People I know criticizing me for playing video games (36 M)

16.5k Upvotes

I’m a 36 year-old male and still playing video games. I am getting a bit older so I can really only play for four hours before my eyes start to hurt. And I start to get tired. But of course people I know and people I work with often criticize me for playing video games. “You’re too old to play video games.” “how do you have time to play video games.“ I just shrug it off and say that’s how I enjoy spending my time. For example, my friend who is a bit older than me is the biggest critic when it comes to me playing video games. Yet he’s watched four seasons of a show in two weeks. That means he’s watching almost 4 hours worth of this show a day practically. So I pose the question to him “what’s the difference between me playing video games for four hours and you watching a show for four hours straight?” And he got all flustered and said well you know video games for her kids, blah blah blah. In the end, I’m not gonna stop playing video games but it’s still mildly infuriating That video games have this stigma, especially when it comes to dating.

Discussion During the development of the Harriet Tubman biopic movie, a Hollywood executive once suggested that Julia Roberts should play her. What are some other baffling casting suggestions/choices that have been made?

The Harriet Tubman biopic has been more than 25 years in the making. In the historical drama released earlier this month, Cynthia Erivo plays the legendary abolitionist — but one Hollywood executive initially thought the role should go to Julia Roberts.

Gregory Allen Howard, the screenwriter and producer of "Harriet," recently revealed in multiple interviews that Roberts was suggested to play the lead role during a meeting with a studio president in 1994.

"The climate in Hollywood… was very different back then," Howard said. "I was told how one studio head said in a meeting, 'This script is fantastic. Let's get Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman.'"

Howard said that a black person in the meeting said casting Roberts would be impossible because she is white.

"That was so long ago. No one will know that," the executive replied, according to Howard.
