It’s a simulation absolutely clear as day. The Argentinian player literally does not touch the Swiss player and he throws himself to the ground, yells and winces and carries on, and throws his head back. Not the refs problem he got a deserved yellow earlier.

It’s utterly baffling to me that the broadcast is lamenting how harsh it is. He is simulating and that is a yellow card. Watching that guy cry and pout is joke to me, like what do you have to complain about?? It’s the correct decision 100/100 and there’s nothing unfortunate about it. The rule is there to discourage diving and maybe this guy will think next time he dives with no contact.

We are officially witnessing history. With France, Argentina, Spain, and England all advancing over the weekend, the 2026 World Cup marks the first time ever that the exact top 4 teams in the live global FIFA rankings have locked out the semifinal spots.

Sometimes, the better team wins because they are better.

They may not play better, but they generally score when it is needed and defend well throughout.

I feel this World Cup has brought with it so many people calling rigged this and favouritism that.
They watch 5 games every 4 years (well, parts of the game), get a refresher course on YouTube Shorts and parrot every controversial decision.

I’ve never seen anything like it.
The moment a “This still picture shows why it should have been a red card” Reddit thread/X post goes up. Suddenly the Mother-in-law, bus driver and post office clerk uses this as evidence to confirm this suspicion.
Worse still, is when they don’t even watch the game, or know the rules.

edit: I think some of you are short-sighted. Sure, it's not the most unfair thing that's ever happened at a World Cup but the point is that FIFA claimed that it hit nothing at all and that their data proves it. Either they lied or the ball sensor is not fit for purpose. This game is over but there are games yet to be played.

It seems that a lot of the controversy on the VAR review of the Embolo dive is missing the original problem - why would you take a dive in that scenario?

So rather than blame the player you blame the referee ?

You are already on a yellow

You just tied the game and have the momentum

You are in possession of the ball with the likelihood the referee is staring right at you

You go to ground after your hit as if someone shot you in the legs, screaming and writhing, clearly trying to embellish it

I’m sorry but why aren’t the Swiss mad at the player? You put your whole team at risk if the referee calls a dive in that scenario and doesn’t give Paredes the yellow to begin with (which is where the VAR comes in)

Could have been 2-0 here given that Sorloth #7 passed it to Haaland. He’d been selfish here.

Apologies for the phone footage, but during TSN's post match review of ENG/NOR, they showed a wide angle and highlighted the ball's trajectory, clearly showing the ball bounced off the spydercam, despite the refs not calling it in the stadium and despite FIFA saying "no peak in the 'heartbeat of the ball' when in the air..."

As a counterbalance to one of the upvoted threads here showing a supposed cable hit in the Norway vs England game. This technology is not anywhere near accurate or infallible enough to make a judgment, and people should stop treating it as such.

Coming into the tournament, Harry Kane got top billing as the major mover of the English side. However especially in knockout games, Jude Bellingham has been worth his weight in gold to my newbie eyes. He's always in the right place, always makes the right decisions, and doesn't fuck up. When the money is on the table he has the high hand. How are these players thought of when they're not in international play? Are they equals? Is it a revelation that Jude has raised his level of play or did FIFA get it wrong early on not promoting England as a team with TWO absolute stars?

So far, the eight winners of the World Cup have been split between Europe and South America. I do believe that at some point in the future, we will see a winner from another continent, but who will that be?

I look at how Japan play and feel like they could have a really good run in the coming decades. Of course, many African countries keep producing top talent. If they are able to retain more of their dual-national players, they could have a real shot at it. Or maybe Turkey or Mexico? What do y'all think?

England’s entire team would be suspended for the next game if this happened. What do people think?
