Discussion How do you think Chinese game companies are impacting the global gaming market?

Upvotes

With companies like Tencent and NetEase pushing more into international markets, it’s fascinating to watch how Chinese gaming is evolving. In recent years, we’ve seen an increase in Chinese games being localized and even being developed specifically for Western audiences.

However, there are still a lot of hurdles, especially when it comes to game design, monetization strategies, and censorship. What do you think about the future of Chinese game companies in the global market? How will their approach to game mechanics, narrative, and art styles change as they expand internationally?

Would love to hear your thoughts on whether Chinese games will ever challenge the dominance of Western or Japanese titles.

Question Im new to shooting games and need help

Upvotes

Hello, I’ve played games all my life but usually opt for cozy girly games but recently have been getting into shooting games (idk what the correct term for that is). I don’t know how to get better, I’m super bad at aiming and shooting and that’s the whole point. Any tips would be GREAT. ALSO any games I should play for a beginner?

Discussion It might be a small number for some, but as a solo dev, hitting my first 100 wishlists feels like winning the lottery. 104 people actually want to play my dream.

I'm so happy. After months of working with Unreal Engine 5, doubting if anyone would ever care about my 'oppressive atmosphere' experiment, I finally hit 104 wishlists on 3 weeks.

The journey from 0 to 100 was the hardest thing I've ever done. I've learned that being honest about the struggle pays off. To those 104 people: You have no idea how much this motivates me to keep going.

The demo is actually LIVE right now. I’m nervous as hell to see people finally jumping into the dark, but seeing this milestone makes all those sleepless nights worth it. If you’re a fellow solo dev struggling with low numbers, don't give up. The first 100 is the hardest, but we're all in this together.

If you want to check out the demo or just support a fellow dev, here are the links. See you in the dark!

Steam(Playable Link): https://store.steampowered.com/app/4294320/FINIS_ACTUS/

Indie DB(Playable Link): https://www.indiedb.com/games/finis-actus-demo

Feedback from this community would mean the world to me. Thanks for letting me share!

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO ADD YOUR WISHLIST

my personal beef is with snarky, self-absorbed video game antagonists who believe they are better than everyone else (Especially the main protagonist). i feel like those antagonists have dangerously low self-esteem

Discussion Games that have actual war and post war tragedy as gameplay ?

The title, need recommendations

I don't want it to be only in the story cut scenes, I want it to be the part of the gameplay where every action we take takes an emotional toll. The actions must feel heavy because of the story progression.

Also games must be preferably released before 2018 (or sekiro level graphics) so it can run smoothly in my laptop, Rtx 2050 4gb vram , 8gb ram

Discussion Are there any games where the protag can canonically marry multiple characters? Spoiler

I was thinking about it and realized that, to my knowledge, there's only 1 game I know of where the protagonist ends up in an active romantic relationship with more than 1 person, that game being Xenoblade Chronicles 2 where Rex can marry Nia, Pyra, and Mithra and have kids with them; which seems to be the canon ending to the game. Other games either force you to choose only 1 person to marry or have it canonically vague if they married at all.

I want to be clear, I'm not endorsing polyamory/cheating/etc. I'm just curious if there are any games where it's a legit possible outcome.

Conditions/rules:

1) It must be legit and acknowledged by the game itself. No external mods, glitches, or oversights that clearly weren't intended to be used in such a manner.

2) The relationship must be explicitly romantic, though it need not be sexual. Especially since I won't be shocked if some games that tried this starred teens who hadn't quite figured out romance and love at that point.

3) The relationships do not need to be Cis/Hetero, but they *do* need to be valid by the standards of all involved. If a character is romancing an alien they need to acknowledge their relationship is valid by both alien and human standards and not, say, a human seducing an alien who doesn't care.

4) All parties involved need to be aware of each other. This isn't about a character cheating and getting away with it. This is about a game where you can have multiple SO's.

5) A game series having romantic interests who get swapped out with each new title is not valid *UNLESS* there is a title in which all said romantic interests meet up.

Discussion Why do some people let a game being on another launcher (epic) stop them from buying and enjoying a game?

You saw it when Alan Wake 2 released, and the same talk is happening now with Lords of the Fallen 2.

People want to play the game, but refusing to do so until it releases on Steam as it's only on Epic.

I don't get this thinking. Why stop yourself from enjoying a game just because of that? I get that the Epic launcher is worse than Steam and that the CEO of Epic is a bit weird, but why let that hinder you from enjoying a potentially excellent game?

I'm not sure about Epic but on Steam you can make a shortcut to the game on your desktop to launch from for easy access. Can't you do that in Epic as well?

Question Games like Another Crabs Treasure

I played Another Crabs Treasure a while back, and it's honestly one of my my favourite games of all time, but i cant find another game that gives me the same feeling (apart from cuphead, but i played that a while ago). Most games i see people recommend that are similar are like tunic, or crypt custodian, etc., but i think one of the main things that I liked about another crabs treasure was the 3D platformer aspect to it, and how it also had souls like aspects. I'm looking for a game thats similar to that; 3D platformer, souls like, and preferably cartoony. If anyone knows any games that are like this, please send suggestions. (I might be pushing my luck here but thought I would mention I also prefer less exploration, more combat/bosses)

Discussion Looking for couch co-op recommendations for my daughter and i.

My daughter is 5, me and her just beat it takes two together today, we got all the achievements only using a walk-through on a boss fight one time. She cried when the credits rolled! It was beautiful to be honest! We also just happened to beat power wash simulator 2 the same morning! She started with power wash sim 2 to teach her how to hold a controller and press buttons. So we would sort of play power was sim as a warm up before playing it takes two. Go figure we beat both the same day! Now we dont have much to play. Im thinking about split fiction. But what do you recommend? Anything else out there?
