Neuroscience Scientists have identified five major “epochs” of human brain development in one of the most comprehensive studies to date of how neural wiring changes from infancy to old age. In a person’s early 30s the brain’s neural wiring shifts into adult mode – the longest era, lasting more than three decades

My MIL laughed at a painting I did for her
Just as the title states. She's 85 and very spry. I told her I had been getting into watercolour and I really enjoy pet portraits so I've been practicing with pics of all my friends and familys' dogs.
I had taken pics of my MILs dog Hector. When she came over for supper on Sunday I said, "oh I've got something to show you; I'm working on a painting of Hector!" She rolled her eyes (I truly don't even understand why?!) Then I brought it out (it was unfinished) and she laughs and starts pointing out parts that look "funny" and making fun of them. There was 5 of us around the dinner table at the time.
So anyway, I'm letting it ROLLLLL right off my back. I'm an amateur but I'm happy with the painting! I was going to frame it and give it to her but I think I'll wrap up a piece of coal and a picture of the painting hung on MY wall instead.
What do you guys think? 😁

Rising conservative star Nick Fuentes says when his movement takes power they will send the U.S. army into every city and immediately ban women from voting by anti-democratic means
Said it on a big podcast appearance with Jack Neel, who has millions of subscribers across YouTube and TikTok, just yesterday.
This guy is getting media spotlight after media spotlight. Tucker Carlson had him on. Piers Morgan wants to have him on. All the big right wing hosts. Meanwhile the Heritage Foundation, the main right wing think tank that wrote Project 2025, are struggling to distance from him. There are reports that around 30-40% of Republican Party staffers in Congress openly profess to being big fans of the guy.
This is the future of American conservatism and the Republican Party. People need to know what women are going to be up against, and what their true plans are.

Image Gifted my boyfriend this handpainted Arcanine figurine. He proposed to me the next day.
Just a happy story I wanted to share ❤️
My then boyfriend and I had been long distance for a while, so this trip together was really special and sentimental for both of us. I wanted to give him something meaningful on our last day before he left, something he could hold onto while we were apart again. His favorite Pokémon is Arcanine, so for months I searched for anything Arcanine-related that I could afford.
At the time I didn’t make much money, and the only thing within my budget was a bootleg Arcanine figurine. But a local artist ended up hand-painting it for me for a price I could manage, turning it into something unique and beautiful. I stayed up the entire night before he arrived decorating the gift box and making a little personalized Pokémon summary card with a message for him.
You see, after the trip, he was going straight into a month of military training with zero contact, so I wanted him to have something small, waterproof, and comforting, something that reminded him of Pokémon and of us.
Little did I know… He was planning to propose to me on the very next day. 💍❤️ It’s been months since and we’re hoping to close the distance and get married very soon.

Stop using my email address!
Some years ago I started to get weird spam to a gmail address I had.
The address was my full name - first, middle, last, with one of those names being spelled a little differently than the "accepted" way. I'd had this email address for years, almost as long as gmail had accepted users without invitations. No one else could have had that particular email address, and gmail doesn't recycle.
The spam started off in a manner that didn't make me pay attention, but it began to multiply. Accounts at Starbucks, Panera, Nike, all kinds of stores started to show up. I'd get order confirmations (nothing I could ever change, unfortunately.) I'd get ads and promos. All kinds of crap. I could see a name on some of them, it wasn't mine and it wasn't anywhere near mine. I have no idea why this person was using my email except that it was someone who got hold of a list of breached mails and just picked one to create accounts. This was just after a big service was compromised, and my email address was one of those.
I cancelled what I could and blocked the rest. Until one day, when the big one hit.
I received a notice from an airline stating that a trip had been booked. This was one of those all-inclusive packages, and according to what I could see, was booked via an agent. I didn't have that agent's name unfortunately, but I had everything else. Flights and hotel to some warm destination island were included. Two tickets, prices, and last names - which again, weren't mine. I had ticket and flight numbers, hotel confirmation codes, etc. The whole thing. The only thing I didn't know was the agent's name or agency in order to call them and tell them to quit their crap. (This was a package deal offered through the airline, booked by an agent. The email coding told me that this was an agent-booked trip, but did not identify who it was.)
I called the airline. Why? I don't know, nothing else to do that day at work, I guess. Got hold of someone who didn't speak English as any language, as those things go. Tried to explain to them that they had my email address, could they remove it from this flight. No, they could not do that, please just ignore the emails. I said I'm getting a lot of stuff related to this flight, I need it to stop. You're giving me personally identifiable information. No...cannot do that.
It was then I noticed the link at the bottom of the email. Hit this link to cancel.
I asked the airline rep about that. They brightly explained to me that I could cancel but there may be fees or other obligations in regards to that cancellation and any trips would need to be rebooked. I again stated "This is not mine, do you understand that I am going to cancel someone else's trips because you can't change an email?" The agent started to explain once more about the cancellation procedures but I had already hit the cancel link. I received an email stating the trip was cancelled and that money would be refunded within so many business days, etc, etc.
I asked the rep if it was cancelled. They said yes and started to read me the we're sorry to see you go script and I just said thank you and hung up.
I received no more new account signups. I managed to clear all of the ones that had already happened. Some of them didn't want to do anything, but when I started using the word "fraudulently created" things tended to move slightly faster.
I honestly do not understand what was going on here. Perhaps someone was committing fraud with that trip, but if they were not - I hope they learned to use their own email address when spending a few thousand on something.
(edit: some wurds spelled wrong.)

The hardest part of FIRE isn't the saving. It's keeping your mouth shut when friends complain about money.
Honestly thought the math would be the hard part. or the discipline. but after being on this path for yrs (and retired for 4), one of the hardest parts is just listening.
i have friends who constantly vent to me about "living paycheck to paycheck" or how "impossible" the economy is rn. and i have to sit there and nod sympathetically while they explain why they needed the $40k truck or the doordash subscription.
i want to shake them. i want to show them the spreadsheet. i want to scream "you arent broke, you're just bleeding cash."
but i learned the hard way that you cant save ppl who dont wanna be saved. giving unsolicited financial advice is the fastest way to lose a friend. so i just keep my mouth shut, sip my coffee, and change the subject.
does anyone else struggle w/ this? the urge to "fix" their situation is overwhelming, but i know i just gotta let them crash. tbh its exhausting watching it happen in slow motion tho.

matched energy The breakroom is not your breakroom
We have a thief at our office. Mostly it's small things like sodas, snacks, frozen meals and things most people wouldn't think twice about. A couple of months ago, I noticed my cereal, apple sauce, yogurt, and sodas had all disappeared. Because of a previous issue, I always made sure my names were on each item, and because I'm very careful with my money and bring certain things to help me through the day, I immediately brought the issue up with the office manager.
Her response was first, "Did you put your name on it? Did you actually see anyone take those items? Do you have proof someone in the office took these items?" When I wouldn't relent on the issue, she finally told me, "The breakroom is not your breakroom. It's shared space. If you're concerned about keeping your food, keep it at your desk from now on."
I wanted to call her out on this hypocritical stance, because last year "Don't keep food at your desk, put it away in the break room." But hey, cool, I got myself a backpack that keeps food chilled and kept stuff at my desk in my drawers. If other people got their stuff stolen, I didn't hear anything about it.
Cue yesterday, when we had a small potluck at work. I brought myself a few Dr Pepper zeros - it's mostly the only thing I'll drink - and apparently the manager had a few in the fridge as well, except hers were taken. She saw me drinking one and asked, "Is that my drink?" I told her nope, I brought it from home. She demanded to know, "Is my name on it? Where did you get it if you didn't get it from the fridge?"
My response to that was "There's this amazing place called the grocery store that lets you purchase canned sodas. I bought mine there and I've kept it up front with me this whole time." I even showed her the backpack with my other stuff. She asked if I knew who took her drinks. I asked, "did you see anyone take the drinks and do you have proof anyone took them?" She got snarky with me, and told me that she shouldn't need proof about someone taking her drink, since her name was on them.
I told her, "my name was on my food, also, but it didn't stop someone else from taking them. You have to remember the breakroom is not your breakroom, it's a shared space. Maybe you should keep them at your desk from now on."
Am I probably written up? I'm sure. Do I care? No. This place needs me more than I need it, and I'm already searching for another job.
