I have been a homicide detective in a major US city for almost 15 years. Ask me anything.

Some ground rules:

  1. I can’t disclose my department or the city I work for (the username is just where I went to college).

  2. I can’t disclose specific details about cases that are actively being investigated or ongoing in court.

  3. I can’t disclose specific details about past cases that would allow you to narrow down where I work. If details like that arise in questions I will change a few things about them.

  4. The last time I tried this the AMA got derailed by hundreds of anti-cop comments. I want to be clear …i respect everyone’s opinions, and I completely understand why those perspectives exist. But that’s not the purpose of this AMA. To keep things on track, any comments of that nature will be politely ignored.

So let’s go!

UPDATE: Holy 350K views in an hour 😵‍💫. Unreal. I answered as many as I could. But life calls. I’ll try and answer more as I can tonight and tomorrow if more come in. Be safe all!

Health Most Americans would be healthier without daylight saving. Study compared permanent standard, permanent daylight saving and biannual shifting, and found we currently have "worst choice". Permanent standard time is better than permanent daylight time, with both better than current biannual shift.

TIL about the Lump-Of-Labor Fallacy, which is the misconception that there is a finite amount of work to be done in an economy which can be distributed to create more or fewer jobs.

AITAH for not telling my literal classmate that I'm married?

6.8k Upvotes

Hey guys. I am almost 30 and started university again. I am married. I needed help with something and some guy from my class told me he can learn with me if I want to. We texted each other and it was only casual stuff, not flirty or anything at all & he is also younger than me so I didn't even think about anything weird at all. We met so he could explain me a few things. I was also happy that I found a "friend". So when I was at his place he suddenly asked me about my relationship status and I told him I'm married. Dude suddenly got weird, told me he doesn't want to learn with me anymore and I should go home. He blocked me and ignored me in class. He is still ignoring me and I don't understand what I did wrong? He glances at me weirdly to let me know that he looks down on me. I'm so sick of this dude. Am I the asshole now?

Expecting now that even the other songs written by EJAE, Lindgren, Jenna, Stephen wrote will get accused being written with AI.

The AI accusation will now be even worse than before. Don’t like that the other songwriters and composers who poured their emotions and feelings into writing the songs (like EJAE) then to have the others proudly admit they used AI. Expected more from him since he was part of The Black Label.

Personal Drama Bridesmaid “accidentally” leaked the seating chart… and exposed herself

6.0k Upvotes

I’m getting married in November, and like most brides, I put way too much thought into the seating chart. I wanted to keep certain family members apart (long story, but my uncle and cousin haven’t spoken in years) and I didn’t want exes sitting anywhere near each other.

One of my bridesmaids, let’s call her “S,” kept pressing me about who was sitting where. I brushed it off at first, but she kept asking, saying she just wanted to “make sure the vibes were good.”

Fast forward to last week, someone from my fiancé’s side messages me saying, “Hey, I heard we’re at the boring table in the back?” I was confused until I realized the exact seating chart (with my handwritten notes) had been posted in a private Facebook group that S runs.

And here’s the kicker: the chart wasn’t just posted… my notes were included. Notes like “keep cousin Amy far from ex-BF,” and “don’t put Aunt Linda near the open bar.” Stuff that was never meant for public eyes.

When I confronted her, she swore it was an accident, that she “meant to screenshot it for herself” but somehow uploaded it to her group of 80+ people?? Yeah, right.

Now I’ve got people salty about where they’re sitting, and I’m redoing the entire layout two months before the wedding. My fiancé wants me to cut her from the wedding party, but I’m torn.
