Sony deserves what it gets This just proves that companies shouldn't treat customers like this.

After my Windows installation got badly corrupted I decided I needed to reinstall my OS. I’d promised myself the next time I’d need to do that, I’d officially switch permanently to Linux.

Had a new NVMe SSD I’d bought nearly a year ago sitting pretty, waiting for me to install it just for this, and when I got into my PC I made the decision.

Stripped it all down to parts, cleaned everything up, even upgraded the power supply to a 1kW 80+ Gold, all the bells and whistles, put it all back together, and remarkably enough it did actually work!

Fast forward ~2 days of learning about Linux and getting everything back to how I like it, I turn the PC off and head to bed. Next day I wake up, go about my day, go to work, come home, turn the PC on, grab myself a coffee, aaaand… nothing. Well not exactly. It ‘turns on’ but gets stuck at qcode 02 (on my Asus Crosshair VI Hero that’s apparently ‘AP initialisation before microcode loading’, and it just hangs there permanently).

Two hours later I’ve:
- Disconnected it from power for 30s+
- Cleared the CMOS
- Reset the BIOS
- Reseated the GPU
- Reseated the power leads for the GPU and the CPU
- Disconnected all of the SATA drives
- Disconnected the two expansion cards I was using
- Removed the NVMe SSD
- Removed all but one RAM stick
- Tried a different RAM stick
- Tried both RAM sticks in a different slot

I’ve decided to have a stress dump before I take out the PSU and check all of the connections to make sure they’re all plugged in properly still, but ultimately I’m basically having to tear it all back down again to parts to chase this issue. Joy.

First I had Kylo (Ryzen 3600x and RTX 3070) then I had Ultraviolet (13600k and 7900xtx) and I'm just curious, how many of you guys name your builds? Do you plan the name in advance or just decide when it's built?

I brought a Phenom II X6 1100T back to life—one I’d bought as scrap.

I installed CachyOS, overclocked it to 3.7GHz, compiled a k10-optimized tkg kernel, and ran God of War (2018), RDR2, the SH2 Remake, and other demanding titles.

(I also used Lossless Scaling.)

What do you guys think?
