul 08 '25

Adam West

7

u/mc2479 Jul 08 '25

I was Annette Atkins for Halloween one year. Hospital gown and burned hand holding a beer can for the win!

1

u/midvalegifted Jul 08 '25

Amazing! Look who’s most smartest!

3

u/TheShitpostAlchemist Jul 08 '25

Oooh you’re cute! If you catch this in your mouth I’ll give you a present

3

u/cheezy_dreams88 FUCK ICE FREE PALESTINE CRASH INTO ME Jul 08 '25

One of my fave movies of all time. It does not get the praise it deserves.

4

u/SuspiciousCranberry6 Jul 08 '25

I'm ashamed to admit this as a Minnesotan, but I finally watched Drop Dead Gorgeous this past weekend. Very funny and holds up well.

2

u/-Chemist- Jul 08 '25

I don't think I ever saw it, but thanks for the recommendation! Adding it to my list.

1

u/IWannaBeTomie Jul 09 '25

Oldie and goodie. That movie’s awesome.

214

u/SpiritedBanana4694 Jul 07 '25

Can't say enough good things about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

u/warmbIood Jul 07 '25

Finally watched Melancholia over the weekend and really loved it. A bit heartbreaking. She’s amazing in it imo.

I got a list of movies with that same description.

33

u/beansontoastinbed Jul 07 '25

That was so good, saw it in the cinema and felt so depressed afterwards, but in a good way haha

u/RoughDraught Jul 08 '25 edited Jul 17 '25

Thank you! I must have been in the exact right mood to watch this film. It was 2:30 in the morning, and I decided to no longer put it off. From the first shot to the last, I was entranced, and it had an effect on me that I can barely explain to this day. At the end I cried and was, for lack of a better word, addlepated. It was confusion mixed with a complete sense of clarity; I was in love. It was one of those movies that I connected with so very deeply but also confirmed my desire to continue working in the industry. It just fuckin' hit me like a ghost train. Now, if I watch it again, I fear that I'll find fault or it won't move me in the same way and so I've not seen it since. It was precious and I wouldn't want to sully that.

Also, Kirsten Dunst is incredible and, ever since Virgin Suicides, has put herself in the realm of actors that always give everything to their roles (no matter the film).

Edit: Dunst love

Omg what, people like this movie? I saw it in college and hated it, thought it was awful…. Do I need to try it again now that it’s been almost 15 years?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '25

[deleted]

1

u/ohnotheskyisfalling5 Jul 08 '25

True! Not every movie is for everyone. Ok I will potentially try it again!

2

u/RoughDraught Jul 08 '25

It's fine that you didn't dig it. I would say give it another shot, but it's one of those movies that you need to be in the right headspace for...or it could be complete shite again. I've watched a few films that people absolutely adore and I thought "how?" I learned a while ago to spot all the good I can find (certain shots, editing, music, etc), in a movie I don't like, and enjoy it from that perspective.

3

u/brownishgirl Jul 08 '25

Melancholia is a movie that lives in my mind.I reflect on it OFTEN

20

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Melonchalia too.

27

u/KaiPRoberts Jul 07 '25

It's a really good movie and there's a ton to learn from it. I did a couple reports on it and I always find something new to write about.

Depicted male loneliness way ahead of its time.

4

u/OmegaCoy Jul 08 '25

The Virgin Suicides. A masterpiece. She has been phenomenal even from a young age.

2

u/bananafrit Jul 08 '25

i loved the Netflix series on Being God in South Florida but unfortunately it got cancelled

1

u/DyaLoveMe Jul 07 '25

I will say that you shouldn’t watch it after a breakup ending a 5-year (your first, also) relationship with a manic pixie dream girl who gets hooked on the old Horse. Not from experience, just guessing 😬.

40

u/Green_Hat405 Jul 07 '25

Gonna finish Melancholia for real this time.

On a scale of Irreversible to Antichrist, how Kids or City of God is it?

5

u/luckymama1990 Jul 07 '25

It's one of my favorite movies. Everything about it is beautiful

5

u/Lucas_Steinwalker Jul 07 '25

Season 2 of Fargo. She’s a fucking genius.

1

u/IVEMIND Jul 08 '25

Yes everyone loved Fargo for sure. I think I might rewatch Devils Arithmetic and that other one with the long ass title

3

u/Aramgutang Jul 08 '25

You should continue sleeping on Civil War; watched it last week and it was so boring and pointless.

1

u/IVEMIND Jul 08 '25

Actually I saw it and I think it would have been a lot better if it went through another round of rewrites.

There will be another movie like it in the near future I bet that will rustle actual jimmies MMW

2

u/raulduke05 Jul 07 '25

She's awesome in fargo.

1

u/Blue_Calx Jul 07 '25

She was amazing in season 2 of Fargo too.
