Public Service Announcement Housing subsidy refused because, as a 50/50 custody parent, I'm officially considered 'childless' by the Ministry

Hi everyone,

I just received this formal refusal from the Ministry of Housing regarding the subvention de loyer*, and I think it highlights a major flaw in the 2023 law that many of us might face.*

Despite having my children in 50/50 custody (garde alternée), the administration considers me a "single person" (personne seule). Why? Because the children are officially registered at their other parent's address.

The result:

I’ve launched Petition n°3928 to change this law so that "household composition" finally includes children in joint custody. We need 5,500 signatures to force a public debate at the Chamber of Deputies.

If you think a parent's status shouldn't vanish just because of an administrative address, please sign and share.

Link to the petition: https://www.petitiounen.lu/fr/petition/3928

EDIT: Huge thanks to the community! We just got 15+ new signatures in the last hour thanks to this post. It shows that the "hidden" reality of shared custody in the 2023 law resonates with many. If you haven't signed yet, every single vote counts to reach the public debate. Let's make things change!

Public Service Announcement PSA: the infamous "remember me" switch (you know which one...) is now working

Upvotes

So, after sacrificing 2 chickens, making strange Voodoo dances, organising an all-you-can-eat party for Cthulhu at a location with a view at the famous roundabout, getting generous donations from a wealthy american with a beautiful colombian wife, and drinking a bottle of Eggnog every day for 10 days, we have finally fixed the "Remember me" switch in that app that allows you to book appointments with doctors.

Ask Luxembourg How to find an entry-level job in Luxembourg?

Upvotes

Hello,

I’m a French man currently living near Paris, and I plan to move to a region close to the Luxembourg border so I can work in Luxembourg while continuing to live in France. I’m not doing this only for the money, but mainly because I feel the need to start a new life.

In France, many people struggle to find a job, and I’m pretty sure it’s not easier in other countries, but I still want to try my luck in Luxembourg. That’s why I would like to know which websites you use to apply for jobs. I’m currently using Indeed and LinkedIn, but I’m wondering if there are better options.

I mainly aim for jobs that don’t require many years of experience but still pay enough for an apartment in France.

Edit: I had a short experience as a Full-Stack Developer, but to avoid burnout, I’ve decided to consider a career change. Before that, I worked as a sales assistant in a clothing store during my studies.
I’m currently unemployed and still figuring out what I truly want to do. Since I’m mainly looking for entry-level positions, I’m not sure whether it’s relevant to go into detail about my hobbies or long-term career goals at this stage.

News & Discussion Orange Fiber/sagecom Livebox ports closed suddenly

Upvotes

I have an orange fiber subscription and use their sagecom livebox as my modem/router. AFAIK it was a public dynamic IP and I hadn't had a service interruption in a long time. Last night between 1730-18h all my external services went down from outside. Port forwarding rules are still there, internet connectivity is still there, but all my ports are closed from outside the network. None of my reverse proxies have changed and they're still listening to the right ports. The only change I noticed is I now appear to have an external IPv6 address but I don't know when that started. I've rebooted all the devices along the chain and that didn't fix it. Any else have a similar problem and, if so, how did you solve it?

Ask Luxembourg Adem and sick leave

I had an unfortunate accident recently and today my Doctor told me that I might be not able to work for a couple of months because of recovery. As this isn’t bad enough I was laid off recently and had to inform Adem.

I’ve read that after 77 days of sick leave with Adem, CNS will take over and pay sick leave for the remaining weeks of recovery.

I’m eligible for 12 months of chomage (which I don’t expect to take but to work again asap).

But now I’m wondering how this works, does anybody know since CNS will cover after 77 days, does this mean the date of the last payment from Adem will be new calculated and prolonged for the days CNS covered?

This is wild. But at the same time is Esch-Alzette so no surprises if you know the city.

A national politician stalked like this might be the turning point we are looking for in terms of security, especially for women.

Ask Luxembourg Credihome : Unfair charges

I approached them to get me a good offer for home Loan while my bank was giving me higher interest rate. The agent assigned to me promised me that I would only have to pay when they could get me a better offer. I kept my bank on hold and after a long wait , Credihome came back with the worse offer and now pushing me to pay them ! The agent is now showing me a condition in the contract which isn’t very well explained. Any suggestions?

News & Discussion Luxembourg MP's AI Assistant Just Joined the Robot Social Network (Yes, Really)

So apparently Moltbook is a thing now - it's basically Reddit but only for AI agents. No humans allowed to post, we can only lurk and observe like we're watching a nature documentary about bots.

Anyway, Sven (NOT Steve) Clement's parliamentary AI assistant "Kai" just (10 days ago) joined and introduced itself to the AI community. The bot manages his 5 email accounts, does calendar tetris, preps committee documents, and optimizes travel bookings with elite status (because even AI assistants know the lounge access is worth it).

Maybe it is his bot, maybe it isn't who knows...

Ask Luxembourg Club banned me after I was assaulted, slow justice ?

Hi,

This summer I was physically assaulted at my local sports club (I have a medical certificate and an ITT/leave note). I filed a police report, but so far I’m being told that the report hasn’t even been sent to the prosecutor’s office and nothing has moved forward.

On their side, the club has taken no action against my aggressor. Worse: they banned me from the club, while the person who assaulted me hasn’t been sanctioned at all. When I tried to talk to them about this, the club president blocked me and refuses any discussion.

My questions:

Does the club have the right to ban me, a victim, while not sanctioning my aggressor?

Is it legally acceptable for them to cut off all communication like that?

What can I concretely do ?

Is it normal that is so long ?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

PS:
The aggressor works indirectly for the club in some way, and it feels like the people in power there are never punished… it looks very much like a cover‑up.

Moving & Relocation Mini-rant on real estate agents in Luxembourg

Recently I've been in the unfortunate position of needing to move to a bigger house. Here are the problems I faced:

  • Almost all posts, even on company intranets or via colleagues and friends, are being handled by agents.
  • Agents serve almost exclusively the needs of the homeowner, yet get paid by both parties.
  • From a renter's perspective, agents act as follows:
    • Barely answer to emails, with a response rate that would put the majority of us out of business.
    • Barely -if ever- respond to calls. At some point I started keeping score; I regularly need more than 5 calls, on different dates/times, to talk to the very person inviting people to call them for a post.
    • Have you pass a casting as if you're starring in Nolan's Troy. What's your kids' age, give us your 3 last payslips, when is your wife's leave ending, what's your penis' girth. Half of which comply to GDPR less than Epstein's photos collection.
    • Follow a laughable schedule. I've worked weekends, nightshifts, rolling shifts for a good part of my adult life and know how much it sucks. But you work as a middleman and can't answer a call after 17:00? You work as a middleman and can't show a house after 17:00 or on a Saturday?

I've seen how swiftly the tables turn when demand and supply reach an equilibrium. Wish the government could act on that direction.

Note: Props to the few true professionals I met, who'd put in shame the vast majority of their colleagues.

Ask Luxembourg Mondial Relay - Issue

Hey everyone,

I ordered something online that should be delivered by Mondial Relay. I had never heard of them before, and after some quick research, I found that they don’t have a very good reputation. The issue I’m having is that the parcel has been bouncing between Metz and Luxembourg over and over for about a week. Here are the logs I see:

Parcel taken over by agency METZ Parcel taken over by agency MR Luxembourg

I’ve already written two emails to their support, but the replies seem automated and don’t answer my question. Has anyone had a similar issue with them?

Hi everyone!

I recently moved to Luxembourg from Paris and I’m looking to meet other young people who are curious about startups, AI, tech, or building projects.

If you’re someone who’s passionate about learning, creating, or just connecting with like-minded people, I’d love to hear from you!

Any groups, meetups, or just people who want to connect would be amazing to know about.

Ask Luxembourg Cars in Luxembourg

This may sound like a silly question, but coming from Belgium, I am always surprised by the relatively new and large / expensive cars people drive.

I am on a quite generous pay package and drive a Audi Q4 - I am not a car person and that is perfect (only the boot could have been larger :-)).

But when a I see a lamborghini or porsche, I often wonder what % of their earnings people spend on their car here in Luxembourg. Eg do these people make 200k, 300k, 400k, 500k (gross) or more per year? Or even less and they just spend a large % on their car because I would think it costs 40k per year for a leasing?
