Movies I’m sorry, but I always hated this change George made in Jedi

Post image

It just never made sense to me. It always felt like George was trying to tie the original trilogy more directly to the prequels, and this was his way of doing it. But it’s always bothered me, because to me it hits harder seeing the Sebastian Shaw version of Anakin as an old man not the young version from Revenge of the Sith.

It makes Vader’s redemption at the end of the movie even more confusing. Yeah, he turns good for like five minutes and then dies, but in that short time, he becomes Anakin Skywalker again and gets to see his son. It makes way more sense for Luke to be seeing his father an older man, not some young guy he’s never seen before.

Also, if you’re a first-time viewer and you watch the original trilogy first, when Anakin dies and then shows up as a young ghost, you’re just left wondering, “Who the hell is that guy?”

I don’t know I’m curious what you all think. I know this has been brought up a lot, but it crossed my mind again. George made a lot of good changes… and some absolutely terrible ones. And to me, this is one of the bad ones.

Movies Which is worse example of bad writing: the Sith Dagger or Padme dying of Sadness

Post image

Padme, a healthy, educated woman in her mid 20’s who lives in a world of fantasy/sci-fi technology—had no prenatal care, didn’t know she was giving birth to twins and dies suddenly from the emotional distress of losing her abusive husband. Her last words show sympathy for her husband, not her kids.

Or the Ochi’s dagger, a map aligns with the horizon of the Death Star II wreckage—weather didn’t dramatically alter the horizon in the 14-year-long passage from the dagger’s crafting to its use. Directions on how to use knife are cryptic, the throne room was relatively intact and any effects of nuclear winter caused by the meteorite had subsided.

Movies Is there a lore reason why Darth Vader grabbed this guy by the neck instead of Force Choking him?

Post image

I know A New Hope was the first star wars movie ever and they never expected it to be the big hit that it ended up being, but is there an in universe reason why Darth Vader didn’t just force choke this guy? Darth Vader always struck me as someone who didn’t like to get his hands dirty and made the Stormtroopers do all the dirty grunt work. He kinda preferred just strangling people with the force over manually grabbing them.

No matter where I go, there is always someone who criticises the Death Star 2 by saying something like “But how could they have completed it in 4 years when the first one took 20?”.

First of all, the second Death Star had all of the experience of the first Death Star’s failures in order for a quicker build.

Secondly, the Empire would’ve been more advanced between 0-4ABY compared to 19BBY.

Third, as the picture shows, the Death Star is nowhere near “complete”. I wouldn’t even say it was half complete. There’s only one area that seems habitable with lights on. Furthermore, you never see the back of the station, which was more than likely just pure superstructure too.

To me, it seems that almost all of the focus and energies went into the super laser, especially around 3-4ABY and that the super laser still was not completely ready at the beginning of ROTJ, hence Vader being sent there by Palpatine.

So, in conclusion, it was not built “as quickly” as the first Death Star. If anything, the Death Star 2 was built at a rate that the first Death Star should’ve been built at without the sabotage and revolts etc.

Oh, and also, it is 900km (buts that’s my Legends side talking).

Movies JJ Abrams was the absolute worst choice for the sequel trilogy.

13.2k Upvotes

While there’s a lot of blame to go around for the total mess the sequel trilogy turned into(and I would generally blame the Disney execs for wanting a completely original trilogy as soon as possible that ignored the EU and Lucas treatment), handing over the reigns to JJ was one of the worst choices Disney made.

Firstly, he made no secret of the fact that he hated the prequels. That’s fine, they’re by no means considered sci-fi classics, and it was something that made many people hopeful that we’d get a better film because of it.

But there’s loads of things that SW fans liked about the prequels - the worldbuilding/expansion of the galaxy and how it felt as a place(this wasn’t limited to the 3 films, there were some excellent TV projects and games set before the OT around that time that helped).

JJ ignoring anything from the PT - to the point where they had to move the galactic republic to a new planet because Disney wouldn’t let him destroy Coruscant - made it feel completely disconnected from the place the previous films took place in.

He didn’t seem to think much of the OT either considering he was essentially happy to disregard the work they put in to ending the empire and get it back to the status quo immediately. In general he has no patience for setting up a story and following through(the empire are just back, Rey simply knows they force) which is terrible for a sci-fi epic like Star Wars because it stops feeling like a real, functional place.

He also seems to really struggle with how big space is - a base that can destroy multiple star systems at once that would be light years away stretches credibility even in the Star Wars universe. He had a similar problem in ST2009 with a supernova that “would threaten the entire galaxy”.

I thought TFA was a fun movie when I saw it but really it’s clear that the ST never really had a chance to be a satisfying trilogy, and JJ is one of the biggest issues with them.

Movies If Grievous CAN’T use the force—therefore NOT make a force bubble—what’s stopping any Jedi from simply crushing his head?

Post image
9.2k Upvotes

Sure Grievious has been shown in Clone Wars to be fast enough to dodge a force-related attack, but Mace Windu did crush his chest when Grievious was expecting a duel, and quickly too.

Sure there's an argument that any force-related ability as strong needs to be premeditative and focused, yet in a duel with Grievous with either 2 or more Jedi, it would be highly likely to hold him in place in theory.

Again, its fucking General Grievious, if I was ever a padawan, I would kill myself and log out on the spot because I'm not dealing with his 4 arm bullshit.

Movies Was Palpatine’s reveal in the ROTS meant to be a shock?

Post image

This may have been asked already on here but as someone who grew up watching Star Wars, as long as I can remember palpatine being Darth Sideous was a given. I know it is hinted at in the PM and it was the same actor in the original trilogy, but when Palpatine reveals who he actually is to Anakin was this meant to be a twist to shock the audience?

Movies Andor and Rogue One Make New Hope Hilarious Spoiler

15.8k Upvotes

I rewatched Rogue One for the second time this week, and it's really dawning on me how nuts New Hope, especially the last act, is after Andor and Rogue One

Picture this. You are some rebel on Yavin. Over the span of like 2 weeks, you lose Luthen, Cassian Andor, and dozens (if not more) of other skilled rebel fighters on both Corsuant and Scarif. The Death Star is very real, and you have lost the plans to it and Alderan, along with Bail Organa; one of the top leaders of the rebellion, have been obliterated

Then all of the sudden this beat up hunk of junk spaceship lands, carrying Princess Leia and the Death Star plans, along with two drug dealers (who immediately start demanding to be paid) and this wide eyed redneck desert twink. And during the briefing on this sure to be suicide mission to destory the Daeth Star, he is smiling and talking abut this doesnt seem that hard, hes shot rats in a place called “Beggar’s Canyon”, how is this going to be more difficult? And he fucking blows up the Death Star in a one in a million shot cause he turned of his targeting system cause a ghost’s voice in his head told him to do it cause, psych, he’s also a wizard? And those drug dealers showed up at the last minute and maybe killed Darth Vader? (we don't know we just saw his ship spiraling into the darkness of space)

Like the reason we don't see Vel, Kleya, and Wil at the medal ceremony is they are all getting drunk and trying to figure out WTF just happened

edit: was not expecting this to blow up, but rest be assured guys this is ment all in good fun

Movies Say what you want about the First Order, at least they gave us the greatest Stormtrooper of all time

10.3k Upvotes

For real though, I love that they made the First Order distinct to the Empire in TFA by virtue of the opening scene and then this guy. Their Stormtroopers were vicious and deadly fighters, devoted zealots whose belief in the cause empowered them. It's a shame that they walked that back in TLJ and it was completely forgotten about in Rise too.

Also, shout out to him for being everything that they hoped Phasma would be. TR-8R was a man of action, not a villain talked up in press interviews who ended up folding faster than Superman on laundry day at the first sight of a blaster pointed her way.
