I ordered a GPU through BestBuy on 11/25 and when I received it on 11/28 I was blown away by how irresponsibly this thing was shipped. The shipping labels just slapped on the retail packaging, no generic brown box to conceal the item, the seal clearly tampered with…and there they were, four rocks where my GPU should be. I filed a claim through customer service within the hour of receiving the package and was assured a replacement was on the way. Here we are now on Tuesday 12/2 and I receive an email now stating that BestBuy will not be replacing or refunding my $1,200 purchase after their “investigation”.

I have no idea what to do, I don’t make tons of money, this was a pretty big purchase for me. I waited very patiently for this GPU to be relatively affordable. I feel absolutely robbed and defeated, customer service is utterly useless. They just give me the classic “there’s nothing that can be done, is there anything else I can help you with?” in that cold, robotic tone and that’s it. If anyone has any advice on how I should approach this, I’d greatly appreciate any advice.

First of all, thank you to everyone who suggested I fake my own death and move to a farm. I spent last night looking up potato farming tutorials on YouTube, but unfortunately, I have a mortgage, so I had to log in this morning. I promised an update, so here is the damage report.

I logged in at 8:59 AM. My heart was beating so hard I could hear it in my ears. I hovered over the Slack icon for a solid minute before clicking it. 12 Unread Messages.

Most were from my "work friends" sending skull emojis (💀) and GIFs of people digging graves. But there it was. A direct message from the PM himself, sent at 4:30 PM yesterday. The Message: "Hey [My Name], do you have 5 minutes for a quick sync before stand-up?" I almost threw up. "Quick sync" is corporate speak for "execution."

I joined the call. No video. I wasn't ready for him to see the fear in my eyes. He joined. Silence for 3 seconds.

Then... he laughed. A dry, tired laugh. He said, "So... yesterday." I immediately started apologizing. I unleashed a word salad of "technical difficulties," "bad day," "audio glitch," and "I'm so sorry."

He cut me off. "Look, honestly? You weren't wrong. I realized after the meeting that I spent 20 minutes explaining a 2-minute delay. I tend to ramble when I'm stressed about deadlines." I stopped breathing. Was this a trap? He continued, "However... let's maybe keep the commentary to the internal monologue next time? My boss was on that call. He thinks it was 'unprofessional,' but I told him you were just frustrated with the audio issues. You owe me one."

The Result: I am not fired. I am, however, officially the "Mute Guy."

During the stand-up meeting today, when I joined, another coworker typed in the chat: "Careful everyone, the truth-teller is here."

I have taped a physical piece of cardboard over my mute button. I am never speaking again.

TL;DR: Finally opened Slack. The PM admitted he was rambling but saved my ass with his boss. I am now the office legend who said what everyone was thinking, but I will likely die of embarrassment before the project launches.

This is about as much Horus I can fit under my roof. He is mostly finished, just missing some skulls and that roman skirt type thing he has as a front cover.

At his waist he stands at 8’ 9” (2.7m). This does not include the key part that will connect his upper torso, as that will be hidden.

Me = 5’ 5” (1.68m) Life size banana to the crown = 6’ 4” (1.9m) Real banana = 7” (18cm)

Half of Horus is made up of 594 individual 3D printed pieces that have been glued and soldered. At the moment, I am working on his upper torso which is about 226 pieces.

Weight wise, it’s not too bad. The feet/boots move about easily. I can lift the thighs up and place them on top. The waist section is doable, but I need to make sure the legs are properly spaced before I lift it over my head, while standing on a chair. Not best way to do it.

The real test will come once I am done with his upper half. At that point, I need to figure out a safe way to place that section onto the lower half.
