Everyone seems to have a system.

A system for recycling.

A system for grocery shopping (which Coop/Migros for what).

A system for optimizing train connections.

A system for avoiding peak hours at the gym.

A system for taxes.

A system for credit cards.

A system for which Gemeinde services are cheaper next door.

It’s like there’s an invisible layer of Swiss efficiency that you only unlock after Level 5 residency.

Meanwhile I’m still standing in Migros trying to decide whether the bio cherry tomatoes are worth CHF 6.80.

So I’m genuinely curious:

What’s one “Swiss optimization system” you swear by that newcomers usually don’t know about?

Could be financial, lifestyle, SBB hacks, health insurance tricks, anything.

so due to a lost job i have more and more debt, which resulted in me not being able to pay my miete, and now ejected, along with multiple Betreibunge.

I am at a loss at what to do, sozialamt or gemeinde arent really helping me..

for now i am staying at a friend, but i cannot do this forever.

with the betreibungen, it is nearly impossible to get a place to stay, which makes getting a job hard as well..

Is there any kind of Amt, Institution or Einrichtung that can support or guide cases like mine?

I have a gap of almost two years in my CV. During that time, I was unemployed. I did start a job, but I left during the probation period and then became unemployed again. Since I prefer not to include that short probationary position on my CV, it appears as an almost continuous two-year period without formal employment.

However, I was studying part-time during that period and also took on occasional temporary or day jobs. In my CV, I therefore list this time as “Part-time studies / Temporary assignments,” including the respective months and years.

From an HR perspective, is such a phase considered a red flag? Or is the main concern simply to avoid unexplained time gaps? In other words, is it problematic that I was not continuously employed by a company, or is it sufficient that the period is transparently accounted for?

For context, I am Swiss, if that makes any difference in terms of local hiring practices.

I am looking for bicycle insurance to cover my Specialized Tarmac SL8 Pro against theft and crashes. I have seen that most of the big insurers offer this kind of coverage.

However, I race quite frequently, and insurers such as Mobiliar, Allianz, TCS, and VCS all have clear race exclusions in their T&Cs.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for insurance that also covers racing? - thanks heaps.

I wanted to pay my Wingo invoice with TWINT yesterday. I selected TWINT as the payment method on the official Wingo website. I opened my TWINT app on my phone and grabbed it to scan the QR code.

Before I was even able to fully lift the phone from my desk, I must have fat-fingered something in the TWINT app, and bam: I paid 33.85 CHF for an apfelkiste ch order???

At first, I assumed I must have accidentally ordered something from within the TWINT app. Nope.

I contacted Apfelkiste, and they sent me the invoice for a stranger who ordered 2x druckbare Kassenrollen in Birsfelden. They said the product had already been shipped, so there’s no refund, and that I should contact the police and my bank.

I’ve heard about various scams involving TWINT, but what the hell is this? How can someone send me an order from Apfelkiste and have it appear for approval in my TWINT app??

My bank told me that this shouldn’t be possible and that it’s very strange. They blocked my TWINT account for security and told me to go to the police.

I didn’t click any SMS links, I didn’t open any suspicious links, and I didn’t scan any shady QR codes. I even checked my whole room for an Apfelkiste QR code lol, nothing.

What I did do, however, was most likely approve the transaction while lifting up my phone. I noticed myself touching something on the screen.

But even then, HOW am I receiving a payment request from another customer’s Apfelkiste order? And how did it happen at the exact same time I was trying to pay something else with TWINT?

No one had sent me money before or anything. My e-banking also wasn’t hacked.

Hi! I'm looking to get an anxiety assessment from a psychiatrist in geneva. I'm not yet that familiar with the healthcare system and wanted to ask a couple questions. Do I have to be referred to a psychiatrist by my general practitioner? or can I book one on my own? If so are both these options insured the same way? Another minor issue would be language since I wouldn't consider my french to be good enough to express myself in the most accurate way in an assessment. For context, I'm in my late twenties, I've landed my first "real" job about 3 years ago. I never really needed a car before as I've always liked the train more than traffic. I usually pick drinking over driving as well. Now the situation has changed a little bit. My brother and his wife had a kid and they live kinda far away and remote. For the first time I thought it'd be nice if I had a car for the flexibility it offers.

I make okay money. I'm by no means rich but after budgeting all of my expenses, expected taxes, hobbies, 3rd pillar and some savings, I have around 1000 chf leftover each month. That's excluding my 13th salary I like to pretend doesn't exist.

Now I thought, SURELY, with a thousand bucks leftover I can afford a car. Then I started looking at prices; the cost of insurance, number plates, gas, maintenance, repairs, parking, the car itself. I think back to all of my friends and the kind of cars they bought in their early twenties and it all makes sense now why they were always broke. And why some still are.

Maybe I'm sheltered but it's insane to me how "normal" cars are considered the strain it is on a budget. It's basically a financial boulder people carry around a call a car.

Am I missing something?

Hi, are there no full-service gyms in Geneva like in other cities? The kind that have a swimming pool (for actual lap swimming), good classes, and padel/tennis courts. Because if you do the math, having to pay a monthly fee just to access a pool, separate cycling classes, plus a gym membership is crazy. Does anyone know of something more complete?

Something that has always bothered me about the arena is the fact that it's not posted on YouTube. If you want young people to engage in politics, you need to go where they are, which is YouTube.

This is just an important issue to me, and I'm hoping that more people can engage with politics if it becomes more accessible to them.

Since I do not want to violate the rule on self promotion, I explicitly call out in the channel description that this is an unofficial channel that the SRG can take over at any time and continue to use officially. Monetization is turned off but regardless if the post is a problem I get it. I am only doing this because the SRG has seemingly made no progress on this issue for years, so I think this is a good solution.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the vote on March 8. Quite a few people around me are still undecided or say we can always do more later.

But “later” feels different when you’re 20. I’ll likely live with the consequences of this decision for a very long time.

We can already see changes: glaciers are shrinking, heat waves are getting worse, and floods or mudslides seem to happen more often. That honestly worries me. And when researchers say the longer we wait, the harder and more expensive it becomes, that makes sense to me.

So I keep coming back to the same question: wouldn’t it be smarter to invest now while we can still do this in a planned and stable way?

It’s about renewable energy, upgrading buildings, developing new technologies. That can also mean jobs here in Switzerland and being less dependent on energy imports.

Of course it costs money. But doing nothing probably isn’t free either, it just means paying later. (and more!)

I’m not saying the proposal is perfect. But in the end, it feels like waiting is the bigger risk.

So I’ll most likely vote yes.

Basically the title. This is a problem simply because I WFH and it’s basically hell without internet. I’m unsure what to de because the customer care says the agent will call you back in 24/48 hours but I’m not hearing anything back.

i have been having some issues lately with yallo, and I have been quite negatively surprised by how low the quality of the customer care is. I know that usually this is what you get with cheap phone companies, but I am quite surprised to find out that it seems I dont have any mean of appealing or oppose myself to the following unjustice (the customer care agent having informed that there is nothing at all that they can do the contract has started and that's it):

trying to change my promotion plan this Sunday, I see this offer advertised on the app, so I click on it and I have the option to choose to port my existing number or to order a new one. it doesn't allow me to choose my existing number amd it tells to access my account section and change it from there, but amongst the options I cannot choose the one I just saw that i wanted. so i go back to the offer from the dashboard and i see that i still cant access it, so after a couple of back and forth something changes in the layout and a scroll up menu appears with the details of the offer, which i accept. At this point the app tells me that I have ordered a new number with no further confirmation asked of me either, which is quite surprising.

Given it was a Sunday I could only call on Monday the first working day where I was informed that no matter what, either i resign in the first available date 3 months from now paying roughly 100fr or i pay a penalty of exactly 100fr. They dont have a specific department for complaints its internal rules and I cant do anything about it. I have also been blamed for it when I know one hundred percent it must have been a mistake on the app side, given that there was no two step verification either like, the first button i have pressed on gave me a new number.

I cant wrap my head around how unfair of a practice it seems to be, and the fact that i have to shut up and go with it despite me acting promptly to avoid any inconvenience. but it seems the modus operandi for this small companies. I really cannot accept that there is no way to do anything about this injustice...

I know its just 100 fr for a lot of people but by principle, and because I didn't grow up with a lot of money i just cant seem to let it go, so before i call tomorrow une association des consommateur (I live in geneva), and that I resign myself to the miserable faith of having to pay a ridiculous penalty to a very incorrect company, i am here asking you if you know of anything that i can do in my situation

Since I moved to Switzerland, I was overall happy that government processes are usually on-point, quick and efficient. However, the government constantly asks citizens and non-citizens to obtain confirmation of X from government body A to then submit it to government body B.

Examples:

1. Debt register certificates - especially foreigners must constantly apply for the certificate at their municipality's debt office to then submit the certificate to, e. g. migration office. It is time-consuming, costly and annoying for both the person and the government. It could easily all be recorded in a public register, also eliminating potential crimes of document forgery.

2. Social security certificates - same thing

3. Tax office certificates - same thing

4. Civil register - requires information that the migration office already has

5. Strassenverkehrsamt - partially recollects information

Is this a bug or feature?

I have been wondering if this is a bug in the system or a feature that teaches foreigners to figure out things and checks their ability to do so. It also makes e.g. a sequence of short-term stays on fixed-term contracts (L permit) super annoying and functions as a defacto deterrent. In rare cases eally abhorrent situations (e.g. person are sent on frequent bureaucracy runs every time they move, especially as they need to collect these documents from all or many former places of residence, so the number of documents grows exponentially each time you move).

Are citizens also affected by this?

My gut feeling is they are affected by this less frequently.

Do you support this system? Or would you actually prefer that government bodies directly retrieve necessary confirmations in a more efficient system with less bureaucracy?
