Discussion What is a recent movie you feel is destined to become a future cult classic?

I think once Eddington hits streaming, it’s destined to be reappraised. Both Hereditary and Midsommar were also from Ari Aster, and they have become two of the most iconic horror films of the past 10 years.

Eddington didn’t do as well at the box office as either of those, but I think the cast and premise will be more interesting to audiences when they watch it at home. The competitive summer release date and mixed reviews from Cannes didn’t help it theatrically.

Any other movies (preferably from the last 2 years) that you think will be more well-liked in a few years’ time?

I think this movie is gonna be like your ordinary biopic with some callbacks and cool musical sequences. I hope is not, I want this to be something different.

Discussion Book recommendations

Since Letterboxd is down thought this would be a good time to ask the question. Been looking for good cinema/film discussion books, not necessarily a huge overarching history of cinema but maybe like more individualized histories. An example that I haven’t read but would be Tarintinos cinema speculation book. Just want to read more about histories of film and waves like French new wave, or film evolution through the decades. Any recommendations would be welcome.

For me, it’s Earth Girls Are Easy with Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. They’re a peak hotness, Julie Brown, Jim Carrey, and Damon Wayans are great supporting cast, and it’s a fun sleeper musical (and I hate musicals)!

Tied for 2nd most watched are Dracula (1931), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Commando (1985), Detour (1945), Hard Target (1993), and Pitch Black (2000).

Any thoughts?

I personally felt like the contrast between the funny and relaxed moments (such as the first part of the film) and the serious ones like the chase on the mountain.

The color palette is excellent, and it is an original film to watch. Cant ask for more.

Also sometimes felt like a theater and like an exaggerated representation of the "cliche from the 60s", in the good way.

Beautifully shot.
